It was undeniable that they were going to stay together.

While Zhou Bai and his father were talking about this neighbourhood and that villa, Jian Ci did not pay attention to them, neither was he aware where those places were. Anyway, whatever Zhou Bai said, all he had to do was just to nod in agreement.

As their conversation ended, Father Zhou did not seem at all appeased. After tossing them a “do as you deem fit”, he turned away and ignored them.

When they were leaving the hospital, Jian Ci asked Zhou Bai, “Are we going to stay together?”

“What do you think?” Zhou Bai looked at him with narrowed eyes.

“Then… then let’s move in together,” Jian Ci listened to him and went with the flow.

Zhou Bai was calm behind the wheel. As he approached a bend, the way he naturally turned the steering wheel was as smooth as flowing waters, exposing an exquisite cufflink near his wrist. His attractive side-profile carved out a distinct silhouette, showing off a high nose bridge and a slightly pursed lips which magnified his impressive presence. Jian Ci fell into a trance as he stared at him from the side. Sure enough, a man behind the wheel is a charismatic man.

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing…” Jian Ci was pulled back to reality. “Are our cufflinks in the same design? They look really similar.”

Zhou Bai tightened his pursed lips, not giving him a response.

Jian Ci did not pursue the matter to avoid making a fool out of himself.

After some time had passed, Zhou Bai spoke, “I’ll be buying another apartment.”

“Hm?” Jian Ci did not understand.

“I said, I’ll buy another apartment. I won’t let you stay where my previous wife used to live.”

Jian Ci was startled. “There’s no need to, I don’t mind at all, there’s no need to waste such money.”

“My previous wives, one died more tragically than the other. Are you not afraid that their spirits would seek vengeance?” Zhou Bai scoffed.

To be honest, Jian Ci did tremble at the thought. Especially that female celebrity whose death was exposed by witnesses who uploaded them online. It was a gruesome death where her body was mangled and mutilated. He had seen the picture on the internet, and it left a deep impression on him. However, more than being frightened, he felt pitiful.

The passing of Zhou Bai’s ex-wives – one a gentle woman, daughter of a wealthy family, and the other a glamorous woman, who was really popular – left many feeling sorrowful. But as for the two apartments, they were innocent, and the deceased did not live their last breaths in those houses. And Jian Ci could not be more innocent. He was not a murderer who caused their deaths, so it was impossible for any spirits to seek revenge on him.

Hence, he expressed his reasonings, “I have nothing against it. Since our marriage was done in a haste, even if we got a new house, the renovations would be time and effort consuming. There’s no need to go through all that trouble.”

“The house can be signed under your name,” Zhou Bai added.

“If that’s the case, let me think about it. I want to buy a four-storey villa, with a ten thousand square meter courtyard.”

“…”

“Is that possible?” Jian Ci laughed.

“Dad feels that used apartments would bring bad luck,” Zhou Bai was oblivious to his joke, and made a decision with regards to this matter, “move to my apartment for the time being. It’s just in the city.”

“Is it convenient?”

“Yes, you’ll take the guest room.”

“Sure,” Jian Ci was nonchalant, “I get to live in your apartment for free, and I even get my own room. Mister Zhou, it’s really a blessing to marry you. So are you really not considering buying me a four-storey villa?”

Zhou Bai turned away to look at the wing mirror, hiding the smile that was creeping up the sides of his mouth.
