Chen Mo looked up at the sky, his heart rate increasing sharply, even more so than when he had witnessed a murder scene. At least the murder scene was still within the realm of reality; now, he couldn’t tell if this was a dream or reality.

As soon as his question faded, a beam of golden light shot from the golden sun into his head, and a virtual screen appeared before him. The information displayed on it made his face pale.

The Wu World Gate was a portal that could transport him to any martial world he knew. The so-called Chosen Ones were those tasked with completing missions set by the Wu World Gate. Completing these missions would earn them martial points, which could be exchanged for various benefits within the Wu World Gate. However, if they failed and lacked enough martial points, they would cease to exist. Most importantly, once recognized as a Chosen One, they could only participate in missions; otherwise, they would vanish without a trace.

“Gulp... Isn’t this just an infinite version of the Overlord system?” Chen Mo said with a pale face.

The Wu World Gate offered exchanges for bloodlines, techniques, weapons, and elixirs, as well as the ability to enhance various useful or seemingly useless skills. Chen Mo glanced at the options. Although not as complex as the Overlord system, the most top-tier options like the Pangu bloodline, the Three Opening Heaven Techniques, the Heaven-Opening Axe, and the Sacred Essence Pill all required nine out of ten martial points. Even slightly lower-tier options like the Twelve Divine Spirits bloodline and combat skills required nine out of nine terrifying points.

However, there were also cheaper techniques, bloodlines, weapons, and elixirs. A common martial bloodline required only one point, military boxing also required one point, a small iron knife required one point, and a Calming Pill also required one point.

Thinking of the infinite, Chen Mo felt a chill that made him clench his legs. He knew that thing could be fatal at any moment. It was just a night shift, so why did that middle-aged man shove the black jade into his chest? And why did that fat woman knock on the door at the last moment to make him cut his finger?

At this point, he didn’t know if he could return. He had grandparents, parents, and a family to support. If he died here, he felt he would be letting them down after all the love and care they had given him over the years.

Chen Mo’s eyes dimmed, and tears gathered in them. He wasn’t the kind of person who lacked a heart or conscience. Thinking of this, he squatted down, ready to cry, but the voice from the screen interrupted him:

“The Wu World Gate is not the same as the Overlord system you know; it just has similar functions. The Overlord system does not allow taskers to return to their own world and disrupt society with their abilities, but the Wu World Gate has no such restrictions. Before completing high-level martial tasks, you will have at least ten days to return to your world after each mission.

“Except for not using internal energy, true energy, or any other forms of energy in reality, not revealing the existence of the Wu World Gate, and not bringing technological weapons into the mission world, you can use your other abilities and skills, as well as items you bring back from the mission world. However, most skills and items require significant energy to function, so using them might be meaningless.

“The martial world is much larger and more complex than you can imagine. Martial arts is a system, the strongest cultivation system. If you complete the final task, you can control the Wu World Gate and become the strongest, and you will understand why the Wu World Gate exists.”

Chen Mo’s lips trembled slightly. He wiped the tears from his eyes and asked, sobbing:

“Why did you choose me? Isn’t it said that the strong are fearless? But I feel afraid. How long will each mission take? If it takes decades to complete a mission, won’t my parents be long gone by the time I return?”

The screen appeared because Chen Mo was used to looking at computers, and the Wu World Gate automatically generated it. The golden sun was the spirit of the Wu World Gate, the controller who guided the Chosen Ones through various martial worlds and answered their questions.

After Chen Mo’s long list of questions, the controller responded in a deep voice:

“Martial artists are fearless only when they have great power. Pretending to be fearless without the ability is a death wish. You were chosen by fate, and those with a sense of fear can live longer.

“As for the duration of each mission, it can range from a few thousand years to a couple of years. However, even if you spend billions of years in the Wu World Gate, when you exit, only a minute or two will have passed in the outside world. So you don’t need to worry about missions affecting your real life.”

Chen Mo didn’t know whether to feel relieved or despair. Completing missions was a matter of life and death, but the benefits were numerous. As a young man, he had countless fantasies, even dreaming of entering the Overlord world. But now that it was real, he felt extremely uneasy.

In a daze, he looked at a row of numbers on the screen. He examined them closely and saw his own profile. He muttered to himself:

“Nineteen, one hundred thirty, zero, one hundred five, fifteen, ten, ordinary bloodline. What are these things?”

The controller explained in a voice devoid of emotion:

“Age nineteen, maximum burst strength one hundred thirty kilograms, internal energy zero; intelligence one hundred five, reaction speed fifteen, which means you will react in 0.65 seconds, agility ten, which means your maximum speed is ten meters per second.

“In the Wu World Gate, each increase in strength by one kilogram costs one martial point, one year of cultivation is five martial points, one point of intelligence up to one hundred thirty is one martial point, up to one hundred sixty is five martial points, up to two hundred is fifty martial points, up to two hundred thirty is five hundred martial points, and then it increases by ten points per level, with a tenfold increase in exchange points.

“Reaction speed up to 0.1 seconds is one martial point per second, up to 0.01 seconds is ten martial points, and so on, with a tenfold increase in exchange points.

“Speed cannot be exchanged; it requires your own training and cultivation. As for your bloodline, it is an ordinary human bloodline, which can be enhanced through training or exchange to become a stronger martial bloodline.

“Bloodlines can be exchanged from ordinary, beginner, intermediate, advanced, spirit, immortal, divine, and special, with values ranging from one to nearly a billion martial points.”

“Can you tell me what the average person’s values are?” Chen Mo asked, feeling somewhat excited by the powerful exchange system.

“Seventy-five kilograms of strength, one hundred intelligence, twelve reaction speed, and eight agility are considered average. You are a healthy, normal person,” the controller explained.

“Will the martial world for the missions be known in advance or chosen randomly?” Chen Mo asked, swallowing hard, having read many infinite novels.

If he could know in advance, he could continuously read martial arts novels and search for benefits like the team members in those novels. Even without side quests, if he could obtain a large number of techniques and treasures, his life in reality would be much more comfortable, and his family would be lifted out of poverty.

The controller said:

“Chosen Ones cannot know the mission area in advance, but there is a strict level system. Each level can only enter the corresponding level mission, and high-level martial missions are set in specific series of martial arts novels that you know. If you have the opportunity, you will have significant foresight before becoming a high-level martial artist.”
