Chapter 1

Waking up in the wide bed with a canopy, the scent of freshly baked bread wafted in from outside the window.

It must be about time for breakfast.

In the Dantes family, a dedicated baker makes bread every morning in the mansion.

This bread, made with special flour, is fragrant and delicious, something you can't easily find elsewhere.

"Good morning, Sedie-sama. I have brought your morning preparations."

Two maids entered the room with a washbasin and change of clothes, smiling brightly.

"Yeah, thank you."

Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I washed my face and put on a pure white shirt without a single wrinkle.

Just then, another servant arrived.

"Good morning. Breakfast is ready."

"Yeah, thank you."

"Breakfast includes your favorite cherries, Sedie-sama."

"They're the first of the season. I'm looking forward to them."

Today, like every other day, would be monotonous but without a single inconvenience.

This was the privilege given to me as the third son of the Dantes family... Oh, someone else is coming.

They seem to be in quite a hurry.

It's rare to hear a servant running down the hallway.

If they did, they would face the wrath of my strict father.

Despite this, the sound of rapid footsteps echoed from the corridor.

It must be something urgent.

The door opened, and one of the butlers, his face flushed, rushed in.

"Sedie-sama, it's terrible! The Earl! The Earl has been in an accident and has passed away!"

"What!?"

Perhaps the world is maintained by a delicate balance.

What seemed like an ordinary daily life can vanish without a trace due to a minor incident.

Just like how, at twelve years old, I was living a life of luxury, but was kicked out of the mansion because of my father's death.

There's a saying that goes:

The sound of the bell at Gion Temple echoes the impermanence of all things.

This is exactly what it means.

Hmm, hmm... Wait, why do I know this phrase?

I don't remember learning it from my tutor.

So why do I know it?

I don't understand, I don't understand, I don't understand...

I wanted to delve deeper into this, but with the funeral and the inheritance to deal with, I had no time to spare.
