Chapter 93

When I woke up, I saw an unfamiliar ceiling. The surroundings were dim, and for a moment, I was dazed, unable to understand what had happened as I stared blankly at the ceiling.
"Are you awake, Miss?"
Tytte's voice came from nearby, and I turned my head toward the sound, feeling a sense of relief.
"Where am I?"
"This is the school infirmary. After you fell asleep, you were brought here. Everyone was in a panic, thinking you had overexerted yourself and collapsed again."
Tytte helped me sit up and poured me a glass of water.
"Thank you. Oh, and what about everyone else?"
I sipped the water slowly and looked around, realizing I was the only one in the bed.
"Lord Zach and Lady Safina received treatment and, despite the prince's objections, returned to the festival. Lady Magilka also woke up a while ago and went back. They all said they would come to check on you later."
"R-really..."
"Everyone is doing well. In contrast, you, who were completely unharmed, have been sleeping soundly until now..."
Tytte's half-lidded eyes made my ears burn, and I averted my gaze while drinking the water.
"By the way, is the festival still going on? After all that commotion?"
"Yes. The queen said that ending the festival in such a state would ruin the fun, so she encouraged everyone to enjoy themselves and leave the aftermath to the adults. She even provided support for the after-party dance. The prince is currently hosting it, and everyone is having a great time with the costumes and food."
"Even after all that commotion, everyone is still in high spirits."
"Fortunately, only a few people had minor injuries that could be healed with recovery magic. I think everyone didn't want to end the festival like this. They wanted to finish on a high note."
"I suppose so..."
I sipped the water thoughtfully.
"To be honest, I'm relieved. If that ultimate move hadn't worked, we would have been in a dire situation, and I might have had to reveal your secret to everyone. It would have been like the beginning of a legendary hero's tale."
"Ha-ha!"
Tytte's words almost made me spit out my water. Honestly, in the heat of the moment, I hadn't even considered that possibility. If I had thought about it, I might have acted alone to avoid putting everyone in danger. I felt disappointed in my carelessness and guilty toward everyone, but at the same time, I was relieved that the worst-case scenario hadn't happened.
"By the way, due to your efforts, you, Lady Magilka, Lord Zach, and Lady Safina will be rewarded. The details will be announced later."
"Really? I don't have to go alone to receive the reward? Yes!"
Despite my earlier gloomy mood, I cheered at the good news.
(Yes, I'm considered one of the heroes. I thought I was done for, being alone. Thank you, God! I'm still safe, right?)
As I silently thanked God, the infirmary door opened, and everyone came in.
"Ah, you're awake, Miss Mary."
The prince led the way, and Magilka and the others came in, looking relieved.
"O-Oh, Prince Raimus."
I hurriedly handed the glass to Tytte and tried to get out of bed, but he raised his hand to stop me.
"You don't have to overexert yourself. I've already told everyone, but they didn't listen."
The prince sighed and looked at the others. I followed his gaze and noticed two things that seemed off.
"I'm glad you're all well."
"Yes, I'm sorry for the worry. By the way, why is Lord Zach looking away with a pout?"
Indeed, the first thing I noticed was that Zach seemed to be in a bad mood.
"Oh, don't worry about it. He's upset because he saw your ultimate move and wants it used on him too."
Magilka answered my question with a bemused expression.
"Ah, using such a powerful move on Zach would have been dangerous."
I felt guilty and bowed my head.
"Ha-ha-ha! No, no, Silver. He's just sulking because he thinks you pulled your punches and failed when it was his turn. He wanted to face the full move head-on. What a bold guy!"
A maid patted Zach's back, who was sulking. The second thing that seemed off was that a familiar face was among them.
"Did you really fail? Safina said you didn't hold back, Miss Mary."
Zach, who had been pushed forward, looked at me with a sulky face.
(Really, this combat-obsessed guy. Give me back my worry.)
"I really did fail. I had no intention of holding back."
When I said this, Zach's face lit up with a smile.
"You change your mood quickly. But I like that. A man shouldn't overthink things."
I felt even more out of place talking to Zach normally. Why was this maid here?
"By the way, why are you here?"
Unable to hold back, I asked the maid, who was actually a princess.
"Oh, right, Mary's maid is different, isn't she? There's something familiar about her?"
Zach nodded, seemingly satisfied with his own conclusion.
"‘Huh?’"
Magilka, the prince, and I looked at Zach in confusion. Safina was just puzzled. We all thought everyone knew her true identity and accepted her.
"…Zach, you didn't realize who this person is, did you?"
"Yeah, she kept talking about you so happily. I thought she was your new maid."
I shuddered at the realization that he had no idea. I extended my trembling hand to introduce her.
"This is Princess Emilia Relirex of the Relirex Kingdom. She's not my maid."
"‘Huh?’"
"Ah, I didn't introduce myself. Sorry, sorry. I got so excited after seeing such an intense battle that I just blurted it out."
Zach and Safina froze at my words. Emilia, however, patted Zach's back again and smiled.
(Ah, Safina thought she was my maid too, didn't she?)
I sighed and looked at Tytte, who was standing with her forehead against the wall, looking down.
"Mary's maid = different… I'm different… a strange maid…"
(Ah, she's taking Zach's words to heart. I'll leave her be for now.)
"I'm very sorry, I didn't realize you were a princess. I spoke rudely."
Zach, recovering from his shock, bowed deeply. Safina followed suit, though she hadn't said anything, it was an apology for her thoughts.
"Ha-ha, it's fine, don't worry about it. I'm in a very good mood right now. You two are interesting, ahem! Fascinating, cough! Anyway, don't worry. I enjoyed watching your battle."
There was something unsettling in his words, but it seemed we had won the favor of this mischievous princess. I had a feeling things were about to get complicated.
"You were so scared and ran away from me…"
"Huh? Oh, that. That was a misunderstanding. It's strange for a silver knight to have a soul. You're not that white devil. So, I don't need to be afraid."
(Ah, I see… Queen, please take her back soon.)
Emilia, picking up on my muttered words, said with a smug look. I stopped thinking too much and just gave a hollow laugh.
"Well, Miss Mary, if you can stand, it would be great if you could join everyone for the last part of the festival."
The prince extended his hand, trying to change the subject.
"Yes, I'll join everyone for the finale."
I felt exhausted but placed my hand in his and got out of bed. We headed to the venue to bring our tumultuous festival to a close.
