Zu An was confused. He didn’t know that the Yellow Turban Army had a saintess. Zhang Jiao was the Taiping Sect’s ‘Great Teacher’; there was no reason for him to appoint a saintess to split his power.

Over a thousand soldiers were gathered at the square outside, each wearing a yellow turban. They held torches that kept the darkness at bay while bowing zealously toward a carriage. Like devout worshipers meeting their deity, their reverence was almost palpable.

A gentle wind lifted the carriage’s curtain, revealing a female silhouette sitting within. The woman wore a veil, which seemed to be an artifact that concealed her appearance. Not even Zu An’s Eye of Truth could see through it; he could only sense her beauty and purity.

She wore a white silk robe that glowed faintly under the surrounding torches. There was only faint silver cloud embroidery on the collars and the sleeves, which could hardly be seen unless one took a close look. A thin silver chain hung from her waist, tinkling faintly like a distant wind chime as she waved to her worshipers.

All the Yellow Turban Army’s soldiers fell to their knees, displaying absolute subservience. It was as if someone had stripped these men of their ferocity; they pressed their foreheads firmly against the ground out of reverence. Many were trembling out of excitement. Murmurs of ‘Saintess’ simultaneously came from several thousand mouths, forming a powerful sound wave that reverberated in the night sky.

Zu An was baffled. It feels like I’m watching ‘The Pig, the Snake, and the Pigeon’.

He examined the woman in the carriage with curious eyes. He couldn’t help noticing that the saintess’s disposition was at odds with the feral battlefield.

Her eyebrows were long but faint, as if they were drawn with a single brush stroke. Her lowered gaze radiated compassion. Her eyes resembled lakes of unfathomable depths, exuding an air of composure and enigma.

But what stood out the most was the item in her hand. It was neither a weapon nor an artifact, but a bamboo scroll. She held it tightly before her chest as if she were clutching onto a sacred item.

Her fingers were slender and fair. She gently tapped on the bamboo scroll with her nails, seemingly ready to unfurl it at any moment. Otherwise, it was as if she’d been hugging it to immerse herself in the peace it brought her. Despite being surrounded by zealots, she felt more like a noblewoman who unwittingly stumbled into the vicious battlefield and wanted to find a peaceful corner where she could read her book.

Zu An found the woman extremely familiar, but he struggled to identify her due to her veil.

He turned to Ni Huang and asked, “Who is she?”

Ni Huang replied, “She’s our boss’s daughter, Zhang Ning.”

“Zhang Ning?” Zu An murmured the name, but it remained foreign to him. “Didn’t you say that she’s someone I know well?”

“I’ll let her tell you in person.” Ni Huang grinned.

Zu An gritted his teeth in annoyance. Looks like I’ll have to punish her a bit more.

Just then, the saintess looked over and noticed Zu An. Her body trembled, and her eyes gleamed with a multitude of emotions. She wanted to run up to him, but she forced herself to remain rational. She calmly encouraged her worshipers. Soon, the soldiers, who had been in low spirits from recent defeats, regained their morale.

Amazed, Zu An remarked to Ni Huang, “It almost feels like she commands greater prestige within the Yellow Turban Army than you.”

Ni Huang replied, “She is of a higher position.”

Zu An was stunned. In the Yellow Turban Army’s command chain, Ni Huang was only second to Zhang Jiao. Zu An couldn’t comprehend how this lady could be of a higher stature than her.

Ni Huang didn’t bother explaining. She led him forward to welcome the saintess, proclaiming that she wanted to discuss the upcoming battle with her. Only then did the zealous worshipers step aside.

The saintess led them to the commander’s tent. She had long black hair that cascaded down her back, contrasting sharply against her white robe. It felt like she was from a painting. Her hair rustled upon the tug of the night wind. Occasionally, a strand or two would cover her face, and she would gracefully tuck them behind her ear. Her movements were so gentle that it felt as if she was touching a treasure.

Zu An’s curiosity intensified. He tried telepathically asking the saintess about her identity, but the latter simply ignored him. He couldn’t help but worry. Could Ni Huang have been fooled?

Upon entering the commander’s tent, Ni Huang ordered the others to step down.

As soon as the curtain was lowered, the reticent saintess suddenly leaped into Zu An’s arms and said, “Big brother Zu, guess who I am.”

Her voice had been clear and lofty earlier when she addressed her worshipers, but now, it was tinged with mischief.

Zu An embraced her. He finally understood why she didn’t respond. “You’re my good Ling’er!”

The saintess raised her head and looked up at him in surprise. “How did you know? The Deity of Memory used a time river to weave this veil. It should have protected me from any probing.”

Zu An replied with a smile, “How can I not recognize your body? Even with my eyes closed, I can still recognize your body with a touch.”

As one of the beneficiaries of his miraculous hands, Xie Daoyun’s face immediately reddened. “You’re terrible~”

Zu An took off her veil and looked at her serene face. Her lips were faintly tinted like a spring flower that had yet to bloom. Seeing that, he couldn’t resist kissing them.

Xie Daoyun moaned as she passionately reciprocated his gesture.

This continued a while before a cough broke the atmosphere. “Are you done yet? Have you forgotten that I’m here as well?”

Zu An was thick-skinned enough to shrug it off, but the embarrassed Xie Daoyun hurriedly pushed him away.

“Little sister Ling’er, what’s going on? Why are you so revered in the Yellow Turban Army? They seem to respect you even more than the Earth Duke General,” Zu An finally voiced the doubt in his mind.

Xie Daoyun replied with a smile, “That’s because I created Zhang Jiao and his siblings.”

Zu An was bewildered.
