Up till this point, Zhou Bai wished to never recall what happened that night.
He would never admit again, how he was at the edge of crumbling when he heard the word “pain” in Jian Ci’s voice, how terrible his heart felt as if someone was tearing it apart.
How much of an emotional trauma the death of his two ex-wives had left him, that at that point, his mind was filled with various scenarios, practically creating a season of ‘Final Destination’ on his own.
But this time, he could not accept the possibility of “Jian Ci dying”.
As he got up too quickly, he severely knocked his knee onto the edge of the table, but it was as if Zhou Bai could not feel anything at all.
Until Jian Ci managed to coherently tell him what had happened, and gave him his current location, Zhou Bai was able to return to reality. The sensations in his limbs slowly returned, and he finally responded the way he was supposed to.
He called the hospital while heading downstairs to look for Jian Ci.
Where Jian Ci was located was not far from home, and when Zhou Bai found him, he was sitting by the entrance of the alley with bruises all over his face and body, a hand covering the area right below his ribs. The air was still filled with a faint smell of blood.
Zhou Bai’s lips trembled, unable to speak.
Yet Jian Ci could still pull his lips up into a smile for him, “It’s going to be fine…”
Zhou Bai speed walked towards him, picking Jian Ci up carefully, his eyes all red, and sped him all the way to the hospital with his car.
That slash from the knife did not harm his internal organs, but it was deep, so he had to have a tetanus jab and stitches. Additionally, Jian Ci suffered injuries to his soft tissues, and he needed to have a good rest for recovery.
Under Zhou Bai’s strict care, Jian Ci stayed in the hospital for a few days, and even after removing the stitches, he had to continue his rest and recovery at home.
It was not difficult to locate the culprit, and Zhou Bai identified the young man, found at small county town a few ten kilometres away. He did not deal with him immediately by handing him over to the police; he was not as kind as Jian Ci.
Wasn’t he seeking for a person and money?
Zhou Bai got someone to meet him and lead him into a high-end clubhouse, before teaching him how to gamble and even lent him money when he lost in gambles. And when he couldn’t repay his debts, he had two choices; to sell his kidney, or compensate with his body.
We choose our own paths in life, and who could we blame?
