While defending, Kirk stood beside Mori. Mori glanced at the dispirited rookies and smiled, "I can't tell, you idiot newbie, you're actually the smartest one in this bunch of shitheads."
Kirk also smiled, "The difference is that I have a good teacher, and they don't."
Mori's face darkened, "I don't have any disciples, don't try to flatter me with sweet talk..."
"You saved my life and taught me a lot," Kirk said seriously. "I think you are a good teacher. Without you, I wouldn't be alive now."
Mori ignored him and just focused on checking his weapons. In the distance, three groups of zombies had merged, forming a massive, dark horde approaching the camp.
"Later, you need to conserve your bullets. I want you to attack these bastards with your bare hands," Mori suddenly said.
"Boss, are you kidding me?" Kirk was very surprised.
"I want you to listen carefully to what I'm about to say. I'll only say it once, and it will determine whether you live or die, whether you get stronger or rot. Do you understand?"
Mori's hoarse voice slowly spoke. The anger and determination in his words made Kirk wonder what this man had experienced in the past to become so cynical.
"Believe me, you can't escape fate. If you don't want to be eaten to the bone, you have to be faster, fiercer, and tougher than they are. Do you understand?"
Damn, it's not the Olympics, do I really need to be faster, stronger, and higher? Killing zombies with a gun is killing too, right? Kirk thought to himself. Mori looked at his glasses and continued, "You need to kill them more with your hands! This is the only advice I can give you! Face them! Chop their heads with a knife! Crush their hearts with your hands! Get your delicate face covered in blood! Do you hear me?"
Kirk was stunned. But he also knew that once Mori made a decision, it was hard to change. So he took out a dagger without expression.
Mori threw a rusty iron rod in front of Kirk and stared at his glasses, "Fight like a man! Stick this iron rod into their brains!"
Kirk picked up the iron rod and accepted it.
The battle soon began.
This was the largest-scale battle the rookies had faced since arriving in this scenario. It was Kirk's first time engaging in hand-to-hand combat with zombies. His current strength was 7 points, and he stood on the roof of a reinforced bus, looking down and viciously stabbing the iron rod into the zombies' heads, stirring them into a pulp, and pulling it out. He then found the next unlucky one and stabbed again.
He repeated this process. At first, he was afraid to get close to the zombies, but he soon realized that they could only jump onto the roof and had no other skills. His courage grew, and he became more enthusiastic about the killing. Mori used the edge of his right hand to slice open the zombies' heads, one by one. Kirk watched Mori decapitate the zombies and thought he looked like the melon vendor at the school gate, who drove a large cart, held a big knife in his left hand, a watermelon in his right, and shouted, "Sweet melons, not sweet, no money!" He would even curse Kirk loudly when he was in a good mood.
"Idiot! Aim carefully and use your strength! Don't waste energy, conserve your strength!"
"Damn ass! Lower your damn stinky ass, get closer to them, and maximize your power!"
Kirk cursed inwardly but followed Mori's instructions meticulously, killing until the zombies in front of the car piled up. The zombies started climbing onto the roof.
"Watch this, this is a real man's fight! Be nice to them, ha ha." Mori split a zombie's head with one stroke, kicked another off the car, and then shot a third in the head, all in one fluid motion, like a dance. It was hard to believe that this 200-pound man could be so agile.
Kirk also got into the fight, roaring and engaging the zombies face-to-face. The zombies were not very agile, which was their fatal weakness. Following Mori's advice, Kirk would taunt them, wait for them to pounce, and then dodge. The zombies' joints were stiff, and they would lose control, becoming stiff. At this moment, Kirk would stab them with his dagger or iron rod, pull it out, and the zombie would fall to the ground.
However, the zombies kept coming, and the space on the roof became smaller. It was inevitable to enter the attack range of other zombies while dodging. Kirk took several hits, his thigh was scratched, and blood flowed out. The zombies, stimulated by the blood, became even more frenzied. Kirk was furious and gritted his teeth, determined to keep fighting.
He didn't want to be a coward, and he didn't want to die pointlessly in this damn zombie horde!
If you want me to die, you die first!
"Moron! Save your strength for your feet and hands, stop yelling! Shut up!" Mori shouted.
Kirk had been fighting for half an hour and was already very tired. The bodies of the contractors were data-driven, but there was still a concept of fatigue, which was related to stamina. Kirk could hold out this long thanks to the hidden mission reward, which increased his stamina to 7 points, better than that of an average strong man.
Now, the zombies were increasing in number. The situation was tense on all fronts. Rick ordered the rookies to conserve their bullets and focus on hand-to-hand combat. Even so, the rookies were reluctant to engage in close combat with the zombies. The blonds had already used up all their bullets. Although they had achieved some results, they were now out of ammunition. Did they really have to fight the zombies like Kirk, the moron? They certainly wouldn't do that, and they didn't dare to, so they just waited there.
