After giving the order, Shinzan Yumi instructed the soldiers to remain still and maintain vigilance at their positions, while the injured dog was taken back for treatment. He then went alone to the front of the explosion site and slowly began searching the ground.

In the distance, Dong Ku and his group were heading towards the road leading to Qitaihe. Upon hearing the consecutive explosions, they all knew the trap had worked. They were excited but also tense, knowing that the enemy was not far away. They needed to quickly break out of the encirclement and create some commotion to draw the Japanese army's attention, in order to complete the training of the new recruits.

While on the move, Dong Ku signaled the team to speed up, taking advantage of the Japanese soldiers rushing to the explosion site to break out.

Shinzan Yumi was carefully flipping through the dry leaves on the ground, searching for traces. Suddenly, a small pit in the soil caught his attention. He carefully cleared the surrounding dry leaves and carefully examined the small pit.

This was a mark left by a pointed object, not naturally formed.

He looked back at the explosion site and then at the small hole, quickly concluding that it was consistent with the direction the dog was tracking.

Sure enough, less than two meters ahead, he found another similar small pit.

He squatted down and slowly flipped all the surrounding dry leaves, searching for traces.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he saw a footprint.

"Found it!"

He did not show excessive joy but slowly followed the direction of the footprint, flipping the dry leaves.

Soon, another footprint appeared under the dry leaves, and less than a meter away from the footprint, another hole appeared under the dry leaves.

"How did this hole get here?"

He carefully examined the dry leaves and finally found traces not far from the hole, about two meters away.

Shinzan Yumi slowly picked up the dry leaves from the hole and sniffed them, detecting a faint, salty smell.

"Sea fish?"

He looked back at the explosion site and then at the small hole, realizing that the wolf dog was tracking the smell of sea fish. This smell was likely left by the enemy using a stick with a sea fish tied to it.

"Souga!"

Shinzan Yumi slowly stood up, knowing that his opponent was skilled at disrupting tracking. Even if more wolf dogs were brought in, they would not be able to accurately track the enemy's movements. If the enemy threw away the stick, the smell would disappear, and the dogs would lose the trail.

He called over a messenger and took the map, carefully examining their current position to determine where the enemy was hiding and where they were heading.

Suddenly, he raised his head and gave the order: "Send a message. Block the road leading from Qitaihe to Laotouzi Mountain, set up defensive positions, and have the search teams connect and set up a net to wait."

After giving the order, he thought for a moment and then called Heian Koshiro, requesting a large-scale encirclement.

Heian Koshiro did not hesitate upon receiving the message and immediately sent a telegram to Commander Nanjirou.

Shortly after, a standard horse-drawn regiment from Jiamusi set off, heading straight for Baoqing.

This Soviet-Russian squad, which had caused significant casualties to the Jiamusi military and civilians, was no longer just an enemy. Nanjirou was determined to eliminate this force, as the gas bombs they possessed posed a significant threat to the troops. Without knowing their next target, and with the Kaitaku Corps settled in Chinese residential areas, there was no guarantee that they would not launch an attack. Only by completely eliminating this squad could they develop the Northeast provinces in peace.

After two hours of travel, Dong Ku suddenly stopped, raised his hand, and squatted down.

The road below the mountain was the highway from Qitaihe to Baoqing. Crossing the road would mean entering the Laotouzi Mountain area, where they would no longer need to worry about being encircled.

He took out his binoculars and observed the road less than a kilometer away.

Shunzi and the others quietly held their guns, half-kneeling on the ground, waiting for the order to attack.

Through the binoculars, figures could be seen in the grass on the other side of the road. The entire road was completely blocked, with no gaps. The Japanese soldiers were lying in wait in the grass, ready to ambush them.

"Damn! So many people!"

Dong Ku cursed silently in his heart. After checking the surroundings, he determined that it was impossible to cross the road. This was not an ambush but a strong defense. They could force their way through, and with his and Shunzi's sniping, they could quickly eliminate the Japanese soldiers within a few dozen meters. However, once the gunfire started, the Japanese reinforcements would arrive, and there would be no chance to break through on the open road.

After careful consideration, Dong Ku abandoned the idea of a strong attack. Even if they used a feint, once their position was exposed, their chances of survival against a large force were almost zero. Their previous success was due to surprise attacks.

"Let's go, be careful and keep hidden. We'll continue forward."

Dong Ku whispered, put away his binoculars, and moved through the bushes towards Baoqing.

At this time, the vanguard of the Jiamusi Japanese forces, led by trucks, was not far from Baoqing. They could arrive in at most two hours and would encircle the mountains near Laolongtou within three hours.

Shinzan Yumi was still steadily searching for traces. He was not in a hurry, as he had plenty of time. Once the large force arrived, they could conduct a thorough search of the mountain forest. He believed that several standard squads could turn the area upside down, and even if the enemy hid in rat holes, they would not escape the search.

On the mountain ridge by the road, Dong Ku and his group had been running for over half an hour. He finally realized that they were in serious trouble.

The continuous presence of Japanese soldiers on the road made it impossible for them to break through.

"It seems the Japanese are really angry..."

Dong Ku put away his binoculars, squinted his eyes, and thought for a moment. Then he waved his hand and gave the order: "We'll return to the mountains and prepare in advance. Otherwise, we'll have to fight a hard battle."

Time slowly passed, and by around 2 PM, the vanguard of the Jiamusi Japanese forces arrived, consisting of about two regiments, all infantry.

The newly arrived Japanese soldiers were ordered to follow Shinzan Yumi's command. After a brief rest, they quickly moved to the ends of the mountain forest to set up the encirclement and entered the forest.

They moved quickly along the central line and, before nightfall, completely cut off the forest between Laolongtou and Baomihé. Although they were not standing shoulder to shoulder, it was clearly impossible to break through.

On the road, piles of wood were prepared, about every few dozen meters. Clearly, this was for lighting the road at night.

Shinzan Yumi did not move. As night approached, he ordered all the squads to camp and wait for the reinforcements from Jiamusi to arrive. They would act the next day.

As night fell, the forest was quiet. Even the animals seemed to sense the tension and hid in the corners and bushes, not daring to make a noise.

On the road, bonfires were blazing, and vehicles were coming and going. The reinforcements from Jiamusi arrived just as night fell, dispersing along the road, entering their designated areas, starting fires, and setting up camp for the night. They would act at dawn the next day.

Although the road was noisy, it was clearly impossible to approach it. Even if they managed to get close to the road and onto it, the Japanese soldiers in the grass on the other side of the road were ordered to prevent anyone from entering the grass.

This was Shinzan Yumi's order to prevent the squad from disguising themselves and slipping through the lines. Each soldier was to follow orders and not consider rank.

Dong Ku and his group, of course, did not know the situation on the road. Moreover, they had no intention of disguising themselves to slip through. This was different from usual; with a large force gathering, if they were discovered, it would be like lambs to the slaughter, with no chance of escape. If it were just him, he could easily pass through by wearing a regular soldier's uniform and using his standard Japanese and knowledge of the Japanese units.

Moreover, they came here to buy time for Liu Zhong and the others. Otherwise, the new recruits' training would be impossible under the Japanese watch.

At this moment, Dong Ku was leading Shunzi and the others in紧张地忙碌着,为即将到来的大规模搜山行动做准备。
