"… How about I go to your place?" the ancient elf asked tentatively.
"Your place?" Ferren’s face broke into a wicked smile. "I only have one bed at my place. If you’re not afraid of me eating you, I don’t mind at all!"
The ancient black girl clearly didn’t believe it. "You can afford a Ferrari and only have one bed? Who would believe that?"
"Don’t believe it?" Ferren’s smile grew even more peculiar. "Then come to my place and sleep. If you wake up tomorrow and find out I did something to you, don’t blame me!"
The ancient black girl felt uneasy at Ferren’s smile and shouted, "Slow down… If you really don’t want to take me back to Chaiwan, then just drop me off at a nearby minibus stop!"
Ferren asked with a half-smile, "Not going to my place then?"
"Not going!" The ancient elf had clearly made up her mind. "You’re unpredictable, and I’m scared of you."
"OK, OK, but are there still minibus services now?" Ferren said. "Or should I do a good deed and take you back to Chaiwan?"
The ancient elf was skeptical of Ferren’s character. "How kind are you really?"
Ferren laughed. "I’m a police officer, how can I not help citizens?"
Unfortunately, after witnessing Ferren casually take down five illegal racing cars one after another, the ancient elf no longer believed his heart was that good. Of course, this was purely a girl’s intuition.
Following the ancient black girl’s directions, the adrenaline-pumped Ferren quickly arrived at a residential building on New Summer Street in Chaiwan. The building looked impressive from the outside, but inside it was dirty, messy, and poor. The hallway lights were dim, and the walls were covered with small ads for treating X diseases. Most importantly, the entire building had a very unpleasant sour smell.
The black girl, who had been breathing fresh air all day, instinctively covered her nose upon entering the building. Ferren, however, seemed to be quite accustomed to it, not even frowning. "You live here?"
"Uh-huh!" The ancient black girl responded in a low voice. "You don’t have to come up, right?"
Ferren laughed. "You just said you’d offer me a cup of tea?"
The ancient elf had no choice but to take him up to the seventh floor. Unexpectedly, as soon as they reached the seventh-floor entrance, they saw several gangsters splashing red paint on a door and writing "Pay back your debts" on the wall!
Seeing these people, the ancient elf’s body trembled slightly, and she instinctively wanted to run away.
Ferren noticed the black girl’s unease, grabbed her shoulder, and teased, "Oh, the loan sharks are quite diligent, working so late!" His voice was not loud but just enough to attract the gangsters’ attention.
The gangster leader, who was covered in patches, saw the ancient elf in the dim light and immediately shouted, "Damn it, Black Girl, where the hell have you been? We’ve been looking for you!" He strode over and reached out to grab the black girl’s hair.
"Watch your mouth, you can still disappear now!" Ferren scolded.
"Damn it, who do you think you are? Don’t provoke me, get lost!" The patch-covered gangster shot back a series of insults at Ferren.
A wicked smile appeared on Ferren’s lips. He glanced at the ancient elf, who was at a loss, and suddenly kicked out with a front kick. The kick was slightly angled upward, hitting the patch-covered gangster in the chest. The gangster was kicked up more than a meter, did a one-and-a-half somersault in the air, and flew several meters before landing, rolling twice, and colliding with an empty gas canister, lying still.
This kick stunned the gangsters and the ancient black girl. A person of a hundred pounds being kicked away like this seemed like a scene from the movie "Once Upon a Time in China." Most importantly, the patch-covered gangster, who had been fine a moment ago, now had blood spots all over his face and body, as if he had been in a car accident.
The remaining gangsters were now somewhat frightened. The shortest one said, "Brother, let’s talk it out, we’re just here to collect the debt from the Black Girl, it’s only right to pay back debts, isn’t it?"
Ferren, hearing this, looked at the ancient elf, who was also looking at him. She weakly replied, "The medicine at the nursing home wasn’t effective, and most of the special medicine for my grandmother was bought with my own money. I was short on cash the last two months, so I borrowed 30,000 from Brother Feng to get by. I didn’t expect my luck to be even worse this month… Can you help me get through this?"
The "bad luck" the black girl referred to was being recruited by Ferren as an informant, but with the debt collectors right there, she couldn’t say it outright.
Ferren laughed. "It’s just money, I can help you pay it back, but what will you do to repay me?"
The ancient elf tightly pursed her lips. After a moment of hesitation, her gaze became determined. "Old Ferren, as long as you help me pay back the money, I promise my repayment will satisfy you!"
"Specifically?" Ferren pressed.
"Can’t say now!" A hint of shyness flashed in the ancient black girl’s eyes. "Just trust me and help me this once."
