Early morning, Los Angeles.
"Buzz~" The alarm on the bedside table rang.
A young man with a bandaged head slowly woke up, black eyes, black hair, and the deep features of a Westerner.
He was originally a police officer in China, and it had been half a month since he had crossed over. Each time he woke up, it still felt like a dream.
Now he was called Luke Li, a detective in the Los Angeles Police Department.
His father was a Chinese man.
His mother was a white woman.
Although he was still a police officer and had Chinese blood, he found it very hard to adapt to his current identity.
The original owner of the body was outgoing, unpredictable, and acted on impulse.
On the surface, he seemed very cool, but behind his back, people called him an asshole.
In short, he had low emotional intelligence and had offended many people because of it.
His behavior was completely different from his previous life, which made him feel very passive now.
What made him even more depressed was that the original owner had a poor relationship with his family, and he now had to stay with his parents, which was an awkward situation.
However, crossing over did have its benefits. He was now younger and more muscular.
The projection on the window was not very clear, but the outline of his muscles could be faintly seen.
Overall, being given a second chance at life wasn't bad…
"Jack, come downstairs for breakfast.
If you miss the school bus again today, don't expect me to drive you!"
A woman's voice came from downstairs. It was his current mother, Linda.
Jack was his younger brother, a thirteen-year-old chubby boy—far from cute.
This was a two-story wooden villa. The first floor had a living room, kitchen, and the parents' master bedroom.
The second floor had a bathroom, study, and the brothers' bedrooms.
It was early March, and the temperature in Los Angeles was between 10° and 20° Celsius, very comfortable.
He put on a thick blue shirt and gray jeans, walked out of the bedroom, and turned into the adjacent bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth.
After washing up, Luke prepared to go downstairs.
The wooden white staircase creaked under his feet, as if giving a reminder.
To the right of the stairs was the living room, and to the left was the open kitchen.
A white woman wearing a Hello Kitty apron was busy in the kitchen.
Luke forced a smile, "Hi, Mom, good morning."
Linda didn't even lift her eyelids, "No, I'm not doing well at all. Last night, you came home with a bandaged head and dragging a suitcase. The neighbors are definitely going to talk."
Luke said helplessly, "I didn't want it to be like this, but Lina and I broke up… I need to stay here for a while."
Linda put down the spatula, "I told you before not to be with that woman. She doesn't even show basic respect to elders. A girl like that isn't worth dating.
And you?
You didn't listen to me at all."
Luke nodded, "She's not a good person to date. I broke up with her."
"You were dumped, weren't you?" Linda had a look of 'I knew it all along.'
Luke smiled and didn't say anything more.
Linda was a bit surprised. According to her eldest son's character, he wouldn't back down on this issue and would surely argue, leading to an unpleasant end.
The sudden calmness made her feel a bit uncomfortable.
This kid… is he different today?
More mature?
Luke walked to the entrance, picked up his black helmet, and called out, "I'm going to work."
"Creak…"
A teenager around thirteen or fourteen years old came down the stairs, rubbing his eyes with his chubby hands, "Mom, I'm in the growth stage, can't you let me sleep a bit more?"
Linda shrugged, "You're already fat enough. What you need now is exercise."
Luke raised his right hand from his right temple and pointed forward, "Isn't this my cute little brother? How have you been lately?"
The chubby boy rolled his eyes, "No, just thinking about the New Year's money I was swindled out of makes me want to turn into the Hulk."
Since Luke was going to stay here for a while, he wanted to improve his relationship with his family and couldn't pretend not to hear.
He rolled up his sleeves, "Little brother, who swindled your New Year's money? Tell me?"
The chubby boy looked at Luke expressionlessly, as if saying, 'Keep acting.'
Luke had integrated most of the original owner's memories, but some details were unclear.
Seeing the other person's expression, he realized there might be a problem and carefully recalled the original owner's memories…
He suddenly felt awkward.
"That… the New Year's money, consider it a loan. I'll pay you back as soon as possible, with interest."
Luke looked at his watch, "I'm going to be late. Bye."
He put on his leather gloves and fled under the expectant gazes of his family.
His first attempt to improve his relationship with his family…
Failed.
"Bang!"
The door closed.
The chubby boy took a carton of milk from the fridge and poured it into a glass, "Mom, did I hear wrong? Did he actually offer to pay me back?"
Linda put the pancake on a plate, "He's definitely not acting normal today. Don't get your hopes up too much."
"I understand."
The chubby boy sighed, "Is this guy really my real brother?"
"Although I don't want to admit it, that's the fact."
The chubby boy showed a mature expression that didn't match his age, "Yeah, that's the saddest part."
Linda pointed at the chubby boy with the spatula, "Jack, focus on the right things. If you don't get a B this time, your game console will have to wait for the next life."
……
Luke lived in a middle-class community, and the environment was quite nice.
Their house was one of the smaller units in the community, with a yard of only about twenty to thirty square meters. The east side was a green lawn, and the west side was a garage, with a concrete area in front of it.
A black motorcycle with a muscular look was parked there, a 2021 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy.
The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy series was the one Arnold Schwarzenegger rode in the movie "Terminator 2."
Luke took off the bandage on his head; it was useless anyway.
He put on his helmet, got on the motorcycle, shifted into first gear, and gently twisted the throttle, trying to keep the motorcycle's roar as low as possible.
He didn't want to end up sleeping on the street.
The motorcycle slowly entered the community road, and the farther he got from home, the higher the gear, and the faster the speed.
"Vroom…"
The feeling of riding the Harley was stable!
The heavy body and low seat made it more like driving than riding.
The scenery along the Los Angeles roads was beautiful, with the vast Pacific Ocean on one side and steep cliffs on the other. Many people would come here specifically for a drive.
Of course, even the most beautiful road would have the same problem: traffic jams.
Luke had no choice but to stop and wait.
Next to him was a red convertible, and a blonde woman was applying makeup in the mirror.
The woman was very beautiful, wearing a burgundy top that attracted many people's gazes with her ample figure.
Luke took off his helmet and waved, "Hi, beautiful, can I bother you for a moment?"
The blonde woman pursed her red lips, glanced at Luke, and said indifferently, "I already have a boyfriend."
Luke smiled, "Okay, I just wanted to tell you that your tire is flat."
The blonde woman put down her lipstick and looked down. The front tire was flat.
She looked at Luke again and forced a smile, "Sir, can you help me change it? There's a spare tire in the car."
At this moment, the traffic had cleared up.
"I'm in a hurry. Ask your boyfriend to help you."
Luke twisted the throttle, and the motorcycle roared away…
