After exiting the realm of consciousness, Wu Yi woke up in reality. He slowly opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was a simple yet sturdy white stone ceiling. Looking around, he found himself lying on a wooden bed, the mattress beneath him soft and warm. He got up and walked to the wooden table in the middle of the room and sat down. The room was sparsely decorated and clean, with sunlight streaming in from the window, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. The desperate battle before he fell unconscious seemed like a dream, leaving Wu Yi lost in thought.
"Big Sister, I bet the young man I saved is almost fully recovered. When I treated him, I found his constitution to be excellent, and he quickly absorbed the life energy from the rejuvenation spell, healing his wounds. After some rest, he should be back to his original state," a graceful and mature female voice snapped Wu Yi out of his daze.
The language the speaker used was one Wu Yi had never heard before, but he understood her words perfectly and even felt he could converse fluently. Wu Yi had instantly learned the language and script of this foreign world, a testament to the power of the upgrade system.
"Big Sister Aili, you are truly wise, brave, beautiful, and kind, with unmatched wisdom and formidable martial prowess. You can find a promising young man just by going out casually. I am utterly in awe of you. Please allow me to reiterate that you are my most revered idol," a rough, booming voice echoed, audible within thirty meters.
"Adi, your flattery is too obvious, it's giving me goosebumps. But this young man is indeed not ordinary. He hasn't even chosen a profession yet, but he managed to fend off a group of Fallen Ones, known as the killers of newcomers," another hoarse, magnetic voice interjected.
"Nike, do you mean to say that I am not wise, brave, beautiful, and kind, or that I lack wisdom and martial prowess?" A tall, beautiful figure walked into the room as she spoke.
The owner of the voice, Aili, had a head of golden hair that outshone any European actress, flowing freely behind her. The sunlight in the room seemed to brighten with her presence. Despite her enviable golden hair, her face was as delicate and charming as an Eastern beauty, with eyes as dark and deep as Wu Yi's.
Aili wore a set of light leather armor that barely covered her perfect figure, accentuating her curvaceous and powerful legs and her sensually curved hips. Her white, smooth arms were exposed, and a green bracelet adorned her wrist, adding a touch of freshness to her seductive appearance. Standing there, she exuded a mature and alluring charm.
"Big Sister, you know I didn't mean it that way. You are my guiding light. How could you not be wise, brave, beautiful, and kind, or lack wisdom and martial prowess?" Nike, dressed in a perfectly fitted steel armor, walked into the room. His handsome face and piercing blue eyes made him look like a prince charming, capable of captivating countless innocent girls, but he seemed to lack eloquence, clumsily explaining to Aili.
"Ha, Nike, you've made Big Sister angry again," Adi, the last to appear before Wu Yi, said with a smug tone.
Adi had a physique that would make any man feel ashamed, making figures like Arnold Schwarzenegger and world-class strongmen seem insignificant. He wore only a red loose-fitting undergarment and a blood-red cloak, a more Spartan look than the Spartans themselves. His tanned skin was covered with various terrifying scars, each like a medal, leaving a lasting impression.
"No, Big Sister isn't that petty," Nike countered.
Upon noticing that Wu Yi was awake, Aili walked up to him and asked gently, "Young man, how is your body recovering? Do you have any lingering aftereffects? You don't look like a professional or a mercenary. As an adventurer, why did you venture alone into the depths of the Bloodlands and get severely injured by a group of Fallen Ones?"
Wu Yi's heart skipped a beat, and he replied, "I'm sorry, my mind is a blank. I only remember my name, Wu Yi. I can't recall anything else."
Aili and the others exchanged glances and seemed to reach a consensus.
"Wu Yi, it seems the severe injuries you sustained in the battle with the Fallen Ones have caused you to lose most of your memory. But don't worry, you are now in the village of El, under the jurisdiction of the Rogue Encampment, and you are safe. I believe that with some rest, you will recover your memory. I am Aili, the captain of the village's guard. You can call me Big Sister Aili. These two are the deputy captain, Adi, and the paladin, Nike," Aili said, pointing to the two beside her.
Wu Yi now knew the talkative muscle man, Adi, and the less eloquent paladin, Nike.
"Big Sister Aili!" Wu Yi called out naturally, sensing sincerity and kindness in her words.
"But I don't even remember the Rogue Encampment or any common knowledge. Can you tell me about it?" Wu Yi didn't want to deceive his savior, but as a traveler from another world, he was unsure how people here would treat someone from a different world. He had to gain their trust and understand his situation and the world.
