Chapter 32 of 100

Chapter 32

5 min read1,200 words

On a small hill.

The sounds of battle can be heard from just below.

Looking down, it’s the capital of the Felm Kingdom.

Two types of flags are waving vigorously.

“Oh, they’re at it. Just as the reconnaissance reported. The enemy probably doesn’t have any more sorcerers to send out as scouts. This is great, the ambush will definitely succeed.”

“Hey, watch out!”

I saw a sentry soldier turn in our direction and pressed Baltro’s head down.

The soldier quickly averted his gaze.

“Hey, that hurts. You hit my chin on the ground.”

“Come on, let’s hurry and charge.”

Baltro and I descended the hill.

Then we gave the order to the hidden soldiers.

“Alright, form up the entire army.”

At Baltro’s command, the soldiers began to form ranks.

We also formed ranks, following Baltro’s example.

“Hey, why are you guys better at this than us!”

“We’re all like family, so our cohesion is different.”

Forming ranks is easy.

The hard part is moving while maintaining the formation.

Conscripts from peasants have no cohesion, so they need to be trained. But we have it from the start.

“...If we clash, I might lose...”

Baltro muttered, looking at us.

There are three hundred on his side and fifty on ours.

No matter how you look at it, Baltro will win...

“We’ll charge first.”

“Damn...I don’t want you to take all the credit...but you guys are definitely faster...”

Baltro glared at me with regret.

You’ve already taken enough credit.

I don’t think you need to achieve more.

By the way, we’re not leading because we want the credit.

Our lives are more important.

Just, having Baltro’s group in front is a hindrance. In various ways.

We advanced without breaking formation.

We’re close enough to see them. They’ve probably noticed us.

We increased our marching speed.

“Let’s go!! Charge, all units!!”

We started running all at once.

We can’t stop even if we want to, or we’ll be crushed from behind.

They seem to have noticed. Felm’s army began to stir.

The rear ranks are pointing their spears at us.

Are they going to receive us?

Felm’s army, as expected, formed their ranks very quickly.

But...

“Alright, ready the explosive spears!”

I raised the explosive spear I was holding.

One by one, my companions running in the front row with me raised their spears.

“Fire!!”

The spears flew in a parabolic arc and landed on Felm’s army.

The ground shook violently.

The enemy soldiers who were waiting with their spears raised were enveloped in white smoke.

There must be chaos.

Actually, they’re probably dead from direct hits.

“Charge!!”

I kicked my horse’s flanks.

Thanks to the training to get horses used to the sound of explosions, my horse performed as usual.

Rong, Rozward, and Gram rode alongside me.

“We’ll take Felm’s head!!”

I entered the white smoke.

____________

As expected, the enemy was in chaos.

I swung my spear wildly.

The enemy couldn’t form ranks and were just running around.

But finding Felm will be difficult.

Suddenly, a man in luxurious clothing caught my eye.

Not Felm, but definitely an important figure.

“You there! Are you the commander? I’m taking your head!!”

I slammed my spear into the man in luxurious clothing.

“Hmph, this is nothing!!”

He shouted and blocked my spear with his sword...

“Gyah!!”

He was cut in half.

His bronze sword, broken in two, flew through the air.

Sorry.

It’s the difference in weapons, and by extension, the difference in blessings.

If you’re going to blame someone, blame the gods.

“I got it!!”

A strong killing intent from behind.

I turned around to see a soldier raising his sword.

Not good!!

“Die!!”

The soldier fell to the ground, an arrow piercing his forehead.

“Are you okay, Almus?”

Gram approached, bow in hand, with Rong and Rozward behind him.

“Acting on your own is dangerous?”

“Yeah, sorry. Thanks for the help. By the way...”

I stared at the longbow Gram was holding.

“You’re good at using that longbow in the middle of this chaos. And while on horseback.”

“Huh? Is something wrong?”

“No, it’s fine.”

As I stepped back, an enemy soldier charged at Gram.

“Die!!”

“It’s you who will die.”

Gram calmly grabbed the arrow and thrust it into the enemy soldier’s eye.

That must hurt.

By the way, you’re using it wrong.

Use a spear from the start.

“Gram being weird is nothing new. Let’s go find Felm. I’ll go first.”

Rong kicked his horse’s flanks and disappeared into the enemy ranks.

We followed him.

____________

A little while back.

“Damn!! Why is it falling!”

Felm glared at the flag with the As family crest.

There were burn marks on the defensive facilities.

He had left a hundred soldiers behind, and the capital had trenches and fences prepared.

The barriers were supposed to be layered and strengthened.

“I’m sorry. Suddenly, flames...”

“I don’t care about excuses! We need to retake it quickly. We’re going to be caught in a pincer!!”

Felm gave the attack order to all the soldiers.

He had conscripted soldiers along the way, and the number of soldiers had increased to six hundred.

But the morale was low because of it.

“It’s not moving.”

“Why are the As faction’s soldiers so high in morale?”

“I don’t know, I want to know.”

Suddenly, a girl’s image flashed in Felm’s mind.

A girl he had let go in the past.

Could it be...

(No way)

Felm shook off the unpleasant image in his mind.

At that moment.

The rear soldiers began to stir, and the ground shook.

“What’s happening!”

“It’s bad! The Rosais army is coming from behind!!”

“What!?”

Felm panicked for a moment.

But he quickly calmed himself down.

“Order the rear soldiers to counterattack!”

Felm commanded the commander.

He also told his adjutant and the surrounding guards.

“We’re giving up on this country. We’ll seek asylum with King Domorgal and plan a comeback there!”

Felm mounted his horse and galloped off with the guards to leave the battlefield.

But as he started to run, a loud explosion occurred.

Chaos ensued in an instant.

“Damn, the flames and smoke they talked about... What a nuisance!!”

Felm and his men galloped desperately.

The battle lines had already collapsed.

There was no time to buy.

“Hurry!! Before the horses are crushed, guah!!”

The adjutant screamed and fell off his horse.

Felm turned around to see four cavalrymen.

Among them was the young man who called himself Almus.

One by one, the soldiers around Felm were shot down.

Felm stopped.

“You... You’ve really interfered with my dream. You’re coming with me!!”

Felm raised his spear and charged at Almus.

Almus met him with a Damascus steel sword.

Their spears and swords crossed.

“Damn...”

Felm groaned, glared at Almus, and fell.

Almus’ sword was deeply embedded in his abdomen.

“Your mistake was letting Tetrar live. But I’m grateful to her because I met her thanks to you.”

“Ha, as I thought... Was that a mistake...”

Felm laughed, both regretfully and joyfully.

“Make her as happy as you can. The meaning of my letting her go will be lost.”

Felm said that and breathed his last.
