Chapter 4

After receiving the three gifts, Chen Yihan felt his brain buzz with confusion once again.

"Beep..."

"You have learned the language of this mission scenario."

"Beep..."

"This mission is a single-player scenario with a storyline. Due to the difficulty level being S, the system will issue 10 main tasks. Completing at least 5 of the system-issued main tasks is required to pass."

"Each additional main task completed will reward 500 points. Each main task not completed will deduct 500 points. Those with insufficient points will be eliminated."

"Beep..."

"Main Task 1: Go to the research institute of the garrison on the island and investigate the passage to other dimensions. Task completion: Reward 500 points. Task failure: Deduct 500 points. Those with insufficient points will be eliminated."

"Do you accept the task?"

Chen Yihan refused without hesitation. This task sounded simple, but just getting to the garrison on the island was already very difficult, let alone sneaking into the research institute, which would mean going against the entire garrison.

If his agility was high enough and he had some kind of invisibility item, he might give it a try. But with his current abilities, it was better to pass.

Most importantly, there was the part about investigating the passage to other dimensions... This was the most dangerous part.

"Contractor 777 has abandoned Main Task 1. Remaining main tasks: 9. Completed tasks: 0. Abandoned tasks: 1. Completed main tasks: 0. Failed main tasks: 0."

"The next main task will be issued at an appropriate time."

A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, instantly illuminating the island. Immediately after, a thunderclap echoed in the sky, and a fierce wind howled, as if trying to uproot the entire island.

Chen Yihan lost his balance and was blown into the roadside forest by the strong wind. A small tree tilted, and finally crashed down not far from Chen Yihan.

"Damn!" Chen Yihan had planned to hide in the forest, but this sudden tree made him abandon the idea. He then braced himself and walked back to the road.

Taking advantage of the current lack of danger, he decided to head to the supermarket as quickly as possible. This was Chen Yihan's plan and the most urgent task.

Once he reached the supermarket, he could wait for the main characters and supporting characters of this mission scenario. This was why he firmly rejected the first main task.

In a supermarket, with all the main and supporting characters present, it wouldn't be hard to complete 5 main tasks.

The problem now was that the road was two-way. Which direction should he go to reach the supermarket? If he chose wrong, it would be a waste of time.

In the end, Chen Yihan decided to leave it to fate and made a sacred choice: he threw his shoe.

Looking at the direction the shoe pointed, Chen Yihan poured out the water inside, put it on, and bravely moved forward against the wind.

After about half an hour, he saw a white building that looked like a warehouse. Chen Yihan felt more confident. According to the movie, if he followed this white building for a while, he would reach his destination.

What was this white building for? If it was a warehouse, should he go inside to take shelter from the rain and wait until morning before heading to the supermarket?

But Chen Yihan quickly dismissed this idea. Caution first, curiosity kills the cat.

In the movie, the drive to the supermarket only took a few minutes, but Chen Yihan, braving the storm, took over half an hour to reach it.

The supermarket was pitch black, and the parking lot was empty. However, he felt relatively safe in this area and walked to the side of the supermarket where the eaves could shelter him from the rain.

Chen Yihan wiped his face, sat down, and took off his shoes to pour out the rainwater. He then leaned against the wall next to a phone booth and carefully observed the world.

He was a pure homebody who had never left his city, let alone the province. He never imagined he would end up outside the solar system. Now, he was in a mission world, and it was a place he was relatively familiar with: the United States.

Was all this a dream?

He hoped it was...

In a daze, Chen Yihan actually fell asleep...

"Hello, Hello!"

Chen Yihan felt someone patting him and suddenly opened his eyes.

"Sorry, I need to make a call. Could you...?"

Chen Yihan looked at the man speaking to him and was extremely excited. This was none other than the movie's main character, David Drayton!

Chen Yihan didn't know which was the first name and which was the last name, as he found foreign names confusing and had never studied them. To him, the names of movie characters were just labels. He knew this man was David Drayton, the main character of the movie and an important figure in this mission.

