The story of Gabotris was not yet finished, for just as Chu Ci quietly listened to Gabotris recount his past, the warning bells rang out.
Giant Invasion
"Here they come again." Gabotris stopped reminiscing, the weariness in the corners of his eyes deepening. "Shuk, let's go." Gabotris murmured the dragon's nickname, and Su瑞kan roared loudly, the sound echoing throughout the entire capital. The roof, crafted by dwarven engineering, slowly opened under the control of over a hundred guards, allowing sunlight to pour into the dark palace and illuminate the ultimate black dragon.
The massive dragon's body, over three hundred meters long, coiled within the spacious palace. Two wings, each over two hundred and fifty meters, enveloped Gabotris. The black, hard scales, larger than a person, were covered in scars from sword and axe wounds, exuding a strong scent of battle and smoke. Its limbs were as thick as the small dragon Vila, and the dragon's claws scraped against the bronze floor, creating deep grooves.
As Gabotris leaped onto the dragon's back, Chu Ci looked up, gazing at the enormous black dragon. Unlike other dragons Chu Ci had seen, this one was ugly but imposing. A scar ran from the top of its horn, through its left eye, and down to its upper jaw, where a large, sharp dragon tooth was missing. It was hard to imagine how fierce the battle must have been to cause such a severe injury.
The fate of the dragon tooth was easy to understand. On the dragon saddle, adorned with weapons, hung a frost-white dragon tooth spear, nearly two zhang long, symbolizing its indomitable spirit, ready to continue fighting even after being separated from its body.
"Go, find Eragon and tell him to leave Alagaria." Su瑞kan had no dragon armor, and Gabotris did not wear knight armor, perhaps because of their immense power or because it was ineffective against the giants. For the first time, the man hesitated, then chose what a guilty father should do.
The palace was narrow, and Su瑞kan could not spread his wings, but he was used to it. Dragon language magic rumbled in his throat, and in the next second, Chu Ci almost thought his eyes were deceiving him. Su瑞kan flashed into the sky, his wings stretching out, as if blocking out the sun.
"This is the ultimate speed," Chu Ci's eyes widened, as if he had glimpsed a deeper truth.
However, a bitter smile appeared on his lips, and he shook his head. "You're just setting yourself up, aren't you?"
Vila, Chu Ci called out to his dragon mentally.
In a desolate village, the sky was growing darker. This was to the south of the capital, where the Frost Giants had ravaged the land.
The civilians had long since evacuated, leaving only an elite force of wolf riders stationed here. Each rider, over two meters tall, was clad in spiked armor and wielded a bone-chopping axe with a spiked chain. In the extremely cold southern region, thick steam billowed from their mouths and noses, making them seem like giant, breathing beasts.
Before them stood the even more massive ultimate black dragon, Su瑞kan. Gabotris stood on the wide dragon's back, brandishing a sword symbolizing royal authority, shouting encouragement to his subordinates.
The dragon, over three hundred meters long, and the magic wolves, nearly five meters tall, could only be described as brutal. If the magic wolf riders had been present at the Battle of Varden, the forests of the Beir Mountains would have been stripped bare long ago.
Chu Ci observed from a distance using a magic eagle, his eyes wide with amazement at the mobilization.
Gabotris's words were typical, about defending their homeland or upholding their honor. The magic eagle automatically filtered out the clichés, skipping over three thousand characters. With a deafening dragon roar from Su瑞kan, the war began.
This was not a straightforward battle. Although the Frost Giants lived in tribes, most of those under eighty meters tall were mindless, moving only under the guidance of more powerful giants toward food. If the food was insufficient, they would disperse and wander, invading Alagaria. When they encountered villages or towns, they would release a biological hormone to summon their companions for a feast.
Therefore, the three thousand magic wolf riders were divided into thirty small teams, spreading out along the vast border to intercept and hunt small groups of Frost Giants. Their tactics were highly intelligent. First, an equal number of magic wolf riders would lure the Frost Giants to disperse. Then, four riders would flank the giants from both sides, throwing their axes with chains to attack the giants' limbs. Once the axes were embedded, the riders would gallop in all directions, pulling the giants down. At this point, the luring riders could turn back and use their sharp axes to decapitate the giants.
This method was effective against Frost Giants under fifty meters tall, but for those between fifty and eighty meters, a different approach was needed. The riders would use the speed of the magic wolves to slash at the giants' ankles and tendons, causing them to bleed out when they fell.
