"Zzz—"
In the dimly lit room, a sound like fresh meat sizzling in a pan could be heard. Both Take's wrist and Nino's severed finger were smoking, and despite their profuse sweating, neither of them made a sound, clearly showing their exceptional endurance.
Qiangwo, who had just finished bandaging their wounds, approached and punched both of them, saying, "Thanks, from now on, you two are my life-and-death brothers."
Take's lecherous face remained as gloomy as ever, and he coldly replied, "Don't thank me. If it weren't for Boss Cesong saying we were short on manpower, I wouldn't have gone to save you."
Qiangwo was taken aback but said indifferently, "In any case, you and Monkey saved my life."
"Don't call me Monkey!" Nino was very unhappy, raising his hand with a missing finger, "I could hit a bullseye with both hands before. Now, how am I supposed to do it? The only good news is... after Black and that annoying white bitch are gone, we can split more money."
Lavender, who had been silent, sneered, "Let's deal with that cop first. With him around, if we run into him during our operation, things will get extremely bad! Boss, don't you think so?"
Cesong, stirring a bowl of vegetable salad, grunted, "Feng is right, but we don't have the time or manpower to deal with that cop!" He nodded at Take and Nino, clearly indicating that they were injured and couldn't use guns for at least a day or two.
Lavender nodded silently, "Indeed, if there are only three of us, even with a surprise attack using firearms, we can't guarantee we'll kill that cop!"
Cesong said, "It's even worse than that. According to your descriptions, that cop's shooting skills are bizarre. Even if we're three against one, he might still take one of us down. Then, with our reduced manpower, how can we make money? So, let's avoid that cop for now!"
"But what if we run into him during the operation?" Qiangwo couldn't help but show a hint of fear when mentioning Ferren.
Cesong glanced at Qiangwo, "The Chinese have an old saying, 'When the boat reaches the bridge, it will naturally straighten.' Haven't you heard it?" He placed the salad bowl on the coffee table, "Come, we only have cabbage and carrots tonight, so let's make do!"
Nino and the others knew that with the entire city's police force on high alert, they, with their distinctive appearances and injuries, couldn't possibly go out on the streets.
So, without a word, they wiped their hands and started wolfing down the salad. Cesong ate a couple of pieces but mostly watched Nino and the others, especially when they ate the carrots, which he observed with particular intensity.
In the Serious Crime Unit office.
Ferren sat slumped, listening to Bombshell's nagging for a while before standing up and heading for the door.
"Hey, where are you going?" Xie Yixin asked.
"Home to sleep!"
Xie Yixin was taken aback, "But we're still on duty!"
"Can't I take a leave?" Ferren had just finished speaking when Chen Zejun arrived.
"Sir!" "Sir!" Ferren and Bombshell saluted in unison.
"You two go back and rest, I'll take the shift tonight!"
"Ah?" Xie Yixin was surprised, "Isn't that inappropriate?"
Chen Zejun put on a stern face, "Who's the boss here? Follow the order!"
"Yes, Sir!" Ferren and Xie Yixin said in unison.
In the garage, Bombshell's eyes twinkled, and she suggested, "It's already six, why don't we grab a bite before heading back?"
"I don't think so. What I need most right now is to take a bath with pomelo leaves to wash away the tension from the gunfight, then have a good sleep," Ferren smiled faintly, declining the offer.
Seeing Ferren's half-smiling, half-serious expression, Xie Yixin was so annoyed that her teeth ached, "Ferren, the line of people waiting to treat me to a meal could stretch from Central to Causeway Bay. Don't be ungrateful!"
As she spoke, Bombshell raised her chin slightly, looking up with a haughty expression, refusing to look at Ferren.
It had to be said that although it was just a simple light-colored OL outfit, it looked particularly good on Xie Yixin, whose curvaceous figure was eye-catching. Describing her as slender, graceful, and elegant was entirely fitting. Ferren almost lost himself in her beauty, unable to look away.
He usually didn't find her that attractive in the office. Ferren shook his head, thinking he must be seeing things or that he was feeling a bit overheated from not sleeping with Sakura and Kousuke for a few days.
"So, have you decided where to eat? You need to give me an answer," Xie Yixin asked again.
Ferren smiled, "Sure, let's go to Central..."
"Hold it!" Xie Yixin suddenly interrupted, "I'm not as rich as you, I can't afford fancy restaurants."
"You're not rich?" Ferren rolled his eyes, feeling speechless, "Didn't the 3T bonus just get transferred to you?"
"That's my dowry for the future, how can I touch it casually?" Xie Yixin's excuse was unbeatable, "How about this, I'll take you to a great place to eat, something you've never had before." Without waiting for Ferren's agreement, she got into the passenger seat of the Ferrari.
