After a day of travel,格林 finally learned that the mysterious wizard's name was Alvoritz, and the destination of this journey was a wizard academy called Lili's Cottage. This wizard academy was very far away, requiring at least two months of sailing on the high seas.
"Before we reach the Zelato Harbor, we will visit two more cities. During this time, if you have any basic magic questions, I can answer them for you once for free," the wizard Alvoritz said slowly to the group of seven.
After a day of observation,格林 found that among the six wizard apprentices, the one closest to the great wizard was Kielan. It was only natural, as this guy had practically become Alvoritz's servant, running around and serving the wizard so well that he had received several favors from the wizard.
However, this guy was extremely disliked by the other five wizard apprentices because his smug and arrogant attitude was all too evident, looking down on others as if he were superior to the other apprentices.
"Sir, you are truly great. The mental meditation technique you taught me the day before yesterday is too profound and obscure, and I still haven't figured it out..." Kielan, carrying a large bundle filled with the wizard's miscellaneous items, was the closest to the wizard and thus the first to ask for guidance.
Wade, who also wanted to ask the wizard a question, cursed under his breath, "You dog, you're just a slave." He pursed his lips and silently followed behind.
Jocris and his sister Joclyana walked behind, watching the two in front of them vying to get closer to the great wizard to ask questions. Jocris sneered, "Hmph, two foolish guys with no magical talent. Once we get to the academy and I become a great wizard, they'll be nothing but my footlickers."
Joclyana remained silent, seemingly a woman with no will of her own.
格林 did not rush to the front to compete for the chance to ask the wizard a question.格林 had two questions he truly wanted to know, but the wizard only allowed one question. What caught格林's attention even more was the wizard's mention of "free." In other words, did this mean that usually, wizard apprentices had to pay to ask the wizard questions?
To cherish this free opportunity,格林 thought for a moment and focused his gaze on Raphi, who was sulking at the back of the group.
This girl was the daughter of the mayor of Bissel City, but she had been forced by her father to go to Lili's Cottage. She was the only one among the six wizard apprentices who did not voluntarily become a wizard apprentice. Perhaps she knew more about the wizard academy than the others.
格林's two most pressing questions were: what the wizard world was really like, and why wizards could wield mysterious magical powers. The second question seemed too profound, but the first question, the daughter of the mayor, must know something about it.
Thus,格林 quietly approached Raphi.
"The wizard world?" Raphi, who was in a state of sorrow, glanced at格林 in surprise. When格林 approached, Raphi, who had experienced much, thought格林 wanted to get close to her. After all, such things were common among the nobility, and as the mayor's daughter, she had experienced countless "accidental" encounters.
However, while Raphi disliked the nobles who tried to get close to her, she disliked the commoners even more. If it were any other time, Raphi would not have given格林 a good face. But thinking about the life ahead...
Biting her lip, seeing格林's face full of longing, Raphi's beautiful face showed sadness as she sighed, "Actually, the wizard world is not as wonderful as you think. First of all, all the status you have now will be useless in the wizard world because you might never be able to return."
格林 was greatly shocked. Never be able to return? Was it imprisonment?
Seeing that格林 seemed to be thinking the wrong way, Raphi said softly, "Anyway, before we become formal wizards, we will live forever in a place called the Wizard Continent. It is an incredibly vast land, larger than you can imagine. There, wizards are the supreme beings, or rather, the power they wield is supreme. Everyone will do anything to become a stronger wizard, and coldness and cruelty are the true faces of wizards..."
Half a day later,格林 was deeply shocked by everything Raphi said. If the wizard world was really like Raphi described, it was indeed not as wonderful as he had imagined...
"In short, in the wizard world, if you have no power, no magic stones, and no background, it's best to always be low-key. Otherwise, death will be a common occurrence," Raphi said coldly.
格林 swallowed hard. After a long time, he finally began to slowly accept this harsh reality, even hesitating about whether to quit.
After all, the wizard world Raphi described was truly terrifying, where human life seemed worthless. A small wizard apprentice like himself might be erased from existence by a powerful being at any moment.
He was just a commoner who had never seen the world.
Seeing格林's frightened look, Raphi did not want to further打击 this guy. She shook her head and said, "Of course, the wizard world is not as terrifying as you imagine. The wizard world has its own rules, and those who control these rules are the top wizard academies with unimaginable power."
Following the group silently, after a long silence,格林 finally raised his head, his gaze determined. If he really retreated out of fear, he might live a comfortable life, but he would also lose the only chance to truly see a wondrous world!
Moreover, thinking about the old butler's face at the viscount's mansion, how he and old Ham were bullied by the knights, and now as a wizard apprentice, even the high and mighty mayor had to treat him well, the difference was...
Seeing格林's determined gaze, Raphi sneered, "Fortunately, you made the right choice. I bet if you told Alvoritz you wanted to quit, he would dispose of you with a flick of his wrist. Yes, look, like that over there."
格林 and Raphi were already at the back of the group. Following Raphi's finger,格林 was instantly horrified. Just ahead, the bodies of seven or eight ragged bandits lay scattered, their eyes filled with fear. The wizard had acted so quickly that格林 had not even realized the group was under attack until the bandits were mostly dead.
Boom!
A seven-meter-tall red-eyed frog fell from the sky, landing on the last fleeing bandit, and with a squish, the bandit became a bloody mess. Jocris, who was asking the wizard a question, was completely stunned, his legs trembling uncontrollably.
格林 also felt his legs go weak. He knew his face must look terrible, not much better than Jocris's. Raphi, though her face was not good, remained relatively calm.
Gurgle...
The frog shrank and jumped onto Alvoritz's hand. The wizard continued leading the group as if nothing had happened.
More than half an hour later,格林 respectfully stood beside the wizard to ask his question.
"The principle of how wizards wield magical power? Hmm, that's a good question," the wizard actually praised格林, then added, "Very good!"
格林 looked at the wizard in surprise.
"I have guided many wizard apprentices, and over 90% of them asked me to teach them killing spells, neglecting the essence of being a wizard. The remaining 10% asked all sorts of random, unstructured questions. No one has ever asked a question that penetrates to the essence like yours."
Penetrate to the essence? What essence did I see?
格林 was puzzled.
Alvoritz then directly threw a book to格林: "To answer your question, I'll borrow a phrase from a great wizard: 'Give me infinite knowledge, and I will use myself as a fulcrum to move the infinite world.' That's it. For wizards, true power is the knowledge they possess and their own magic. However, ultimately, you will find that the source of all a wizard's power is the knowledge they possess. This 'Meditation Guide' is a gift from me, containing some of my insights."
格林 held the 'Meditation Guide' in a daze, his eyes filled with disbelief.
"Using one's magic as a fulcrum and infinite knowledge as a lever to move the infinite world? Since both one's magic and knowledge are the foundation of a wizard's power, why did Alvoritz say that knowledge is the source of all a wizard's power?"
One question after another left格林 somewhat dazed. But seeing that Alvoritz had already walked far ahead, seemingly only willing to answer one question per person,格林 did not dare to pursue more questions.
What格林 did not realize was that if these questions could be answered, they would be the knowledge of the wizard world.
