Chapter 7 of 10

Chapter 7

5 min read1,327 words

Holding the money box and the unconscious bandit, Dean weaved through the streets of Horn Town. Apart from the detour he had to take to avoid the guards at the town gate and climb over a ten-foot-high fence, the entire process was effortless—Dean had already memorized the patrol routes, making it easy to avoid them.

After leaving Horn Town by several hundred yards, Dean found a small grove and threw the bandit under a tree. As the bandit slowly regained consciousness from the pain, Dean placed his longsword at the bandit's throat.

"If you want to die immediately, shout out loud!"

Dean, with his hood covering his face, deliberately lowered his voice to a deep, sinister tone.

No one wants to die, and this bandit was no exception. Perhaps he would treat others' lives as grass, but his own? He would cherish it dearly.

Therefore, as soon as Dean finished speaking, the bandit raised his hands in surrender.

Of course, giving up so easily is not the style of a bandit!

A cornered rabbit will bite, and a cornered dog will jump over a wall.

People are no exception, especially bandits—

The bandit, with his hands raised, quickly moved his eyes, clearly thinking of something. Dean could guess what he was planning.

After all, according to his memory, the deputy leader of the Central Knight Order had killed four bold bandits in succession. In other words, apart from the one Dean had killed and the one in front of him, there were still two bandits near Horn Town.

And the thing he was looking for was on those two bandits.

Therefore, Dean did not mind if the bandit in front of him called his two companions—this was actually his goal.

Of course, to ensure everything went smoothly, it had to be done his way.

So, the next moment, the bandit felt a chill in his right hand, followed by a piercing pain. Before he could cry out, a mud-covered stone was stuffed into his mouth, suppressing his scream and breaking two of his teeth.

At the same time, the cold sensation appeared on his neck.

Looking down, the bandit saw the longsword at his throat and immediately forced himself to remain silent, shaking his head rapidly. To show his compliance, he raised his bloodied hand again and swallowed the bloody teeth.

Although this action aggravated his finger wound, pain was better than death, right?

Faced with Dean's ruthless approach, the bandit immediately categorized Dean as a true desperado—although he himself was a bandit, he was clearly inferior to someone who acted alone.

After all, he had concerns; he was not alone. But the lone bandit had no such concerns, and any wrong move would result in a fight to the death.

Of course, most of the time, the enemy would die, and the bandit would live.

His dead companion and his severed thumb were the best proof—although he was still alive, losing a thumb on his sword hand significantly reduced his strength, which for a bandit meant the end of his career!

As for continuing?

Sooner or later, he would die, either killed by the guards of his targets or by his own people—a bandit who couldn't even hold a sword would be eliminated without any complaints, and his former companions would be happy to get a larger share.

But that was for later!

Now, he was still under the threat of a longsword at his throat—

"Sir... spare my life..."

The bandit pleaded on the ground.

"I just want to ask you some questions... If you try anything, more than just your thumb will be cut off—losing a thumb means you can't hold a sword, but losing certain parts means you won't even be a man!"

Dean's voice was as cold as the northern snow, making the bandit shiver and instinctively bend over—such a reaction is not shameful for any normal man, and it is even very normal.

"You, you ask, I will tell!"

Although his words were still stammering, the bandit showed more compliance—originally sitting against a tree, he now knelt and prostrated himself before Dean, like a wild animal exposing its belly to humans, showing submission.

"What is your name?"

"Jack!"

"Where are you from, Jack?"

"From the Janelle Manor in Voban County!"

"Oh, what are you doing here?"

"Tr, transaction, a transaction with a fat cat from Emerald City!"

Jack, the bandit, answered Dean's questions without any reservation; even about their mission, he only paused slightly before answering—though it was a false piece of information.

As for the "fat cat"?

It was the bandits' nickname for Ruman Pola, and it had already foreshadowed Ruman Pola's ultimate fate, with only a slight change in the executor.

"Very good, you haven't lied to me..." Dean deliberately paused, then continued, "So, Jack, what do you think Mite will do when he learns of your 'honesty'?"

At the mention of Mite, Jack trembled as if struck by lightning. He immediately looked at Dean pleadingly, saying, "Sir, sir, you, you can't do that—Mite will skin me alive!"

As Jack said, Mite was their leader, with his own underground power in Janelle Manor, Voban County, even the Janelle Baron couldn't ignore him. In Dean's memory, Mite was eventually caught by the deputy leader of the Central Knight Order and hanged on the city wall of Emerald City, serving as another badge of honor for the deputy leader.

However, this did not affect Dean's correct understanding of Mite. Although Mite was eventually hanged, he managed to evade over fifty knights of the Central Knight Order for nearly two weeks, demonstrating his exceptional abilities, especially in dealing with his subordinates, where he was feared.

"See, I didn't say I would 'officially' hand you over to Mite, just that it might happen, as long as you..."

"I will cooperate, I will cooperate, I am willing to serve you!"

Before Dean could finish, Jack immediately said, bowing repeatedly—when Dean mentioned Mite, Jack completely gave up resistance; he could see that the other party knew a lot about him and his people, and that this scene had been planned for a long time.

As for the other party's ultimate goal?

Jack was sure it wasn't him, a small fry—after all, he wasn't worth such a big fuss. With the other party's abilities, he would be a dead body in a ditch the next day if they wanted to.

Therefore, it was obvious that the target was a big figure related to him...

And the only big figure related to him was his leader, 'Wild Fox' Mite.

Clearly, the other party wanted to deal with his leader, and he was just a small fry caught up in it—a small fry who wanted to live!

Therefore, to survive, Jack made his choice without hesitation.

"Very good, then I need a reliable 'oath of allegiance'—I don't believe just words!" Dean, who had anticipated this, continued in a low, sinister tone.

"Of course, of course!"

Jack nodded repeatedly, without any objection—anything was fine as long as he didn't die.

As for what would happen afterward?

Jack, as a bandit, didn't care!

He knew that if he didn't comply now, he would surely die, but if he complied, he could live, even if only for a little longer, which was infinitely better than dying immediately.

Therefore, Jack showed an extraordinary level of compliance.

And Dean was secretly satisfied with such compliance.

However, on the surface, Dean showed no change, remaining as ruthless and sinister as ever—having the memory of his past, Dean knew very well how to deal with these bandits.

They feared those who were visibly cruel and terrifying, not those who were gentle and kind.

The former would make them obedient and compliant.

The latter?

Would only make them raise their knives and plunder everything they saw.