After using the穿越神技失忆大法 (穿越神技失忆大法 translates to "穿越神技" meaning "穿越" (穿越) "神技" (神技), which can be translated as "穿越神技" meaning "穿越" (穿越) "神技" (神技), but in this context, it means "amnesia technique"), Wu Yi boldly asked various questions. With the explanations from Aili and the others, Wu Yi finally had a general understanding of this world, which was very similar to the game "Diablo."
This was a world where demons and monsters danced, heroes and legends coexisted, and magic and martial arts flourished, a world filled with magical charm.
This world also had the seven classic professions from the game "Diablo": Sorcerer, Necromancer, Druid, Barbarian, Paladin, Assassin, and Amazon.
It had monsters and demons similar to those in the game, from the lowest-level Fallen Ones to minor bosses like the Corpsefire, and even the four Great Evils and the three Prime Evils, the ultimate bosses. Killing these demonic projections could yield items and equipment, just like in the game.
Unlike the game, if you died here, you couldn't retrieve your body, so it was best to cherish life and stay away from bosses. This world also had human settlements like the Rogue Encampment, Lut Gholein, Kurast Docks, the Arcane Sanctuary, and Harrogath, all fighting against demons. El Village was under the jurisdiction of the Rogue Encampment, a starting area for new players.
According to mythology, the vast world was created by a god who also created angels and demons. Angels lived in Heaven, and demons lived in Hell, constantly at odds with each other.
After humans appeared in the dark world, angels and demons disguised themselves as humans and entered the human world, trying to secretly recruit followers.
Later, the Sin War erupted between Heaven and Hell. Powerful humans emerged and accepted the challenge of the Sin War, some siding with the angels and others with Hell. The battlefield was chosen to be the human world, leading to a world-changing conflict.
Neither side won the Sin War, and it brought great disasters to the human world, making it unsuitable for human habitation. Peace-loving angels and demons used the power of the Worldstone to create a new world, the Sanctuary, modeled after the human world.
Most ordinary humans migrated to the Sanctuary, a more habitable world. The original human world was called the Nightmare World, and the Sanctuary was called the Ordinary World. Together, they formed the territory of the human world.
After the Sin War, Hell underwent a dramatic change. The four Great Evils united to rebel against the three Prime Evils, who were ultimately defeated and exiled to the human world. The arrival of the three Prime Evils brought significant changes to the dark world, bringing part of Hell's power to the human world, altering its rules.
Various demons from Hell could project and spawn in the human world, attacking the surviving humans. The demonic armies invaded both the Nightmare World and the Ordinary World. In the midst of this crisis, a new power was granted to humans by the gods, and many transmutation altars appeared in the human world.
This power was the power of the professions. By undergoing a transmutation ceremony at a transmutation altar, humans could become special professionals with unique abilities—killing demonic projections and absorbing their power.
Demonic projections were created by demons infusing their magic into the world's laws. Professionals could gain the magical power of these laws by killing demonic projections, using it to strengthen themselves, level up, and enhance their physical attributes and combat skills.
Some demons were very powerful, and the magical power they left behind after being killed would not be fully absorbed, forming equipment and items in the dark world, known as "dropping items."
Humans, with the power of professionals, began a thousand-year battle against demons.
Thus, professionals became the most prestigious profession in the dark world, and almost every young person dreamed of becoming one.
Even if they didn't successfully transmute into a professional, they would still be transformed by the world's laws at the transmutation altar, significantly enhancing their physical attributes and becoming mercenaries. After the transmutation ceremony, they could strengthen their abilities and absorb the power of demonic projections to some extent.
However, the materials and labor costs for a common person to transmute at a transmutation altar were 1,000 gold coins. In the dark world, four to five gold coins were enough to support a family of three for a month, so only a few people could afford the transmutation ceremony.
Nike successfully transmuted into a paladin six years ago and began fighting demons. Adi, Nike's friend, failed to transmute for six consecutive years, showing that transmutation was not as easy as it seemed.
Adi, despite failing multiple transmutations, did not gain the power of a mercenary but received the transformation from the transmutation ceremony six times, making him stronger than most professionals.
Wu Yi's main quest was to successfully transmute at a transmutation altar, which would fully activate the upgrade system, granting him the system's most powerful ability—upgrading.
"Wu Yi, you must be over eighteen years old, right?" Aili suddenly asked, sensing Wu Yi's eagerness to transmute.