Chen Yihan mumbled a few "sorrys" and got up to let the man use the phone booth.

David Drayton picked up the receiver, frowned, and pressed the hang-up button, then irritably placed the receiver back. He smiled at Chen Yihan and walked into the supermarket.

Chen Yihan didn't hear the expected task notification until David Drayton disappeared from his sight.

Strange, why wasn't the main task issued? Could it be that David Drayton was no longer a key figure in this mission world?

Chen Yihan felt uneasy. His confidence came from his familiarity with these mission worlds. If the mission world only used the movies as a background and the events were randomly altered, his advantage would be lost.

Chen Yihan became increasingly anxious and tidied his clothes before entering the supermarket.

When a yellow-skinned Asian man entered the supermarket, almost everyone glanced at him, but it was just a quick look.

Chen Yihan wandered around the supermarket, watching the soldiers and the saleswoman, Sally, flirt. He thought to himself, "What a waste of time, you'll soon be in heaven."

Chen Yihan walked straight to the corner of the supermarket, observing the busy crowd with a cold eye. He was deep in thought, wondering if the main tasks issued by the system were really very different from the original movie. But then he realized that everything happening here was the same as in the movie.

Just as Chen Yihan was lost in thought, two police cars with sirens wailing and a fire truck sped past outside the supermarket.

Everyone in the supermarket was in a panic, crowding around the windows, discussing the scene.

Then, a police car quickly arrived outside the supermarket. A police officer got out and entered the supermarket, speaking in a low voice to the three soldiers who had entered earlier.

Even though Chen Yihan was far from them, he could tell from their expressions that they were being told to return to their posts and that their leave was canceled, just like in the movie.

As the police officer turned to leave the supermarket, the air-raid siren suddenly blared, causing everyone to look confused and gather at the front of the supermarket, trying to see what was happening outside.

Chen Yihan also slowly moved toward the front of the supermarket.

At that moment, an old man ran in from a distance, looking panicked and frequently looking back as if something dangerous was chasing him.

When he got closer, the people in the supermarket finally saw a scene that made their hearts tremble.

The old man's light blue shirt was stained with blood, and his face was covered in blood.

"Oh my God!!" The saleswoman, Sally, covered her mouth in shock and took a few steps back, showing her fear.

Everyone in the supermarket was stunned, watching the old man run closer.

As the old man ran into the supermarket, he waved his arms and shouted, "There's something in the fog!!! The fog took John Lee!!!"

"Dan, take a breath and speak slowly." When people were in a panic, a short, fat, four-eyed saleswoman walked up to the old man, holding his shoulder to calm him down.

The old man finally stopped shouting in panic but still said fearfully, "The fog took John Lee, I heard it, I heard his scream!!!"

Then, as if remembering something, he turned and waved his hands, shouting, "Close the door, close the door quickly!!!"

Everyone rushed to the door, trying to see what kind of monster was outside.

"Don't go out!!! Don't go out!!! There are monsters in the fog!!!"

"Who cares, I'm going out, I'm leaving this place!!!"

A middle-aged man, unable to bear the oppressive atmosphere, pushed open the door and ran out.

"Don't go!!! Don't go out!!!"

Despite the old man's warnings, the middle-aged man ran out of the supermarket and toward his car.

As the supermarket door was pushed open, thick fog quickly enveloped the island.

Chen Yihan looked at the people in the supermarket, who were all staring at the middle-aged man in shock.

The fog spread quickly. Just as the middle-aged man, driven by fear, was trying to open his car door, the fog enveloped him. Everyone strained their eyes, but all they saw was a wall of fog, and the middle-aged man was nowhere to be seen.

Just as everyone was staring at the overwhelming fog, a piercing scream pierced their ears.

The screams made everyone shudder. Those who had been standing at the supermarket door rushed back inside, and the glass door was quickly locked.

Everyone was enveloped in fear, but Chen Yihan smiled.

Because as the fog enveloped the island, he heard the familiar "beep" in his ear.

The main task he had been waiting for was finally issued.
