Chapter 45 of 100
Chapter 45
12 min read3,086 words
The LOL internet cafe league was in full swing, starting from the initial qualifying rounds where the skill levels of the participants varied greatly.
On the 11th, the major internet cafes and network clubs in Lecity were almost boiling with excitement. The once glorious days of packed internet cafes had been gone for a few years, but no one expected that a competitive game would suddenly bring them back to the peak.
Today, Tang Nan, the owner of Longsheng Network Club, also appeared. He hadn't seen a large group of people waiting behind a computer for a long time.
All the hundreds of computers in the network club were occupied by LOL players. Those who came to play other games felt somewhat uncomfortable, as if not playing LOL made them inferior.
"Back then, we organized some competitions, but we couldn't even gather enough teams, and they mostly ended up failing. I never thought that LOL would be so popular, with over 70 teams participating, and a large crowd watching the matches..." Tang Nan said with a smile.
"Yes, so many people playing this game and forming a great competitive atmosphere. If Longsheng can win the title of Lecity's best, all the LOL players will come here in the future," Qin Ying said.
Tang Nan's smile grew wider. The internet cafe industry had not been doing well in recent years, partly due to increased competition and partly because more and more people had their own computers at home.
If everyone had a computer in the future, wouldn't internet cafes go out of business?
So, developing internet cafes into e-sports venues was indeed a very good choice.
...
The internet cafe competition was held in the B area's competitive seats. Eight teams would compete simultaneously, which meant four matches.
Longsheng Network Club had 10 slots, and the top 10 teams would receive corresponding rewards.
The top 3 teams would advance to the Lecity internet cafe league.
Most of the stronger teams in Longsheng were already known, and some people were quietly ranking them.
At 10:00 AM, the first match officially began.
The teams drawn were the Ghost Teeth team, composed of a group of young adults, and the Jack of Hearts team, composed of five high school graduates who looked quite young.
The members of the Ghost Teeth team saw the somewhat naive faces of their opponents and smiled confidently, as if they were sure of victory.
The five high school graduates, on the other hand, seemed a bit nervous. They followed the instructions of the network manager, as if a small seating mistake would get them disqualified.
The match was a regular custom game, set up by the network manager in a custom room.
Ten computers were already logged into level 10 accounts with full runes. The players didn't need to log in with their own accounts; they just needed to sit in the designated seats and use the pre-logged accounts for the match.
A simple sign with the team name and player name was placed on each player's computer.
This format was simple and direct. Although it wasn't the most formal league, it was already quite well-organized for an internet cafe match.
The Ghost Teeth team and the Jack of Hearts team were already in position, and the other six teams also took their seats.
"The competition strictly prohibits proxy players. The initial registrants must be the ones who compete, and no last-minute substitutions are allowed!" The network manager read out the rules.
"The competition computers have been strictly checked and should not have any issues. If problems such as lag, freezing, or disconnection occur during the match, the game will continue. So, don't kick the power supply out of excitement."
"Both sides must maintain a civilized and standardized attitude. No insulting or demeaning the opponents. Violators will be disqualified."
After the network manager finished reading the rules, the Ghost Teeth team and the Jack of Hearts team entered the draft mode to select their heroes.
The first match naturally attracted a large crowd. Soon, the area behind the Ghost Teeth team and the Jack of Hearts team was filled with spectators, many of whom looked like experienced players. They pushed their glasses up, stroked their chins, and commented on the hero selections.
The formation of the Jack of Hearts team was not really a formation. The result of the match could be predicted from the hero selection.
On the other side, the hero selection of the ATM team also caught everyone's attention.
"Jax? Choosing Jax in a match, are they hoping to sneak into the enemy base or what?"
"Mid Jax, I guess."
"Haha, the enemy directly chose Annie. This Jax will call her 'Mom.'"
"Students are students. They dare to pick a hero like Jax, who will be targeted in ranked matches..."
"Looking at the ATM team, they don't seem like high school students. Why are their hero selections so childish?"
"Oh, they are probably college students on summer break. They rarely come to the internet cafe for practice, probably playing at home. Their choice of Jax shows that their skills aren't that great."
...
"Damn, at 6 minutes, the mid lane of the Jack of Hearts team has collapsed. Their mid laner doesn't even dare to leave the base."
...
"Hey, the ATM team is using Jax as a jungler... That's weird. Isn't Annie in the mid lane against Lux? I thought Lux was a support."
...
"Like a team of wind... This is a 20-minute pace, right?"
...
"Mi Ge's team seems to have met a small expert. They haven't gained any advantage for so long."
...
From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the players on the competitive seats changed frequently. Many teams that were initially confident left the internet cafe with their heads hanging low.
Teams that were eliminated had a chance to participate in a revival match, which required a payment of 300 yuan to re-enter the qualifying round.
If they were eliminated again, they would need to pay 600 yuan to continue participating.
The money paid would not be kept by the internet cafe but would be used as rewards for the top three teams.
On the first day, some teams that were eliminated were not satisfied and directly paid 300 yuan, determined to advance to the revival match.
Many teams, after experiencing the match, realized the gap between themselves and the true experts. Paying more money would just mean more humiliation, so they left with tears in their eyes.
The matches would continue from 7:00 PM to around 11:00 PM.
On the first day, Longsheng Network Club was packed. Even with air conditioning, the heat was unbearable. At this moment, Coca-Cola provided a ton of frozen damage, alleviating the heat and the tension of the matches.
If all the internet cafes in major cities were in such a state, Coca-Cola's sales would definitely rank first in the country during this period.
There would be a match of the Blood Team in the evening.
This match attracted a lot of attention. Some teams that had already competed stayed to see if the Blood Team, often called the strongest, could completely dominate their opponents and how they would do it!
"I heard the Blood Team has a new support player."
"I saw him. He seemed to be training in Area C in the afternoon. He looks like a student."
People were already discussing this.
"He's just a student, okay."
"Is he very skilled?"
"Who knows? I saw Qin Laoda and Wu Kai arguing that day. Maybe Qin Laoda couldn't find a suitable player and just picked someone to fill the spot."
