On September 1st, Mo Wen arrived early at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. A scarlet steam locomotive was quietly parked there, with a few people occasionally boarding or alighting from the train, and only a few people gathered around, with a few cats running about.
Mo Wen secretly let out a sigh of relief. Recently, there had been too many people approaching him for no reason, and he had to politely chat with each one. Who could blame him, with his distinctive heterochromatic eyes? Harry could at least hide his scar with his fringe, but Mo Wen had no way to hide his eyes. He had thought about wearing sunglasses, but he later found that they would be even more conspicuous in the wizarding world.
Taking advantage of the few people around, Mo Wen quickly slipped onto the Hogwarts Express. His luggage had already been shrunk and packed into a small bag. Since he had obtained his wand, third-level magic was no longer a problem for him, and he could even cast some fourth-level spells.
Finding a compartment farthest from the door, Mo Wen put on his Walkman and then placed a wizard's hat over his head. He leaned against the window and closed his eyes to rest.
On the Hogwarts Express, Cho Chang was walking back and forth in the corridor. She had arrived at the station early and, after putting her luggage on the train, had been searching through the compartments. For some reason, she really wanted to see the boy with the beautiful eyes before the start of the school year.
As the number of compartments she hadn't searched decreased, Cho Chang's face grew increasingly disappointed.
"Miss, do you need any help?" A boy who had been chatting with his friends suddenly brightened up when he saw Cho Chang searching through the compartments. He said something to his friend and then walked over to her.
"Who are you?" Cho Chang asked, somewhat surprised.
The handsome boy smiled, "Cedric Diggory, a third-year Hufflepuff. I see you're looking for something?"
"Yes, I'm looking for a friend. He's also a first-year, and I thought I might run into him on the train," Cho Chang said hesitantly. After all, she and Mo Wen had only met once, and she wasn't sure if they could be considered friends.
"He?" Diggory's eyebrows furrowed slightly at the word, but he quickly relaxed and smiled, "Let me help you look. I have quite a few friends at Hogwarts."
He then turned to lead Cho Chang through the carriages, "By the way, what's your friend's name?" Diggory asked, pretending to be indifferent.
"His name is Modi," Cho Chang replied, then suddenly blushed, realizing she hadn't remembered Mo Wen's last name. "His family is a pure-blood family with some Chinese heritage. Oh, and he has heterochromatic eyes, one gold and one silver, which are very distinctive."
"Modi? Pure-blood family? Chinese heritage?" Diggory had been trying to think of which pure-blood family had a member named Modi, and he knew that British pure-bloods rarely married into foreign families, especially Asian ones. But when he heard about the heterochromatic eyes, he immediately recognized who she was talking about. "Guris? The person you're looking for is Modi Guris!" As a member of the Ministry of Magic's family, Diggory naturally knew something about Mo Wen's situation and was somewhat surprised.
"Yes, that's his last name. Do you know him?" Cho Chang asked, somewhat excitedly.
Diggory thought for a moment and then smiled, "I don't know him personally, but Modi Guris is somewhat well-known in the pure-blood community. However, as far as I know, his family doesn't have any Chinese heritage, at least not in the last ten generations."
After some time, Mo Wen, who had been sleeping, suddenly felt someone shaking his shoulder. Opening his eyes, he saw Cho Chang's pretty face.
Mo Wen immediately took off his headphones and said happily, "Cho Chang, it's you! I didn't expect to run into you on the train. I thought we'd meet at the Sorting."
"Um, I've been looking for you since I got on the train. I didn't expect you to be hiding so far back," Cho Chang said, her enthusiasm clearly lacking for some reason.
"Who's this?" Mo Wen noticed the handsome boy behind Cho Chang and his eyes flashed with caution.
"I'm Diggory, Cedric Diggory. Nice to meet you, little genius of the Guris family," Diggory said, smiling and extending his hand.
Damn, that short-lived guy, how did he meet Cho Chang so early? Is he trying to make a move on such a young girl? Mo Wen thought to himself, extending his hand to shake Diggory's, though he didn't realize he had been thinking of doing something similar.
The three of them then sat down in the compartment and started chatting. Looking at Diggory's gaze toward Cho Chang, Mo Wen sensed his ill intentions and became wary. Mo Wen was interested in NTR (Netorare, a Japanese term for a situation where someone steals another person's love interest), but he had no interest in being NTR'd.
As they chatted, Cho Chang, who was sitting across from Mo Wen, suddenly fell silent and then asked, "Guris, why did you lie to me? Diggory said your family doesn't have any Chinese heritage."
"Huh?" Mo Wen looked at Diggory, who awkwardly rubbed his nose, and then turned back to Cho Chang, who was looking at him seriously.
Mo Wen suddenly smiled, leaning forward slightly, his heterochromatic eyes fixed on Cho Chang, and said slowly, "Why do you think I lied to you?"
Looking into his beautiful eyes, which were so close, Cho Chang could almost see her reflection in them. Her face turned red, and she had to admit that foreign kids matured early, even if she was of Chinese descent. She looked away awkwardly and said in a flustered voice, "How would I know?" but her expression was more natural.
Diggory's eyes twitched at the sight. This little brat from the Guris family was too skilled, like an old hand in the game. Originally, Cho Chang had been questioning him, and no matter how he explained, it would leave a bad impression. But by countering with a question, it turned into a kind of confession. Looking at Cho Chang's expression, it was clear she wasn't thinking about the lie anymore.
Seeing Cho Chang shyly turn away, Mo Wen didn't push her further, knowing that going too far could backfire. He took out his Walkman and said, "Do you want to listen to some music? This is a little gadget I made, and it has quite a few Chinese songs."
Looking at the Walkman-like device, Cho Chang was a bit puzzled, "Didn't you say Muggle things don't work in the wizarding world? Can this thing work?"
"I made it myself, based on the principle of a Muggle Walkman, but it's powered by magic, so it's fine."
"Sure, I'd like to listen."
Glancing at Diggory, Mo Wen stood up and sat next to Cho Chang, putting one earphone in her ear and the other in his own.
Cho Chang's face turned red from the intimate gesture, but since she had agreed, and Mo Wen's actions weren't inappropriate, she had to endure it, huddling up uncomfortably.
Mo Wen, however, was quite natural, smiling at Diggory, who turned black with jealousy and soon found an excuse to leave.
