Chapter 34

At 10:00 AM, the first part of the martial arts test—the strength test—had concluded. All the candidates in each examination room were waiting in the rest area. The strength test naturally brought joy to some and sorrow to others, with some performing below their usual level and others exceeding expectations. However, in the face of the record-breaking 8000KG, all the candidates' scores paled in comparison.

The invigilators in the monitoring room would verify the scores, and 15 minutes later, the second part of the martial arts test would begin. The three parts of the martial arts test would be completed in the morning, with the third part starting at 2:00 PM in the afternoon.

Getting through this day also signified the end of the three-year journey at the intermediate school.

In Examination Room No. 362, thousands of candidates gathered in the rest area, many whispering to each other. Their gazes involuntarily fell on the young man in the corner. This year's martial arts test was destined to be extraordinary.

"Candidate Number: 144, Name: Sun Yan, Final Strength Test Score: 8000KG, Rating: A+"

Sun Yan was very satisfied with this score. As long as he continued to achieve an A+ in the second part, entering the Imperial Wind Academy would be a sure thing.

"What are you thinking about? You didn't fall asleep again, did you?" Shui Lianqing's voice sounded.

Coming back to his senses, Sun Yan looked up and grinned, "I did fall asleep, and I dreamed about you, Shui Meimei."

Shui Lianqing's face turned red. Despite becoming more familiar with Sun Yan over the past few days, his brazen way of speaking still made her uncomfortable.

"I doubt you were dreaming about me. You should say that to the other beauty." Shui Lianqing's cheeks flushed even more, and her tone became slightly sour.

Whenever she thought about that noon on the rooftop, where Sun Yan and Feng Lingxue sat side by side, a faint pang of jealousy would arise in her heart.

Sun Yan was taken aback, but before he could react, he saw a transparent room slowly descending in the hall. "You need to do your best in the second part, girl."

"I don't need you to tell me. I'll do my best." Shui Lianqing murmured, gazing at the transparent rooms, "If I can get a B+ in the second part, that would be great."

In the central area, 20 transparent glass rooms descended. These rooms, made of optical sensor glass, were circular with a diameter of 200 meters.

Thump, thump, thump, thump...

At the edge of the hall, hundreds of holographic projectors activated, and the 20 transparent rooms immediately transformed into small rainforest areas. Although they were holographic images, these simulated rainforests were extremely realistic.

This was the second part of the martial arts test—the rainforest avoidance, commonly known as the "Death Zone Adventure."

From the second part onwards, the graduation exam's martial arts test became more brutal. Unlike the strength test, which had three attempts, the rainforest avoidance had only one chance.

In this holographic simulated rainforest, there were various potential traps, randomly fired arrows, and bullets. Candidates had to stay in the simulated tropical rainforest for 30 to 300 seconds. During this time, each trap triggered, or being hit by an arrow or bullet, would affect the final score. The longer the stay, the more frequent the appearance of traps, arrows, and bullets.

Similarly, the longer the stay and the fewer injuries, the higher the score.

Staying for 30 seconds without a scratch, score: D+; staying for 300 seconds without a scratch, score: A+.

On the large screen hanging at the front of the hall, the content changed to show the records of the second part of the test. The top record holder—stay time: 4 minutes 40 seconds, errors: 2.

Looking at the rainforest areas formed in the 20 rooms, the candidates in the rest area all showed signs of tension. From the second part onwards, they had to perform well, or they would regret it.

Seeing Shui Lianqing's anxious expression, Sun Yan raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Practicing a unique technique gives a significant advantage in the second part. You should be worried about me."

"Worried about you?" Shui Lianqing shot him a glare, "Someone who can fall asleep standing up before the exam, and still has the nerve to ask others to worry. You don't know what it means to be nervous, do you?"

Sun Yan shrugged. Indeed, from a young age, he had never experienced the feeling of nervousness or fear. Even at the age of 8, when he was in a car accident, he felt excruciating pain but no fear of death. He had never even shed a tear.

"My old man says I was born missing two brain cells," Sun Yan said.

At this moment, the staff's voice sounded, "The second part of the martial arts test—rainforest avoidance. Candidates 1 to 20, 30 seconds to prepare..."

"Click!"

The switches were turned on one by one, and 20 candidates stood in front, slowly adjusting their breathing before finally dashing into the rooms.

"Candidates 21 to 40..."

"Candidates 41 to 60..."

Batch after batch of candidates entered for testing, and soon it was Shui Lianqing's turn. Sun Yan gave her an encouraging smile and watched her beautiful figure disappear into the dense holographic rainforest.

From the outside, the rainforest was overgrown with shrubs and swamps, constantly changing, making it difficult to see the candidates inside. However, after discussing with Chen Wang and Feng Lingxue multiple times, Sun Yan knew that candidates who practiced unique techniques had a significant advantage in the second part.

"Unique techniques not only greatly enhance the power of inner energy and combat skills, but practitioners of unique techniques also have improved senses and agility."