Kirk suddenly realized that in hand-to-hand combat, the zombies gave 3 survival points, not the 2 points for using firearms. After checking, the space provided an answer: "The acquisition of survival points is directly related to the difficulty of killing the enemy. HANDTOHAND, as the most difficult and risky method, is highly valued by the space, thus offering higher rewards."
This further solidified his determination to follow Mori and focus on close combat.
An hour passed, and everyone, including the NPCs, was exhausted. But then, the rookies let out a series of screams!
The most terrifying riot police zombies appeared, staggering towards the car defenses.
"Open fire!" Rick no longer held back; if he did, it might be too late.
Dozens of bullets hit the riot police's helmets, but after a shower of sparks, they continued to stagger forward.
"Their armor is too strong; we can't hit their heads!" Officer Sean shouted.
"We can only wait for them to get close and fight them in close combat. They still have guns and bullets," the blonde gunner Andalina said.
So, everyone concentrated their fire on the zombies around the riot police, leaving the riot police to charge onto the roof.
Then, the brutal close combat began.
Mori casually lifted the visor of a riot helmet, stabbed a knife into the zombie's hollow, white eyes, and then put the visor back on.
"Good boy, Dad will put it on for you, it's time to go to school!"
Then he kicked the zombie off the roof.
He then picked up another helmet that had fallen off a zombie, but the stench almost made him vomit. He cursed and threw the helmet at a zombie's head.
Kirk followed suit, smashing a large brick onto a police helmet, stunning the zombie, and then stabbing a sharp dagger into its skull from the chin.
The police zombie fell, and Kirk discovered that it was quite valuable, as the space notified him of a 10-point survival value reward.
Seeing how valuable these were, Kirk's eyes lit up, and he focused on killing the police zombies, smashing bricks and stabbing with his dagger. It was a rare opportunity to kill riot police, and it felt great.
The poor riot police were equipped with handguns, but they didn't know how to use them; otherwise, many of the contractors would have been killed.
As the fight continued, after kicking a riot police zombie off the roof, Kirk saw a light blue key drop. In the rookie trial, Kirk had killed many zombies, but the drop rate for keys was very low, and equipment drops were rare. It seemed that the space valued equipment highly, and this time, it was probably because he had killed a highly specialized and heavily armored riot police zombie that he got the light blue key. He used the key, and usually, if it was a numerical reward like survival points, it would be directly displayed with a golden number. This time, a light blue vortex appeared, indicating that equipment was about to drop. According to the prompt, Kirk reached into the vortex, feeling warm and smooth, like a baby in the amniotic fluid. Suddenly, he grabbed something and pulled it out—it was indeed a piece of equipment!
【Riot Police Special Bulletproof Vest】
【Type】: 【Bulletproof Vest / Half Armor】
【Level】: 【Light Blue】
【Equipment】: Upper Body
【Weight】: 2600 grams
【Material】: Bulletproof Special Steel
【Effect】: Reduce physical damage by 10%, reduce bullet and firearm damage by 50%, and immunize against fatal damage in the protected area.
This was exactly what Kirk needed, so he put it on without hesitation.
Other rooftops were in big trouble, especially where the rookies were concentrated. Everyone was afraid to fight the police zombies face-to-face, and since they were immune to bullets, the situation was chaotic. It often took several people to kill one zombie.
Kirk saw the Japanese boy, Senranmaru, wielding a large katana, chopping off the zombies' heads, which rolled around.
"This Japanese fag is not bad. His moves are precise, and he has a clear strategy, like he's trained in kendo," Kirk thought.
Suddenly, a zombie fell off the roof, causing a commotion below. Most of the able-bodied were on the defense line, and the people below were mostly the elderly, women, and children. Kirk jumped down, stabbed the zombie in the head, and sent it to the afterlife. Another zombie fell, landing on Kirk's back, and he could feel the zombie's rotten saliva dripping on his neck.
"Damn! Don't touch me! I don't want to be a backmount!" Kirk shouted, shaking, but the zombie was too fast and bit down, tearing a large chunk of flesh from his left shoulder and swallowing it.
"Ah!" Kirk almost fainted from the pain.
Then he heard a "bang," and the zombie's head exploded. Kirk fell to the ground.
Dazed, Kirk heard the cold voice of the space:
"Contractor 4444, you have been attacked by a zombie, causing 34 points of bite damage.
The zombie's attack has caused a [Bleeding] effect, dealing 5 points of damage per second for 5 seconds.
The zombie's attack has caused a [Tearing] effect, severely damaging your left arm, rendering it disabled.
Your strength has passed the test, and you have not suffered crushing damage from this attack.
You have been physically attacked by a zombie and need to undergo an infection check.
Your stamina is 7 points, and your willpower is 2 points. Infection check in progress...
Infection check passed, you have been infected with an unknown zombie virus...
Due to the protection of the space's laws, the zombie virus will not take effect within 7 days."
