Song Mo was aware that his niece was being coquettish with him, but he couldn’t say no.
Whether she simply saw him as a grown-up or had other thoughts, he couldn’t bear to see her suffer.
In the past, his niece was gentle, sensible, and seldom asked him for anything. Now that she had become more reliant and closer to him because of those changes, he found himself helpless in the face of her tears and pleas.
But he was happy in his heart.
The soup was bubbling in the pot. Song Mo got up and lifted the door curtain. When he saw his niece lying on her side with her eyes closed, he asked her in a low voice, “Jinzhi, the noodles will be ready soon. Do you want to sit up now?”
Tang Huan looked at him and shook her head. “Please move the bench here, sit down, and feed me, Uncle. My stomach hurts, so I want to lie down.”
“Okay.”
The curtain was lowered again.
Tang Huan was really in a lot of pain, so when Song Mo willingly took meticulous care of her and pampered her, although the main reason was because of her current identity as Jinzhi, she still felt happy and fortunate. Familial relationships were wonderful. She wondered if she could still enjoy such benefits in the subsequent dreams.
Song Mo soon entered the room, carrying a large bowl.
The thin, long, and chewy hand-rolled noodles were topped with a soft, golden, and white poached egg. The steaming hot soup, garnished with green onion, looked delectable.
Tang Huan propped her elbows on the bed stove and waited for the man to sit in front of her before sincerely praising him, “Uncle is capable and a good cook. My future aunt is really lucky.”
Song Mo spread an old cloth on the bed stove and set the large bowl on it. “Eat properly,” he admonished her resignedly as he picked a mouthful of noodles for her to blow. “Uncle has to go to the field after breakfast. I don’t have time to listen to your nonsense.”
This tone of an elder lecturing a child really made her lose her appetite!
Tang Huan gave a dry laugh and lowered her head to eat the noodles he had picked up.
Song Mo hurriedly moved his chopsticks away from her and said, “It’s still hot. Blow it before you eat it.”
“Uncle, blow it for me.” Tang Huan leaned against a pillow next to her and gazed up at him. “I’m out of strength, Uncle. Help me blow, pleaseeee?”
She was becoming more and more childish. Why hadn’t he noticed how much she enjoyed acting coquettish in the past?
Song Mo shook his head and helped her blow on the noodles.
Tang Huan grinned. This silly uncle!
When he brought her the noodles again, she leaned over and took a big mouthful. One of the noodles was relatively long, and it took a long time for her to suck it all into her mouth.
He didn’t know if it was because the noodles were hot or because of the soup, but after she took a bite, her lips were red, tender, and moist.
Song Mo’s heart was pounding like a drum as he fed her another mouthful.
Tang Huan wasn’t even thinking of seducing him. She had no idea how alluring she appeared at the time. After she had finished about half of the noodles, she asked Song Mo to feed her the egg.
“Are you full already?”
Song Mo had discovered two days ago that his niece preferred to save the eggs for last.
Tang Huan gave a nod. “I’m stuffed.”
Song Mo persuaded her to eat more, but Tang Huan refused. Having no other choice, after feeding her the egg, Song Mo went to the kitchen with the bowl and ate the rest of the noodles without hesitation.
Food should not be wasted.
After packing up, Song Mo closed the door of the yard and went to the fields.
When he passed by the Zhang family’s field, he saw Aunt Zhang plucking wheat. Their family of six was already in the field.
Song Mo wanted to thank her for the help, but because it was related to his niece’s privacy, after some hesitation, he decided to pretend he didn’t know about it.
Time passed by quickly, and before he knew it, it was already noon. Song Mo wiped away his sweat and was about to return home to cook for his niece when he noticed her walking in the field in an old plain white dress with a basket on her arm.
He anxiously walked over to her. “Why didn’t you just stay home and rest? Didn’t Uncle tell you that I’d make lunch today?”
Tang Huan walked to the shade beside the stack of harvested wheat, sat down, and replied to him ingratiatingly, “Uncle, don’t worry. Your niece is feeling much better now, so it’s all right. Uncle has so much wheat to harvest by yourself. I can’t help you with that, so how could I even let Uncle do chores like this? Uncle, quickly sit down and eat.”
When dealing with men, one should not simply act coquettishly and let the other party pamper them. They should occasionally allow their men to feel the goodness of their women, so that the men would continue to treat them well willingly. If a woman took a man’s contribution for granted and only enjoyed the treatment without giving back, the man might not mind if he was still smitten with her at the time. However, after a long time, especially if the man encountered another woman who was considerate and gentle, it was very likely for him to have a change of heart.
Tang Huan certainly wasn’t worried that her uncle would have a change of heart, but she had to let him know that no matter how coquettish she acted towards him or how much she liked to tease him, she was still his good and gentle niece. Look how virtuous she was, even sending him food when she was having menstrual cramps! No matter how much he complained, he must have been touched.
Song Mo was indeed touched, but his heart ached even more.
“Jinzhi, never mind this time, but wait for Uncle to cook dinner later, okay?” He wanted to give her the best possible care.
“All right. I’ll wait for Uncle to return.”
Tang Huan readily agreed, and in the evening, she lit a fire and began cooking around the time she estimated Song Mo to return home.
She just wanted to make him feel bad!
They went to bed after washing up.