These mature tactics were the result of centuries of experience by the magic wolf riders, but the Frost Giants were not easy opponents. Occasionally, a rider would be caught by a Frost Giant and bitten in half, their organs and blood spilling out.
But these were just minor skirmishes on the battlefield. The main event always involved the chief or the villain. The chief, nearly two hundred meters tall, was the only Frost Giant Chu Ci had seen wielding a weapon. His blue, frost-covered skin was muscular and powerful, gripping a stone club as large as a mountain, with trees still attached. Behind the chief, a patch of ugly, exposed earth revealed that he indeed held a mountain.
Such a massive creature, even without any mystical energy, could probably destroy everything with sheer brute force. Yes, it definitely could. Gabotris faced this brutal, violent giant, and Su瑞kan's three-hundred-meter body seemed slender in comparison.
Gabotris had faced this giant countless times, a stubborn and tough opponent. Even the most powerful dragon language magic could not penetrate the seven to eight-meter-thick layer of frost covering the giant's skin. The only option was to see who had sharper claws, more durable weapons, and greater endurance.
"Unbreakable," Gabotris cast a dragon lineage spell on himself and his dragon, combining it with Su瑞kan's dragon language magic, transforming him into a melee dragon.
The two massive beings collided, the resulting windstorm uprooting trees and flowers within a five-kilometer radius. Su瑞kan bared its fangs, biting into the giant's neck, while Gabotris gathered a nearly solid spear of light on his lance, aiming for the giant's wide-open eyes.
The giant chief, of course, would not let Gabotris attack unimpeded. Kneeling, he grabbed Su瑞kan's hind leg with one hand and raised the mountain with the other, smashing it into Su瑞kan's wing roots, attempting to trade blows.
Gabotris would not agree to such a costly exchange. Losing flight capability would halve Su瑞kan's combat power. The spear of light detached from the lance, flying toward the giant's eyes, while Gabotris leaped from the dragon saddle, running to Su瑞kan's back to intercept the mountain.
This is insane.
Chu Ci watched in disbelief as the man, less than two meters tall, attempted to block a mountain with a spear.
But the man succeeded.
The mountain struck Gabotris, but the solid rocks shattered like tofu on Su瑞kan's back, the force of the giant's blow causing Su瑞kan to roar in pain and release the giant's neck. After separating, Gabotris shook off the debris on Su瑞kan's back, revealing his unharmed steel-like body.
"Beta, show me all your tricks at once," Gabotris shouted, his voice as loud as the giant chief, known as the Mighty Hercules in ancient language.
"Gabotris, today is your end," the giant chief Beta spoke for the first time, his voice deep like a thunderclap in the clouds.
"Have you ever killed me in a hundred years of纠缠?" Gabotris scoffed at his old enemy's words. The giant's invasions of Alagaria were not new, and he had been repelled many times. No matter how many boasts he made, they were meaningless.
"Is that so?" Beta put down the mountain, taking two steps to the spot Chu Ci thought was the mountain's origin, and pressed his hand into the ground.
Gabotris's face changed dramatically. This was the first time the savage giant had put down his favorite weapon.
In the next moment, Beta's right arm bulged with muscles, pulling upward as if a similarly massive creature was resisting from underground.
"Shuk, attack!" A deep chill rose in Gabotris's heart. Without waiting for Beta to complete his action, he directed Su瑞kan to charge at the old enemy. Su瑞kan pounced on Beta, but this time, its fangs did not penetrate the giant's tendons and bones. Instead, it tore a large chunk of flesh from his back, and its claws reached in to pull at Beta's bones.
"Roar~~~" "Roar~~~" Beta ignored Su瑞kan's attacks, the intense pain only fueling his rage. The veins in his right arm burst, and he finally pulled out what he wanted from the ground. It was as if a subterranean dragon had been struggling, and the earth exploded, creating a deep, long, and wide canyon. Beta extracted a high-grade iron ore vein, resembling a grayish-black wolf club, with jagged, tumor-like protrusions.
"Shuk, fly!" Gabotris's face changed, and he quickly ordered Su瑞kan to retreat from close combat.
"Too late," Beta bared his fangs, his eyes bloodshot, and swung the iron ore club, smashing it into Su瑞kan's abdomen as it tried to take off.