Ferren had no choice but to start the car and drive out of the police station.
Twenty minutes later, the Ferrari not only crossed the sea but also entered Yau Ma Tei, finally stopping at the entrance of Temple Street Night Market.
"Is this where you're taking me to eat?" Ferren looked disappointed, "If I had known, I wouldn't have listened to you."
"But we're already here!" Xie Yixin said excitedly, "Let's get out!"
Temple Street, also known as Men's Street, is filled with small stalls selling cheap clothing, a favorite spot for the lower class of Hong Kong and Kowloon to shop. At night, the entertainment is abundant, with singers, storytellers, and fortune-tellers attracting many enthusiasts. Various street vendors, from fried oyster pancakes to steamed seafood, from snake soup to fish balls, can be found here, making it one of the most diverse and bustling areas in West Kowloon.
Since they were already there, they found a relatively safe parking spot and walked into Temple Street.
As for "carrying," Xie Yixin had initially wanted to take the lead, but after a few attempts, she was caught by Ferren. Feeling awkward, she was surprised when Ferren, with a mischievous idea, took her hand, making her blush.
Fortunately, as they walked into Temple Street, a strong sense of old street culture enveloped them. Amid the bustling crowd, Ferren felt a sense of reality he had never experienced before.
Noticing Ferren's dazed and somewhat flickering gaze, Xie Yixin, whose face had returned to normal, asked cautiously, "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing, just a sudden feeling of nostalgia!" Ferren quickly regained his composure, "By the way, didn't you say you were treating me to a meal?"
"Oh, this way!" Led by Bombshell, Ferren followed her to a small, shabby shop.
They found a clean table by the wall and sat down. Xie Yixin, familiar with the place, ordered the dishes and introduced them, "The signature dish here is seafood fried rice, and the fish balls and fried oysters are also delicious. I used to come here a few times when I was a patrol officer in West Kowloon, but I haven't been back since I was transferred to the police academy."
Ferren sneered, "So, treating me to a meal is just an excuse, and you're really here to satisfy your own appetite, making me pay the bill!"
Xie Yixin denied it outright, "No, I said I'm treating you!" Unfortunately, the waiter seemed to be new, serving tea and taking their order without any special greeting.
When the dishes were served, the owner himself brought them out, seeing Bombshell and smiling warmly, "Hi, it's Officer Xie! What a rare visit! And this is?"
"My colleague, Ferren! Allen, this is Old Wang."
Introduced by Xie Yixin, Ferren had to nod at the owner, "Boss Wang, business is booming!"
"Officer Ferren is also a rare visitor. Enjoy your meal, I'll bring you a couple more dishes!" The owner put down the plates and, without waiting for Ferren's agreement, headed back to the kitchen.
"Let's eat, try this fried oyster first!" Before Ferren could pick up his chopsticks, Bombshell had already placed an oyster on his plate.
Ferren tried it and found it crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, incredibly fresh and delicious. The flour coating was especially good, melting in the mouth, making it a standout among mediocre ingredients.
Enjoying the food, Ferren quickly finished three more oysters, almost leaving none for the ladylike Bombshell. However, their playful competition over the food added a unique charm to the meal.
At this moment, Boss Wang brought a plate of stir-fried beef noodles to the table, "Officer Ferren, this is your first visit, so consider this a complimentary dish from me."
Ferren smiled, "I appreciate the gesture, but I'll still pay for it. Otherwise, the ICAC will invite me for coffee."
"Alright, whatever you say!" Old Wang beamed, bending down slightly and leaning in, "Officer Ferren, it seems someone across the street is watching you and Officer Xie!" He laughed and went back to the kitchen.
Ferren didn't even look across the street, saying to Bombshell, "You eat, I'll go buy a pack of cigarettes!"
Xie Yixin didn't pay much attention at first, but then realized Ferren had never smoked!
"Tsk, you're just making it up to fool me!" Bombshell was very angry, and the food on the table suffered.
Ferren walked a few shops down the street and then glanced across the road, indeed spotting two guys who looked like henchmen pretending to look at passing women.
Ferren threw a hundred-dollar bill on a cigarette stand, picked up the cheapest pack, and said to the vendor, "Give me a lighter, and keep the change."
The vendor quickly handed him the cheapest lighter, grinning widely.
Ferren played with the lighter and walked straight toward the two henchmen. They clearly noticed him, trying to avoid eye contact but not fleeing, clearly knowing the consequences of losing Ferren.
Ferren approached, showed his badge to the two henchmen, and then looked at them with a half-smile.
"What's up, Officer?"
