Chapter 9 of 10
Chapter 9
6 min read1,477 words
It had been over 12 months since birth.
On that day, I left the room for the "first" time.
Yes, it was the first time.
The bath was brought to my room, I ate my meals in the room, and the toilet was something like a diaper or a cloth.
Well, I was a baby, so it was inevitable that the toilet was a diaper... I couldn't do anything by myself.
Shame? What's that, is it delicious?
I'm a baby! There's no problem! Damn!
My brother, sister, nanny, mother, and father all came to my room.
However, no one took me out of the room.
The only other people who came to the room were the elderly doctor.
In conclusion, there was no need to leave the room, and no one took me out of it.
I never thought about going out myself.
I was busy with training and was so engrossed.
It's not that no one wanted to take me out.
My brother Theo loved trees so much that he pruned the trees in the garden himself and boasted about making a bonsai flower stand.
He talked to me, who was not yet one year old, about the beauty of trees for a long time.
My sister Ellie made a large flower bed in the garden, planted several types of flowers, edible herbs, inedible herbs, and many other plants, and took care of them with my mother, Claire.
Like Theo, she talked to me enthusiastically about the flower bed, trying to outdo Theo.
There's no way they wouldn't want to show me their beloved plants and flowers directly.
Actually, they had mentioned it a few times.
They wanted to show me the pride of the garden, our beloved children.
They might have said it because they thought I wouldn't understand at less than one year old.
They must have understood that they wouldn't be able to show me.
After saying that, they always looked sad and regretful.

A few days before I left the room for the first time, the elderly doctor who came for a house call said clearly,
"Miss Lillian's eyes are afflicted with a disease that will never allow her to see... 'Clouded Eyes.'"
There was an unfamiliar proper noun mixed in.
He also mentioned that he had visited many people with the same symptoms, read various documents, and searched for anyone who had recovered.
However, no one had recovered, and all the dozens of people he found and those mentioned in various documents had remained with 'Clouded Eyes,' without any light in their eyes.
'Clouded Eyes'
From the elderly doctor's explanation, it is a disease characterized by white, cloudy eyes.
Most people get it later in life, not congenitally.
So, I was a rare case, having been born with it.
The cause and treatment are unknown, and it is considered an incurable disease.
The symptoms are complete blindness, like being in complete darkness on a moonless night.
It's not just partial blindness; it's complete loss of vision.
It occurs suddenly without any warning.
Claire, who was listening, only said one thing.
"...I see..."
It sounded like she had given up or accepted it, as she must have known that my eyes had been cloudy since birth.
However, the words from the elderly doctor must have been like a death sentence.
He had visited dozens of people with 'Clouded Eyes' and researched documents to confirm that it wasn't a mistake.
Both the elderly doctor and my mother must have had a faint hope, a tiny hope that it might be wrong.
Theo and Ellie also knew, and because they knew, they didn't take me out of the room.
They couldn't show me the things they loved, the things they wanted to show their beloved sister.
So, no one took me out of the room.
And today, I left the room.
Of course, I didn't go out alone; my mother carried me carefully, and my brother and sister walked beside us.
My vision was closed in darkness.
But that's not all. With these 'Clouded Eyes,' I can see magic (provisional term).
I can see my mother, who is carrying me carefully, and my brother and sister walking beside us, though without color.
So, I'm not sad.

The corridor, I assume, was a bit colder than the room, but thin magic (provisional term) similar to the heating device in the room was coming out at regular intervals from above, so it was comfortable.
After walking a little, I felt a sensation of moving up and down, so we must be going down the stairs.
My room must have been on the second floor or higher.
I learned this for the first time.
By the way, the clothes I'm wearing now are quite different from usual.
I usually wear skirts with pants or something like a coverall, but now I'm wearing something like a balloon dress with puffed sleeves.
A large ribbon is tied at the back, holding the front part, and Claire and Ellie have complimented me, saying I look like a fairy.
My hair has been styled neatly, and I'm wearing a headband with several fluffy decorations.
I confirmed all this by touching it myself, as I can't see a mirror.
It's clearly a special outfit for going out or a party.
Even without magic (provisional term), I can see clothes if someone is wearing them, though I can't see the details.
My vision has improved a lot through training, but even with enhanced eyesight, I can't see the details.
I can see the details of faces, but not of clothes.
Clothes that no one is wearing are completely invisible.
It's strange that I can't see them when I'm holding them, but I can see them when they're being worn.
There's a mysterious boundary.
Even accessories are visible in a general way when worn.
However, necklaces and other items that are vague even when worn are hard to see clearly.
It might be that way with things you wear.
There's still a possibility that I can see the details if my vision improves further, so I'm not giving up.
The clothes look like this, so my body isn't visible through them.
To see the details of clothes, I have to touch and confirm them directly.
There's still a lot I don't know.
I was getting a bit excited.
While thinking about this, the stairs seemed to end.
We walked a little more, and my brother and sister were doing something.
I can't see things without magic (provisional term).
Judging from their actions, it must be a door.
They seem to be slowly pushing open a double door, one side at a time.
A double door... Is this house quite wealthy?
Ordinary houses don't have double doors.
No, this isn't the country I lived in before, so maybe double doors are standard in a foreign country.
While I was thinking about this, the door opened completely, and a loud popping sound echoed.
I was startled by the sound, but I didn't make a sound, perhaps because I usually act quiet and expressionless, or because I was too surprised.
Then, I heard many voices of blessing.
Some of them were familiar.
Ah, that's right, today is my birthday.
I finally turned one year old.
A year since reincarnation, it felt both long and short.
This is a birthday party.
In the darkness, I could see many people with my trained vision, which can see magic (provisional term) as white human shapes in detail.
A year since reincarnation.
I've only met six people.
But at my birthday party, there are more than fifty people, just by a rough count.
So many people are here to bless me.
Just that made me feel like crying.
Claire, who was carrying me, slowly entered the circle of blessings.
She sat me next to my father, Alec, and sat beside him.
Ellie was next to Claire, and Theo was next to Alec, and they all said more words of blessing.
I was overwhelmed with emotion.
Then, I lifted one of the restrictions I had imposed on myself.
A year since reincarnation.
I had hardly changed my expression and acted quiet.
That ends today.
"Thank you very much."
I smiled and said it with the best smile I could manage.
"Kawaii!!!"
...Their reaction was honestly unexpected.
By the way, I just realized I didn't write about the toilet.
There are probably many other parts I forgot to write about...
This is the end of Chapter 1.
Before Chapter 2, I might add a side story from a different perspective.
My stock is running low, so updates might not be daily.
I'll take it slow and steady.
