"Xiaodai, this one is Dongfeng, but I don't recognize the other dogs anymore." Qiping walked out of the bedroom and saw his chubby and adorable nephew sitting on the small floor in the living room.
Qiping laughed. Dongfeng was a black dog, of course, the easiest to recognize. Actually, distinguishing puppies is quite simple; familiar ones are no problem, but unfamiliar people can easily get confused. After all, when people look at dog faces, face blindness is quite normal, just like how Qiping used to think all foreigners looked similar.
"The one with more black spots on its nose is Nanfeng. Look at Xifeng; its mouth is the longest. As for Beifeng, the large patch of black fur on its back, that's Beifeng." Qiping sat on the ground, happily studying the puppies with his chubby nephew. Qiping felt that it wasn't necessary to use the fact that Nanfeng and Beifeng are female dogs as a way to distinguish them.
"Xiaodai, the dogs don't like me; they won't play with me." The chubby nephew was a bit depressed. Although he wanted to play with the puppies as soon as he got home, the puppies, while not aggressive, would run away every time he got close. Now, with the help of his grandmother, he finally managed to catch Dongfeng, but Dongfeng didn't seem happy being held.
"They don't know you yet. Give it some time. Benshen is cute and kind; the dogs will like Benshen." Qiping smiled and said to his chubby nephew. The four dogs—Dongfeng, Nanfeng, Xifeng, and Beifeng—were very close to Qiping, but their attitude towards Qiping's family and friends was rather indifferent. After all, they weren't familiar yet, so this was to be expected.
"I understand. I didn't know Xiaodai yesterday, but I know Xiaodai today. The dogs don't know me today, but they will know me tomorrow." Benshen was happy, finally finding an answer.
Qiping was about to nod, but then he heard his older brother chuckle. Qiping immediately understood and felt embarrassed. It turned out that in Benshen's eyes, he and the four puppies were treated the same!
"Children speak without reserve, children speak without reserve!" Qiping could only laugh awkwardly. This was indeed a helpless situation. Little kids always say some innocent things, but they can also make adults feel awkward.
The family enjoyed a pleasant breakfast, and Qiping felt he had a great deal. His mother's arrival meant he didn't have to go into the kitchen; now he could eat ready-made meals. However, his mother did have one suggestion: the farm was a bit remote, and buying groceries would be inconvenient. Although Qiping, like many Americans, bought enough food for several days and stored it in the refrigerator, his mother thought this wasn't fresh.
"Older brother can drive. Let him drive. If there's nothing to do at my farm, I'll take Benshen horseback riding." After breakfast, the family couldn't sit still and decided to go see the farm, especially the vegetables that were growing well.
"Alright, but you have to take good care of him. The little guy is a bit mischievous." Qilei smiled. If Benshen wanted to ride a horse, then let him ride. There was no need to be so formal when the family was together. As for the issue of not having a driver's license in America, this wasn't a problem on the farm; just drive slowly.
Benshen was undoubtedly the happiest. Although he couldn't ride in the car with his parents, he could ride a horse with Xiaodai, which was the most exciting thing for the little guy. Of course, Qiping had to ride the horse first, and then his older brother would hand Benshen over.
"Benshen, don't be mischievous. We'll walk slowly." Seeing his nephew's excited red face and his joyful shouts, Qiping was a bit worried. He had underestimated the mischievousness of little boys.
Although living in an environment rich in spiritual energy and consistently practicing, Qiping's physical fitness had greatly improved. However, this didn't mean he could immediately become a skilled horseman. Riding with a little boy was fine, but the boy's mischievousness might make it a bit difficult.
Although they had flown a long distance and needed to consider the time difference, it was clear that a good night's sleep in a place rich in spiritual energy had left them feeling exceptionally refreshed. This allowed Qiping to enjoy his mother's delicious home-cooked breakfast in the morning and to happily take the family to see the vegetable garden.
"Son, let me tell you, your place is far from the market. Going out to buy groceries will be inconvenient. Raise some old hens at home. You won't need to go to the market for eggs, and with such a good environment, the taste will be better than those from the market." Qiping was riding with his well-behaved nephew, but this didn't mean they couldn't talk. His mother was chatting with him.
"I understand. I plan to set up a small farm to raise some chickens and ducks. The environment here is good, and the vegetables and weeds grow well. I can't use pesticides on the right side, so everything has to be done by hand. I might need to hire more people soon." Qiping was being honest. Managing over 100 acres of land with four farm workers was quite a challenge.
"How much do you pay? I'll work for you." Qi Weihui was in a good mood, seeing his younger son develop so smoothly here, which made him feel completely at ease.
"The weekly salary is around $300 to $400, plus some bonuses." Qiping said, which was a fairly normal price.
"Wow, that's over 6,000 to 7,000 yuan a month. That's a great deal. I'll work for you. I'll go back to the village and help you recruit workers. A monthly salary of 3,000 to 4,000 yuan is about right, and you provide food and accommodation." Qi Weihui whistled; the price was indeed too high.
Qiping laughed and joked with his family. He knew this was a joke from his father, who was in a good mood. His father wouldn't come to live in America, due to his attachment to his hometown and his concern for his precious grandson. As for his younger son, although there was a saying that the younger son and the eldest grandson are the old man's life, it was clear that the eldest grandson was now the most important in the family, a little sun that everyone doted on and loved.
When they arrived at the farm, seeing the thriving vegetable garden and the fresh vegetables, even Qi Weihui, who had been a farmer for most of his life, marveled at how well the vegetables were growing. This made him even more determined that this piece of land was a treasure and could not be sold, no matter how much money was offered.
Qiping didn't disturb Huang Siquing and the others who were busy working. Being from a farming background, they recognized the vegetables. The vegetable garden was indeed very busy, with weeding and pest control, and setting up trellises for the green beans and tomatoes. The vegetables were growing so well, but this wasn't entirely a good thing; for Huang Siquing and the others, it was too busy!
Seeing the thriving vegetables, Qi Weihui was completely at ease. The vegetables were growing well, which meant his younger son had found a gold mine here. The development was good and worth looking forward to.
"I still have a few professors doing research here. Those old rascals have been studying for a while. But I've had some gains. I found them for my vegetable cultivation. If they don't give me advice, they can't study. This is my farm, and I make the rules. Big principles don't work here." Qiping proudly said, pointing to a small mobile house in front as he led the family around the vegetable garden.
"Isn't that a small loss for a big gain? If they come up with results, they might replicate it elsewhere, and you'll be at a loss." The older brother didn't quite agree. It was better to keep such things unique.
"Looking at their research results, I don't think they'll come up with anything. Every time this month, they can't explain anything. I think they're just experts, but they do have some skills in growing vegetables." Qiping said proudly. He didn't believe those experts could come up with anything. The concept of formations was too mystical.
The family happily toured the farm, of course, not going into the mountains. When Qiping brought the family to the large lake on the farm and mentioned building a big house there, it was approved. Although the current house was nice, the scenery here was even better.
As for his parents, who had a bit of a small farmer's mentality, they no longer cared. As long as they could make money, spending some was justified. After all, what's the point of making money if you don't spend it?
