The night was as dark as ink, and it was already late. Most people had already fallen asleep.
"Liu Ben, don't blame me when you die. You shouldn't have had the idea to mess with Xu Yaqi. Attack!" Wang Zihao gave the order, and the surrounding thugs, holding machetes and clubs, grinned and moved toward Liu Ben in the center.
Liu Ben, however, was not as panicked as he had been that day. In his eyes, these people's movements were incredibly slow. He took a step forward instead of retreating, and with a swift kick, he sent one of the thugs flying. The thug's face contorted in pain, as if he were enduring unbearable agony, and he passed out when he hit the ground.
"Bang, bang, bang, bang" Before the other thugs could react, Liu Ben had already thrown four punches, and four more people fell to the ground, clutching their stomachs and howling in pain. One of the thugs finally reacted, swinging his machete at Liu Ben's head. Liu Ben sidestepped, and the machete whizzed past his face. Liu Ben then delivered a straight punch, and the thug fell to the ground.
The remaining thugs were now afraid, their eyes fixed on Liu Ben as they slowly backed away, terrified that Liu Ben would knock them down too. Liu Ben did not rush to attack; his eyes slowly scanned their faces, finally settling on Wang Zihao's.
"Wang Zihao, stay. The rest of you, get lost," Liu Ben said softly, his eyes fixed on Wang Zihao.
The other thugs exchanged glances, hesitant.
"Get lost, or you'll end up on the ground too," Liu Ben said coldly.
The thugs didn't hesitate any longer and turned to run.
Wang Zihao, however, was stunned. In such a short time, Liu Ben seemed like a different person, effortlessly taking down so many people. He wondered if he was dreaming.
"Wang Zihao, it's your turn," Liu Ben said, slowly approaching Wang Zihao.
"Liu Ben, don't touch me. You can't afford to mess with me," Wang Zihao threatened.
Liu Ben's right hand shot out, and before Wang Zihao could react, he grabbed his neck. Liu Ben effortlessly lifted Wang Zihao, who weighed nearly 200 pounds, off the ground. His fingers clamped around Wang Zihao's neck like steel, and despite Wang Zihao's desperate struggles, he couldn't budge them.
"Your life is in my hands now. If I use a little force, you'll say goodbye to this world," Liu Ben said with a wicked smile.
To Wang Zihao, these words sounded like a death sentence, more terrifying than anything else. He was absolutely sure that Liu Ben would not hesitate to end his life.
"Liu... Ben, I... I was wrong, I... I won't... dare again, please... let me go," Wang Zihao's face turned red from the lack of air, and he spoke in a broken voice.
"You won't die, but you'll suffer. How else will you remember?" Liu Ben said, then lightly tossed Wang Zihao's body and, with a swift kick, sent him flying to the ground. The kick, though only using a third of his strength, was enough to break Wang Zihao's ribs and keep him in bed for months.
Wang Zihao's face contorted in pain, and sweat poured down his face. He felt as if his chest was on fire, and the pain washed over him in waves, torturing him.
"I have one more warning for you. Stay away from Xu Yaqi and stop harassing her. If you don't, next time it won't be just a light kick. Understand, Mr. Wang?" Liu Ben squatted down in front of Wang Zihao, gently patting his face.
Wang Zihao nodded with difficulty, unable to speak from the pain.
"Then, Mr. Wang, go home and rest well," Liu Ben smiled, a seemingly sunny smile. But to Wang Zihao, it looked more like the smile of a devil.
Liu Ben let Wang Zihao go not because he didn't want to kill him, but because he couldn't bring himself to do it. After over 20 years of education, he was deeply bound by morality and couldn't easily kill someone.
Liu Ben felt a sense of relief, but he didn't know that his mercy would almost lead to his regret in the near future.
It was a peaceful night, and Liu Ben felt refreshed, sleeping in for once. If it weren't for the sound of his phone ringing, he might have slept until noon.
"Hello, who is it?" Liu Ben answered the phone without opening his eyes, still half-asleep.
"Liu Ben, Mr. Liu, the sun is already up. Why are you still in bed?" A clear voice came from the phone, and it could only be Xu Yaqi.
Liu Ben's mind snapped to attention at the sound of her voice, and he sat up in bed.
"Miss Xu, so early?" Liu Ben chuckled.
"Early? It's almost noon. I've already finished my work," Xu Yaqi teased.
"I had some things to deal with last night and went to bed late," Liu Ben explained, not wanting Xu Yaqi to think he was lazy. "Wait for me at the sales office. I'll be there after I freshen up."
Liu Ben hung up the phone and rushed into the bathroom without even tidying his bed.
Wearing a pink casual outfit that revealed her clear and beautiful collarbone, and a light green mini skirt paired with leggings that accentuated her long legs, Xu Yaqi stood at the entrance of the residential area, looking around as if waiting for someone.
Liu Ben saw Xu Yaqi standing gracefully at the entrance of the sales office from a distance. She looked stunning today, and he found himself walking a bit slower.
"Miss Xu, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting," Liu Ben said, trying to calm his excitement.
"Oh, always 'Miss Xu, Miss Xu,' it sounds so formal. Just call me Yaqi," Xu Yaqi pouted.
Xu Yaqi didn't think much of it, but Liu Ben was captivated by her charming expression.
"Ya... Qi," Liu Ben stared at Xu Yaqi, dazed.
Xu Yaqi felt a bit smug seeing Liu Ben's dazed look. It was worth her early morning effort to dress up.
"Snap out of it, what are you looking at?" Xu Yaqi felt a bit embarrassed under Liu Ben's gaze.
"Oh... oh... nothing, Yaqi, you look beautiful today," Liu Ben came to his senses and said sincerely.
"Of course, I'm naturally beautiful," Xu Yaqi said proudly, like a little peacock. But she was secretly delighted by Liu Ben's compliment.
"Yes, yes, Miss Xu Yaqi is the most beautiful. The word 'beauty' was made for you," Liu Ben flattered her, and Xu Yaqi blushed.
"Not that good, you're making me blush. Mr. Liu, it's getting late. Let's start our work for today," Xu Yaqi changed the subject.
Then the two of them began their day.
