Chapter 1

When I woke up, I was enveloped in a soft, light brown fluff. The warmth and fluffiness made me feel as if I were in bed, giving me a sense of security.
I was sure I had died on the battlefield of the desert country of Atos...
"Kyuu, Kyuaon? (What’s going on?)"
What? I can’t speak properly!? In response to my agitation, the small fluff next to me got up and started nibbling on me.
Stop it, you! What are you licking!?
That’s not okay, what are you thinking!?
"Kuwa, Kau, Kuaan!! (Stop it, aaaaah!!)"
As I desperately tried to resist the sudden threat to my chastity, the fluff on the other side joined in.
"Ukyuu♪"
"Kkyuu!? (You too!?)"
I responded to the fluff climbing on me from the side with violence.
"Ku, Kwwaf! (Gah, take my fist!!)"
Pofu
"Kyuu, Kyuaauu!? (What, it’s not working!?)"
The still soft paws cushioned the impact in vain, and I soon realized my small, fluffy hands.
"Kyuu, Kyua! Kkyuu (What are these hands!? Ah!)"
Pofu, pofu pofu pofu
Pofu pofu pofu pofu pofu
"Kyuu, Kyuaan♪"
"Ku, Kuraan! Kyou? (What are you so happy about!? Are you an M?)"
Despite my desperate resistance, I quickly ran out of breath, and as I grew weak, I was devoured by the two fluffs, becoming covered in drool...
"Uu~ (Uu~)"
Just as I was about to give up and let them do as they pleased, the large fluff that had been surrounding us began to stir. Looking up, I saw a dog-like monster in the shape of a human, a kobold, and instinctively understood what I was now.
(What!? A kobold!)
In the midst of the shock and confusion, my exhausted puppy body could no longer resist the sleepiness, and I was gently lulled to sleep by the kobold mother...
Thus, I was reborn as a canine kobold living in a forest, and I now live in a slightly dark cave deep in the woods with my family of four. There are similar burrows scattered around, and apparently, there are about thirty or so kobolds in the area.
Recently, I’ve learned to crawl and sometimes stick my head out of the burrow for reconnaissance, but I’m quickly picked up and returned to my bed by my mother.
"Kyuu, Kuun, Kuaan (Phew, Mother, I understand.)"
Curiosity can lead to death on the battlefield... That’s me now.
By the way, my sister is also trying to crawl to the exit but is quickly brought back. Seeing this, Mother nods, seemingly proud. I sense something behind me.
"Hapu"
"Kyaa!?"
Before I can turn around, my brother bites my tail.
Gah, this guy attacks when I let my guard down, huh!?
Pofu, pofu pofu pofu
(To be continued...)
Haa, haa... I’ve wasted my energy again...
To clarify, I have no idea what order I was born in, and calling them my sister and brother is just subjective... But I feel older, so I’ve been letting them fight over the spot by Mother’s side.
After some time, I weaned and faced my first challenge.
"Kyoo, Garoguaon!?
(Father, you want me to eat this!?)"
"Waf, Woa (Yeah, that’s right.)"
In front of me was a rabbit with its throat torn out, dripping with blood.
"Kyuun..."
I timidly climbed onto Mother’s lap to beg for milk, but she picked me up and returned me to the silent rabbit.
"Kyuu♪"
"Waf!"
Tch, my sister and brother are devouring it greedily, these beasts!!
Ah, I understand, if I don’t eat here, I’ll starve to death!
Ah, whatever!
Kapu
Mmm, it’s delicious!?
(Is it because my taste has been adjusted to a kobold’s?)
So, I devoured the prey Father had hunted, along with my siblings...
...
...
...
By the way, kobold pups grow quite fast.
After some time, my siblings and I, now six months old, could walk on two legs. Recently, with my growth, Mother has allowed me to wander around the area where the kobold burrows are clustered.
Meeting other kobolds besides my parents and siblings, I realized a significant fact.
There are no old kobolds; even the oldest among them probably live only about ten years. It seems the survival rate of kobolds, being low-level monsters, is low. They might die before reaching their natural lifespan, even if not as quickly as ordinary stray dogs.
The lifestyle of dog people is basically a cycle of [sleep → wake up → go hunting → eat] with no other elements. In other words, there’s no thought of making better weapons or training to improve survival rates!
If things continue as they are, I will likely be killed by other monsters or humans, ending my second life prematurely. I definitely don’t want that, and I haven’t forgotten the regret I felt in my previous life’s death, “the regret of my own inadequacy.”
This time, I want to be strong enough to die with no regrets, laughing, even if I’m a weak kobold.
Therefore, I decided to push myself to the limits of kobold training and challenge the limits of a kobold. Since I don’t know when I might die, I have to do my best every day.
Also, the more reliable companions I have, the better, so I invited my siblings to train with me.
My sister, who was attached to me, followed along with push-ups, sit-ups, tree climbing, and rock throwing, even though she didn’t understand the meaning. My brother, however, quickly got bored.
At the time, I thought there was no need to force him, but later I regretted not training him more. The law of the jungle is harsh...
Thus, every day, I ran until I was exhausted, building my stamina, and continued training in combat, even as a child. As a result, we became overwhelmingly strong among the eleven kobold pups born this spring.
Perhaps that led to overconfidence.
As the seasons progressed, we began to venture further from the village. By then, the mothers of the group were following their children at a distance, interfering less.
One day, while walking through the forest with my friends, I suddenly sensed something large stirring in the bushes, sending a chill down my spine.
"Wau!! (Ambush!!)"
At the same moment, the worst monster in the area, the Gray Bear, emerged from the bushes! With its powerful jaws capable of tearing prey to pieces, and its massive paws and hard claws that can easily rip through trees, it was a terrifying presence standing before us.
"Gruu... Gaaa!"
It growled low and raised its powerful arms, roaring as it swiped at the nearest kobold pup with a horizontal slash!!