"I vaguely remember I am nineteen this year, not as young as Big Sister Aili, who is always eighteen," Wu Yi flattered subtly. Adi winked at Wu Yi and gave him a thumbs-up, showing his admiration.
"Brother, you have a sweet mouth, but I like it," Aili said with a charming smile, her smile alluring yet not vulgar.
"I'm not trying to pry into your privacy, but the transmutation ceremony can only be successful if you are an adult. No matter how talented you are, it's futile if you're not an adult. Since you are already an adult, if you can prepare the 1,000 gold coins required for the ceremony, you can participate. Those who successfully transmute into professionals are strong. As long as you work hard to become stronger, you will succeed eventually," Aili said, glancing meaningfully at Adi.
"Yes, I will work hard," Wu Yi nodded.
"If you have any training questions, you can ask Adi. Although he is not as strong as me, he is actually very powerful," Aili said, pointing to Adi, who flexed his muscles, his rock-hard physique nearly blinding Wu Yi.
Aili: Level: ??? Combat Ability: ??? Skills: ??? Equipment: ???
Adi: Level: ??? Combat Ability: ??? Skills: ??? Equipment: ???
Nike: Level: ??? Combat Ability: ??? Skills: ??? Equipment: ???
Wu Yi's Heavenly Eye could not see Aili, Adi, and Nike's specific attributes, only their names, with the rest being question marks, indicating the significant gap in strength between them and Wu Yi.
Adi patted Wu Yi on the shoulder and laughed, "Brother Wu Yi, your ability to fend off a large group of Fallen Ones reminds me of my younger days. Back when I was in the Rogue Training Camp, I often went to the Bloodlands to hunt Fallen Ones. By the time I was sixteen, I was known as the 'Bane of Fallen Ones' throughout the Rogue Encampment. The Fallen Ones would tremble in fear at the sight of me, and Fallen Mages wouldn't even use their resurrection spells when they saw my imposing figure. I was a heartthrob to countless young girls and a seducer of mature women. Many beautiful women were honored to spend a night with me. My presence made many adventurers bow to me, crying and begging to be my followers. Even Lady Akara considered me the rising star of the dark continent, entrusting me with the task of saving the human world..."
Adi's tall figure and loud mouth were like an open faucet, spouting endless tales of his glorious past, making Wu Yi think he was a unique barbarian.
Wu Yi found that Adi's words had given him a quest.
Title Quest - Bane of Fallen Ones: Task Description: As the most common demonic projection in the dark world, only by becoming their bane can you make these weak demons fear and respect you, not daring to harass you easily.
Task Requirements: Kill 10,000 regular Fallen Ones, 500 Fallen Mages, 100 Elite Fallen Ones, and 10 Fallen Leaders.
Task Rewards: Gain the title "Bane of Fallen Ones."
Task Progress: Regular Fallen Ones (0/10,000), Fallen Mages (0/500), Elite Fallen Ones (0/100), Fallen Leaders (0/10).
Bane of Fallen Ones: +50% damage to Fallen Ones, intimidating effect on regular Fallen Ones.
Wu Yi felt that all the stories Adi told sounded like the protagonist's experiences in a real-world web novel, especially the phrases "vibrating tiger body" and "overwhelming aura," which left him feeling both amused and annoyed. Adi's loud voice even made Wu Yi's ears ring.
Standing beside Adi, the paladin Nike, with a face full of black lines, elbowed Adi's abdomen hard. Nike wore a full-body heavy armor, like a tin can, with his elbows also covered. Adi, in pain, clutched his stomach and crouched down.
Nike, somewhat apologetically, said to Wu Yi, "Adi is like this. He talks nonsense to anyone. As his friend, it's embarrassing for me. I often suspect he might be a mutant barbarian."
Adi, who had been in pain a moment ago, immediately stood up as if nothing had happened, flexed his muscles, and said proudly, "Have you ever seen a barbarian as strong as me? I am different from other barbarians. I'm not just muscle; my mind is sharp. I am practicing a divine skill called 'verbal evasion.' When I master it, I can straighten the crooked, bring the dead back to life, turn enemies into friends, and inspire a defeated army. Even the demon god Baal could be killed by my words. You, Nike, are blind and can't see the greatness of a hero like me. How could someone as outstanding as me have a partner as weak as you? Men like me are rare, standing out like fireflies in the dark, distinct and remarkable. My melancholic eyes, my stubble, and my divine axe skills all betray my true nature..."
Adi, lost in his fantasies, didn't notice that Aili and Nike had quietly left the room, leaving Wu Yi to endure his verbal bombardment.
