Tang Huan heaved a deep sigh and looked at the Peach Forest nearby. It was already dawn; why hadn’t she seen Song Mo yet?

Forget it. She should return soon. Breakfast was almost ready. Even if her breakfast was just steamed buns, she still wanted to eat!

Tang Huan picked up the buckets and walked back leisurely.

The mountain road was winding, with tree twigs protruding from time to time. Tang Huan walked cautiously; she was out of breath.

As she walked, she heard the sound of footsteps.

Could it be Song Mo?

After staring at the corner in front and thinking for a while, Tang Huan put down the water buckets and sat at the roadside. She then hugged her knees, buried her face in her hands, and gently sobbed. It would have been preferable if the person walking this way was Song Mo, but even if it wasn’t him, it didn’t take much effort to act anyway.

So when Song Mo came around with two gray rabbits in his hands, he saw a little nun in a gray robe hiding in the shadow of a tree by the roadside, looking like she was crying.

He only cast a glance at her before averting his gaze in a panic.

The nuns were all dressed similarly. Song Mo didn’t know who that nun was, but somehow he was reminded of the little nun from the night before. The little nun who caused him to toss and turn all night, unable to fall asleep.

Song Mo pursed his lips and walked straight ahead without glancing sideways.

It didn’t matter who she was. He’d simply go on his way. They have nothing to do with each other.

As the distance shrank, Song Mo couldn’t help but walk faster.

Although Tang Huan covered her eyes, she could see the man’s trouser legs and cloth shoes through the crack in her fingers.

Song Mo was the only man living nearby. The incoming person was most likely him.

Just when the man was about five steps away from her, Tang Huan rubbed her eyes and stood up, acting like she was going to continue walking uphill. However, when she was picking up the second bucket, she ‘unintentionally’ noticed him. “Donor Song?” The bucket she was holding fell to the ground with a thud , and the clear water splashed down the mountain.

“Ah…”

Tang Huan anxiously picked up the bucket that was still rolling down, but accidentally tripped and fell forward.

Song Mo couldn’t resist taking a step forward. His hand was already stretched out, but he hesitated and didn’t help her in the end.

Tang Huan successfully fell on her heels.

She was surprised. She didn’t expect that the man who was so kind to her the day before wouldn’t help her today. However, she quickly changed her strategy. With one hand on the ground and the other hand holding her ankle, and only her side profile facing Song Mo, she blushed. “I am so clumsy, embarrassing myself in front of Donor Song.” Her voice reflected the shyness and uneasiness at seeing him, as well as the nervousness of embarrassing herself in front of him.

Although Song Mo held back from helping her, his eyes still followed the little nun as she fell, fearing that she would roll down the mountain. When Song Mo saw that she had only tripped, he was about to turn away when he heard her say that.

His eyes froze.

The bright morning sunlight passed through the tree leaves and shone down on her. Under her gray nun’s hat, her cheeks appeared fairer and more delicate. Because she was facing sideways, Song Mo could only see her long eyelashes, lightly bitten red lips, elegant chin, and slender neck.

Song Mo didn’t know if it was because of her shy and pitiful expression or her gentle and soft voice, but his heartbeat quickened.

Why did he always feel strange around this little nun?

“You…are you alright?”

It seemed bad to leave right away, but he didn’t know what else to say, and after a long silence, he was only able to force out this sentence. But as soon as he asked, she started crying. She didn’t move, still staying in the same position from when she fell just now, but her long eyelashes flickered a few times, and Song Mo saw translucent tears falling from her face.

Her reaction was so unexpected that Song Mo was at a loss as to what to do.

“Did you get hurt?” Song Mo felt a little guilty. After all, he deliberately held back from helping her just now.

“No…” Tang Huan stood up slowly, turning her back to Song Mo and wiping her eyes as she said with a crying voice, “I’m fine, Donor Song. Please go on your way.”

Song Mo didn’t say anything, thinking about how she had previously cried and how she was crying now. Did she get bullied?

He wanted to ask, but he was afraid that she would think too much. After some consideration, Song Mo decided not to have too many entanglements with her and left.

Tang Huan was dumbfounded. She was playing hard to get 1 , waiting for Song Mo to come over and ask her. Why did he really leave?

Should she stop him and make him ask her?

No way, that would be too humiliating!

Should she just let him go like that?

Tang Huan would vomit blood. She wasted a bucket of water and put on an act for nothing!

She gritted her teeth and stared at the back of the indifferent man, her gaze eventually falling on the rabbits that were still struggling in his hand.

“Donor Song!” She hurriedly chased after him.

Song Mo paused. He turned his head sideways but didn’t turn his body towards her.

Tang Huan timidly took a glance at him, then looked at the two rabbits with pity and whispered, “Donor Song, did you just hunt these rabbits down?”

Song Mo’s heart was still in turmoil over her timid glance, and when he heard her question, he casually replied, “No, I just saw them caught in a cage under the fence while patrolling the forest.”

Tang Huan sighed lightly and blushed. “Since they had not been hunted down by you, c-can you give them to me? I-I think they are really pitiful…” She mustered the courage to raise her head, and when she saw Song Mo looking at herself in surprise, she shook her head and said, “Well, if you are unwilling, I won’t force you…g-goodbye!“

She turned around, wanting to run away, like a child afraid of being scolded.

But then a strong arm blocked her path, and Tang Huan looked at Song Mo in confusion.

Song Mo didn’t look back at her. “Here you go,” he said. It was indeed inappropriate to hunt rabbits in front of a little nun.

Tang Huan took over the two heavy rabbits and smiled sincerely. “Donor Song is a good person.”

Song Mo’s face heated up, and he hurriedly left.

Tang Huan looked at his leaving figure, lowered her head and caressed the rabbits, thinking that she didn’t have to worry about food for the next two or three days, and finally feeling much better.

Eat first, and then ‘pick’ him!

The author has something to say: I changed the number of water tanks in the last chapter from 8 to 4, hehe, Tang Huan will have to work for 8 hours if she does it by herself! As for whether she can find someone to help with the labour work, that’s all up to her~

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, muacks~

T/N: Since this is a historical novel, they use 时辰 (Shichen) as a measure of time. I converted them to the modern time measurement for ease of reading. Hope it’s not too jarring…
