Chapter 28

It's short. A story from just after Ryu was born.

I am very grateful for all the comments and corrections. Thank you always.

During the school lunch break, I was standing in a corner of the schoolyard, staring at the sky.

I was trying to see if I could also emit a beam from my eyes, after seeing Ryu do it. I had been at it for several minutes, but there was no sign of a beam coming from my eyes.

"Hey, what are you doing over there?"

I turned at the sound of the voice and saw Patrick. Oh, dangerous. I quickly turned my face away from Patrick.

"Don't come too close!"

"Sorry, sorry."

I didn't expect Patrick to sound so dejected. I briefly explained the situation to him as he hurriedly moved away.

"Well, I was trying to emit a beam from my eyes, so it's dangerous."

"Beam?"

"Um... a ray? The black one that newborn Ryu emitted from his eyes."

"Oh, that. Wait, you're trying to emit that, Yumera?"

We continued talking without looking at each other, maintaining our distance.

"Yes, it seems like the output can be controlled, and it's quick to fire, so I thought it would be excellent."

"...But, does it even make sense to emit it from your eyes?"

Ah, I see. I was trapped in the fixed idea that it was something that could only be emitted from the eyes because that's what Ryu did.

"You're right. If I can emit it from my fingertips, I could fire ten at once, and that would be better."

"Ah, I see..."

Eyes can only emit two beams, and there's a risk of blocking your vision. Patrick, as always, comes up with ideas I never would.

Wait, maybe it's not about specific parts like eyes or fingers. If I could emit beams from all the pores in my body, there would be no blind spots.

"Hmm, but if they come from my back, they might make holes in my clothes..."

"Back?"

"Wouldn't it be strong if I could fire beams in all directions? Like a chestnut burr."

Patrick grimaced, probably imagining me emitting beams from all over my body.

"Forget it. It's probably impossible for humans, like a dragon's breath."

"Ah, so I should start with breath training?"

I opened my mouth wide, trying to breathe fire. Something's about to come out.

"...You look really ridiculous."

When I thought about it, I must have looked like I was about to vomit.

"Got it... I'll give up on both the breath and the beam."

I'm turning away from him now because it would be dangerous if a beam came from my eyes.

It's definitely not because I'm embarrassed.

I'll do Chapter 2. Like Chapter 1, I'm starting without any stockpile. It's expected to be about internal affairs and marriage.