"The reason why prestigious schools attract so many students is that their libraries house unique techniques of the fifth rank and above."

"Even the unique techniques of the general martial arts families in Luoshan City are only of the fourth rank. Apart from the Feng family's 'Supreme Cold Wind Technique,' our Chen family's 'Victory or Defeat Technique,' the Chang family's 'Thousand-Pound Force Technique,' and the Qian family's 'Shattered Jade Technique' are also only of the fifth rank."

Recalling the words of Feng Lingxue and Chen Wang, Sun Yan watched Shui Lianqing's figure, which appeared and disappeared in the holographic rainforest. He knew there was no need to worry about her. The 'Weak Water Technique' was characterized by its flexibility and endurance, and its inner energy flow was adept at responding after the fact. It was perfectly suited for a test like the rainforest.

A moment later, Shui Lianqing emerged from the holographic rainforest. Her score was: time: 2 minutes 35 seconds, errors: 7, rating: B+.

Seeing the B+ rating, Shui Lianqing turned her head and secretly gave a sweet smile. Unbeknownst to her, this action had already caught the attention of a group of boys, who were secretly lamenting. This beautiful little flower had already been claimed before they could even think about it.

Sun Yan gave her a thumbs-up to congratulate her. Suddenly, he felt a gaze on his back. Turning his head, he saw Qian Li standing not far away, staring at him with shock and anger, and a hint of fear in his eyes.

When Sun Yan's gaze met his, Qian Li involuntarily lowered his head. He clenched his fists tightly, feeling afraid of this trash's gaze? This trash had such terrifying strength.

A sense of humiliation and anger spread in his chest, like a venomous snake eroding his heart. Recalling the harsh words he had thrown earlier, Qian Li felt a pang of panic. What if Sun Yan challenged him in the third part of the test?

The third part of the martial arts test—free challenge—gave each candidate three chances to challenge and three chances to refuse a challenge. However, the three chances to refuse a challenge could only be used if the opponent was stronger.

In the candidate information, Sun Yan's martial arts level was Body Forging, while Qian Li's was First-Rank Martial Artist. This meant Qian Li had no chance to refuse the challenge.

Drop out of the exam?

No, no, I am a member of the Qian family. How can I have such thoughts? Qian Li's eyes turned red, and he felt panic for the first time.

"Candidates 141 to 160, 30 seconds to prepare..."

Twenty candidates stepped out and stood at the doors of their respective rooms. As the staff confirmed the time, they all entered the rooms.

Swish!

The transparent door behind Sun Yan closed, and he found himself in a tropical rainforest. A damp smell hit him, and he realized how real the scene was.

However, Sun Yan was not the least bit nervous. On the contrary, he felt a faint sense of excitement, as if he had returned to the past.

Before the age of 8, he and his father lived in the ancestral home. At that time, the outskirts of Luoshan City had not yet been designated as a restricted area, and the wilderness was full of dangers. During those days, the weak and small Sun Yan and his father spent their days avoiding attacks from wild animals and monsters. Although they lived in constant fear, no one mocked his father, and no one looked down on him.

Whoosh!

From the thick shrubs, an arrow shot out. The arrow, half a meter long, was dark green and blended into the environment, making it hard to notice.

"Hmm? Perhaps the danger here is a bit less." Sun Yan's eyes flickered, and the trajectory of the arrow appeared in his mind. He slightly turned his body, and the arrow passed by him.

Taking a small step to the right, the damp ground suddenly sank, and a row of sharp spikes shot up on his left side.

Sun Yan moved slowly, his body swaying slightly, his steps casual, moving forward, backward, left, or right, like a leopard strolling through the jungle. The arrows and bullets always grazed past him, and the traps he triggered could not harm him in the slightest.

"Good!"

In the monitoring room, Teacher Dao slapped his chair, which groaned as if it might break. This candidate was quite satisfactory.

Beside him, Carter nodded in agreement, his heart filled with joy. The people present were all the chief instructors of the school, but none of their students could compare to Sun Yan. Although he had not given any guidance, Sun Yan was nominally his student.

Guo Nu also rarely showed a smile, "A beast-like fighting instinct. This candidate has a bright future."

However, his expression turned serious as he recalled something. Even if Sun Yan achieved A+ in all three parts, due to his absence in the written test, he could only enter the ordinary department of the Imperial Wind Academy, not the elite department.

The others present also marveled, and Wang Sen's face was full of smiles. Sun Yan was truly a pleasant surprise. Although the previous incident could not be hidden, as long as it was handled properly, it could be a good thing for Nan Ying Academy.

Time passed second by second, and watching Sun Yan's leisurely performance, Teacher Dao nodded in satisfaction, "It seems this candidate will definitely get an A+ in the second part. As for the third part, I believe he will also get the highest score. Xiao Ye, don't even think about it."

Ye Zefeng nodded in agreement, but he had other plans. Although two former superiors were watching closely, he would try to privately contact and recruit this martial arts genius after the exam.
