Chapter 57: Moon Fragments

5 min read1,144 words

Inside the Forbidden Land.

Large holes, one after another, densely packed the entire land. At the very bottom of every hole was one or more fragments of the moon.

The natural spiritual energy around this place was several times stronger than that of Dark Moon City!

Even just by staying at the Forbidden Land for a while, cultivators would benefit greatly through the additional energy present.

Of course, they only had four months.

According to Yuan Lianyao, the spiritual energy in the Forbidden Land was incredibly unpredictable.

In some periods throughout the year, the energy would be so violent and disorderly that it was harmful to most cultivators to stay here for long.

The Silver Moon Empire had collected data from this area for years, and thanks to these statistics, people estimated that every ten years there would be a time that cultivators could stay in the area safely.

The event or some called it training, lasted four months, and after that, the spiritual energy would gradually start to return to its normal turbulent state.

After these four months of calmness, the spiritual energy would visually block out this area from the outside world, making it hard for people outside to tell what’s going on inside even with special tools.

Therefore, after those four months, participants who wanted to stay would not be protected by the empire or individual clans.

…

“Pfft.”

Exhaling a long breath, Yu Yuan folded up the white paper fan.

The four pitch-black words still released a touch of sadness.

In his mind, the previous pain from his Soul of Heaven had been greatly reduced.

Yu Yuan believed that with a few more days, he could fully recover from the damage made by that woman.

“Li Yuchan…”

He muttered the name as he looked up at the starry night sky with a bright crescent moon. “A general of the empire who is already at the late stage of the Profound Realm can hurt my soul with just a single glance. Looks like I have underestimated the cultivators in the Silver Moon Empire.”

He was sitting in one of the holes.

In front of him was a stone path extending underground and beside him were several other holes of various sizes, each occupied by Yuan Ting, Zhao Yafu, Yu Feifei, and some others.

As soon as they entered the Forbidden Land, their team members each randomly chose a hole and hopped in to start cultivating.

“Brother Yu, do you want to go down to the bottom and check out the mysterious moon fragments?”

Zhao Yafu found her way beside Yu Yuan by listening to his breathing. “Look at all the stone paths left behind by our predecessors. There probably have been thousands before us who longed to benefit from sighting these moon fragments.”

The holes that were craters created from the moon fragments were smooth on the surface but many pathways were dug.

Looking from a distance, there were a dozen or so steps, steeply leading downward.

Along the crater’s smooth walls were a handful of smaller caves.

Some caves were merely a shelter for people to stay in.

Others however could be used as a shortcut to another creator.

“Let’s just take a look then.”

Yu Yuan slowly stood up and walked along the stone path. “But don’t expect too much from this. For thousands of years, countless people have explored this place and there is a reason why for the recent hundred or so years, fewer people are coming. From what I can tell, this is nothing more but a chance for the five clans and seven cities to examine the potential of the younger generation.”

For this event, he truly didn’t hope to get much more than advancing into the next realm.

In his previous life, he had seen so many rare items and tools which were probably the best in the Vast World.

Any precious items must have been taken already.

“If you find anything good, remember to tell me.”

Yuan Ting waved to the two of them, and said, “I’ll look around up here.”

In the first four months, all teams were forbidden to cause intentional deaths.

At the entrance of the Forbidden Land, there were probably people monitoring every move of theirs to ensure safety and security.

As soon as there was a battle, people from outside would rush in.

Because of this, Yuan Ting was not worried about Yu Yuan and Zhao Yafu at all.

At least for now.

“Well, let’s go.” Yu Yuan continued walking down.

After around ten minutes of descending, they finally reached where the moon fragment was.

That silvery-white moon fragment as large as three acres of land, glowing like a rare metal under the moonlight.

“It’s a bit cold.”

Zhao Yafu hopped onto the giant piece of rock and crouched down to touch it with her palm. “Brother Yu, this fragment of the moon is unique. It feels like a rock but also similar to metal.”

“Can you inject any spiritual energy into there?” Yu Yuan asked.

“Not from where I’m standing.” Zhao Yafu shook her head, “Nothing goes in.”

“How about try extracting?” Yu Yuan asked again.

“Still nothing.”

While talking, Yu Yuan also landed on the fragment of the moon. He reached out and touched it, and just like what Zhao Yafu said, it was cold with a sense of stone and metal.

He attempted to withdraw energy with the Nine Bright Heavenly Cycles, but nothing would come out.

Inside, it seems to be solid.

“Why would anyone say that they could perceive some mysterious methods of cultivation from these moon fragments? How can this large chunk of rock even help?” Zhao Yafu didn’t know what to do anymore. “There is no writing, no patterns…”

“This piece might not be the one then. There are still plenty of others.” Yu Yuan smiled and said, “Someone might have taken the useful parts already.”

Hearing this, Zhao Yafu was a little disappointed, “How nice would it be if we are born a few hundred years earlier. Perhaps if we come here then we might find something fascinating.”

Yu Yuan circled the fragment of the moon and observed it carefully.

He saw that many parts of the meteorite fragment had signs of being chipped away, as well as weapon marks left behind from a battle.

The traces didn’t have any patterns, which indicated that they were not deliberately carved.

It also meant that this hole didn’t have any of the so-called inheritance from predecessors.

“There’s not that much to it.”

He didn’t want to waste even a minute of their time.

When they were climbing back to the surface long the stone stairs, he suddenly heard a scream.

“Brother, come up! I found something!”

Yu Feifei popped out of a cave along the crater walls and waved at them.

…