Ferren’s gaze became sharp. He stared at the black girl for a few seconds, noticing that her eyes didn’t waver. He then said, "Alright, I’ll help you this once! How much does the Black Girl owe?"
The short gangster was taken aback. "We’re only responsible for the red paint, you need to talk to Brother Feng for the details!"
"OK! Shorty, I’ll give you two choices…" Ferren said calmly. "One, you call that so-called Brother Feng right now. Two, I take all of you down and wait for that so-called Brother Feng to come! You have three seconds to decide, one!"
The short gangster glanced at the unconscious patch-covered gangster on the ground, then looked at his companions. Before Ferren could count to two, he frantically pulled out his phone and called Brother Feng.
Ferren didn’t mind and reminded, "Tell him to bring the loan contract the Black Girl signed." Then he said to the ancient elf, "Go open the door and let me in for a moment!"
The ancient elf, who was in a position to ask for help, naturally followed Ferren’s instructions. She went to the door covered in red paint, took out her keys, and was about to open it when Ferren said, "That one, come lick the red paint clean!"
The gangsters were stunned. The short gangster, who had just made the call, said with a mournful face, "Boss, Brother Feng agreed to come, but how do we lick the red paint?"
Ferren said matter-of-factly, "With your tongue, of course!"
The gangsters, upon hearing this, were about to rebel. The biggest one among them shouted, "Don’t think we’re afraid of you just because you took down the patch-covered guy. Be careful, I’ll find your hideout and burn your house down."
Ferren, hearing this, grinned. "OK, you don’t have to lick it!" He then kicked the big guy in the face with a lightning-fast kick.
After the kick, the big guy’s face not only had a footprint but was also covered in blood, some of which spurted out like a broken water pipe. He lost seven or eight teeth, and the rest were probably useless.
The remaining gangsters, seeing this, were terrified. Ferren’s methods were too brutal, and he drew blood with every move, even more ruthless than Brother Feng. They were so scared that they actually considered licking the paint.
At this moment, Ferren pointed at the big guy, who was slowly collapsing to the ground, and teased, "Now you just need to clean up the paint for me!"
Seeing Ferren’s brutality, the ancient elf felt a sense of relief.
The gangsters, upon hearing this, felt as if they had been granted amnesty. They quickly took off their clothes and started scrubbing the door. In two or three minutes, the door, though still red, no longer looked like it was leaking and dripping.
The black girl, seeing this, quickly took out her keys and opened the door, welcoming Ferren inside.
After Ferren slammed the door shut, the gangsters finally dared to gather around the patch-covered and big gangsters on the ground. The short gangster checked their breathing and sighed in relief, "Thank goodness, they’re still alive!"
Another gangster said, "They’re so badly injured, should we call an ambulance?"
The short gangster glared. "Call an ambulance? Do you have a lot of money? They’ll just have to go home and rest. This is the fate of being a short mule!"
Meanwhile, Ferren, inside the house, looked around and noticed that the ancient elf’s place wasn’t small, with one bedroom, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom. He remarked, "Wow, you owe money outside but live in such a spacious place!"
The ancient elf, however, looked gloomy. "This place is about to be demolished, so the rent is very cheap. I’m the only one living on this floor. Otherwise, do you think no one would have called the police with all that commotion?"
Ferren sneered. "Call the police? You forgot, I’m a police officer!"
The ancient elf was taken aback, realizing that she had instinctively treated Ferren as a gang leader when he was dealing with the gangsters in the hallway.
Half an hour later, Brother Feng arrived with a few people. Seeing the state of the patch-covered and big gangsters, he asked with a dark face, "Who did this?"
"Me!" Ferren’s voice came from inside, and then the ancient elf opened the door.
Brother Feng and Ferren exchanged a glance for less than a second. Unable to withstand Ferren’s needle-like gaze, Brother Feng averted his eyes and slowly said, "They call me Mad Dog. May I ask where you’re from? Are you really planning to take on the Black Girl’s debt?"
Ferren didn’t answer Mad Dog’s question. "Do you have the loan contract?" He could have directly taken out Mad Dog and his gang, but since many people knew about Mad Dog’s visit, it wasn’t a good time to act. He could only temporarily solve the problem with money.
Besides, if he didn’t get the loan contract back, any gangster who got it could extort the ancient elf, and Ferren wouldn’t have fulfilled his promise.
Hearing Ferren’s question, Mad Dog took a file from one of his men, opened it outside, and showed it to Ferren. "I have the contract, but how do you plan to settle this debt?"
