Sometimes, the truth seemed more unreal than fiction.
As far as he knew, there were many formations and objects that had the ability to increase one’s strength, emotions, or even spirits.
Many of the sects and clans that Yu Yuan encountered in his past life had a large formation at their base to protect them in case of sudden danger.
Powerful formations could cumulate spiritual energy, calm one’s mind, and strengthen one’s body.
However, those that impact one’s emotion of sadness must have been rare.
“Could the Yu Clan have such a device?” He pondered.
But when he cultivated the Yu Clan, it was no different from elsewhere.
“Your grandpa is awake.”
While he was thinking, the Mayoress suddenly whispered.
Yu Yuan said, “I can’t answer your questions right now, because I haven’t quite figured it out either. Please give me some more time.”
Yuan Lianyao nodded, and said, “I am curious and worried about you. Please take care.”
From her father, she was told that Yu Yuan was extraordinary and had many hidden secrets.
She might find Yu Yuan to be useful in the future.
Since Yu Yuan already claimed that he didn’t know much, she couldn’t ask for much more.
She left quietly.
Without another word, Yu Yuan went immediately to see Yu Can.
In the dimly lit room, sleepy-eyed Yu Can looked at his grandson and asked, “What brought you here in the middle of the night? The sun is about to rise soon, why in a rush to meet me now?”
“Grandpa, right now, in the whole clan, only us two are awake.” Yu Yuan went straight to what he wanted to know. “I got this white fan from the Zhao Clan’s Hall of Treasures this morning.”
Yu Yuan detailedly explained how his Soul of Heaven was sucked into the words on the fan and the stage sadness that covered the Yu Clan.
He didn’t even forget to tell Yu Can about Yuan Lianyao and Su Yan’s mid-night visit.
“Grandpa, what do you think might have caused all these?”
Finally, he finished his story and looked into Yu Can’s eyes.
The old man sat there without a word for a long time.
Yu Yuan was surprised, “Does our clan actually have some hidden secrets?”
“I have a younger sister.” Yu Can stated out of nowhere. “Her name was Yu Ying. She was taken away by a powerful sect at a very young age and became a cultivator.”
Yu Yuan nodded. “I heard from my aunt about Grandma Ying. She told me that my grandma never came back.”
“In fact, that’s not true. She came back once secretly.” Yu Can’s expression was depressed. He said in a low voice. “Yu Clan used to not look like this, but from her request, we rebuilt the clan.”
Yu Yuan was shocked. “So she designed these buildings herself?”
“That’s right.” Yu Can nodded. “When she came back, I remember that her cultivation had reached beyond the point that I could tell. She seemed to have provoked some terrifying enemy and decided not to bring the Yu Clan into her business, so we rebuilt secretly. Maybe it was for her, maybe for the Yu Clan, she left something here.”
“What is it?” Yu Yuan asked, desperate for an answer.
“I don’t know.” Yu Can smiled bitterly. He pointed to his feet. “All I know is that this ‘thing’ is down there, sealed by a powerful formation. Before she left, she seemed to have known that she was going to die and told me that someone with the blood of the Yu Family, which includes you and me, can open the formation that leads a path underground.”
“But she warns that the person must have reached the Profound Realm before going in, and best if they reached the Yin God Realm.”
“My guess is that the sadness released from your fan probably activated parts of the formation, causing this strange phenomenon.”
Yu Can explained.
Yu Yuan, on the other hand, was stunned by such words.
Yu Clan had been the smallest and weakest of the clans in the city, but how could they have such a powerful grandma?
That “thing” must be extraordinary.
Perhaps that was why she chose to hide it in such a remote place and need someone who reached the Profound Realm to open it.
Looks like in order to find out the secret, Yu Yuan must advance quickly in his realms.
Sadly, since the grandma of his left, the Yu Clan hadn’t had a single Profound Realm cultivator.
Yu Can was once at the Dark Burst Realm, but fell back to the Yellow Room Realm after he was injured.
“Wait, does that mean my marriage plan with Lin Zhujun has something to with it?” Yu Yuan suddenly thought of that, “How did that old lady from the Lin Clan find out about this?”
“Hmmm, about that…”
Yu Can blushed and said embarrassingly, “Many years ago, when I was still young, I was seeking for her love, but, of course, I failed.”
“Once, when I was heartbroken and drunk, I told her that she would regret her decision when I reached the Profound Realm.”
“That time, I accidentally revealed this secret.”
“After I was conscious, I regretted what I said, but for all those years, she kept it as a secret for me as well.”
“As for the marriage agreement, it was partly because I saved her life once a long time ago, and also because she somewhat believed in what I said.”
“She probably figured most of my words out, which is why she agreed to marry her granddaughter to you.”
”She was betting that our clan would eventually be able to use the secret device she hid under the ground.”
“Sigh… But no one was able to reach the Profound Realm yet.”
“At that time, your father was very hopeful to reach it in the near future, but after seeking a cure for your problem, they never returned from the Nine Deep Cliffs.”
“…”
After the old man started, he could not help but kept talking about all the depressing things that happened a long time ago.
Yu Yuan was glad that he finally found out why the old lady of the Lin Clan insisted on their marriage.
If that underground secret is uncovered, it could likely change the Yu Clan’s future!
That sister of his grandpa must have been more powerful than he could imagine.
“Grandpa, you should work hard toward the Profound Realm to save the clan from this troubling state.”
Yu Yuan grinned, and said, “Also, now that I know, An Ziqing might have been hiding here for the same reason.”
“Yeah, after I learned that she was from the Divine Blood Sect, I guessed that she must have come from this.” Yu Can was very worried. “I only told the secret to the old lady. No one else knew, not even Yu Wei and his two siblings. So, I’m not sure how she was able to find out about this.”
Yu Yuan frowned, “If that’s true, then we must be more cautious because we don’t know who else might have some clues.”
“I don’t think we would fall that easily next time she comes.”
“The most important thing right now is to get you recovered.” Yu Yuan encouraged.
Yu Can sighed, “Reaching the Profound Realm is not easy.”
“I’m going to our old house to live for now.” Yu Yuan picked up the white paper fan, “I don’t want to cause more disturbance and attract attention.”
“Let Mr. Ning go with you again.”
“Okay.”
…
Two days later.
On behalf of the Su Clan, Su Yin officially notified Yu Can that from now on, the Su Clan will no longer accept any herbs from the Yu Clan.
Yu Clan was struck with a great wave of panic.
Yu Wei and some elders of the clan sent messages to other clans who might need the herbs, but they all responded with the same reply.
They wouldn’t purchase either.
Yu Clan became alone by itself.
It was clear that the Su Clan was taking revenge on the Yu Clan.
Su Clan was the head of the medicine business. Yu Clan was left with big trouble.
In the blink of an eye, the herd work of the clan became worthless.
How could they support the cultivators and retainers now?
Yu Can felt helpless.
