Luke contacted his colleagues immediately.
Although those guys weren't very likable, they were still reliable.
He checked Daisy's condition; her breathing was normal, and she was not in immediate danger.
He began to investigate the scene.
The weapon used by the suspect was a Taser, and Daisy's handbag and shoes were in a travel bag. One button on her coat was undone.
Luke immediately thought of the 'Taser Robbery Case.'
But something didn't seem right.
Today was Thursday.
According to the suspect's usual pattern, he usually committed crimes on Fridays.
The two victims of the 'Taser Robbery Case' both had long blonde hair, while Daisy had brown hair.
The time of the crime and the characteristics of the victim were different.
"You... how did you end up here? Did you save me?" Daisy opened her eyes, looking around the environment, still with a frightened expression on her face.
She tried to sit up, but her strength failed her.
Luke showed his badge, "LAPD, you don't need to be afraid. The suspect has been subdued by me."
Daisy's eyes reddened, and she said in a trembling voice, "Thank you for saving me, I am very grateful."
"You're welcome, it's my duty." Luke took out fifteen dollars from his pocket and placed it in Daisy's hand, "I appreciate your gesture, but I'll return the money to you."
Daisy opened her mouth in disbelief, "Did you come to me just to return the money?"
"Yes."
"Wait, I just wanted to thank you by buying you a drink. If you hadn't warned me in time, my car tire might have been ruined, and you also saved me..."
"Then you should have invited me openly instead of leaving without paying."
"You're right. Next time, I'll formally invite you to express my gratitude." Daisy's tone was serious.
"Your body hasn't fully recovered, rest for a while." Luke said dismissively. These things weren't important; what mattered was returning the lottery money.
...
A few minutes later, nearby patrol officers arrived at the scene, setting up a 'LAPD' police line to assist Luke in maintaining order.
Twenty minutes later, the 'Robbery-Homicide Division' people also arrived.
"Hey, hey! Isn't this the lone hero who caught the robber!" Marcus's tone was laced with envy and jealousy.
The Robbery-Homicide Division had only Luke who clocked out on time, while the others were working overtime.
So what?
Luke became the hero who caught the suspect.
Where could he go to complain?
Captain Susan glanced at the scene, "Luke, what's the situation here?"
Luke detailed the process of the arrest.
Susan followed up, "Do you think he's the suspect in the previous two 'Taser Robbery Cases'?"
"I'm not sure."
"What about the suspect's condition?"
"He won't talk until his lawyer arrives."
Susan patted Luke's shoulder, "Good job, well done!"
"I told you, I can still contribute to the team without working overtime."
"Very good, I look forward to your future performance."
Deputy Vince walked over, "CBS TV people are here, they want to interview Luke."
Susan looked at Luke, "What do you think?"
Being in the spotlight is good, but as a police officer, it's important to maintain a low profile, not just for your own safety but also for your family's.
"Captain, I'm a bit tired. I just want to take a shower and get some rest now."
Luke waved goodbye to his colleagues, "See you tomorrow."
Deputy Vince was speechless, "Let him just walk away like that?"
Susan countered, "What else? He caught the suspect, who has more merit than him?"
"This kid got lucky!"
Deputy Vince shrugged and shouted to the others, "Guys, take the suspect back to the station, we have a busy night ahead."
...
Back home.
Luke went straight to the second-floor bedroom.
He closed the door and started studying the Detective System.
To be precise, he was studying the 'Encounter Card.'
Luke's consciousness entered the Detective System, and the warehouse interface was empty; the 'Encounter Card' had disappeared.
He remembered the previous system prompt: [Completed an encounter, the Encounter Card has been activated and used.]
Originally, he thought today's encounter was too bizarre. He just went out to return money and ended up catching a robber, which was incredibly lucky.
Now, it seemed the Detective System was at work.
The good news was that Luke caught a robber, and his job was temporarily secure.
The bad news was that the Encounter Card was used up, and Luke might not have such good luck again.
Luke asked in his mind, 'Detective System, how can I get a new Encounter Card?'
Luke asked in Chinese and English several times but received no response.
Luke suddenly felt a bit disappointed; being a detective wasn't that easy.
Luke took a shower and lay in bed, his mind full of today's experiences...
The Encounter Card was gone, and he didn't want to scratch the scratch card for now.
He had never won a prize from scratch cards before.
As he was about to fall asleep, a voice rang in his head: [Ding, congratulations on successfully capturing a robber, activating the prize menu, 10 draws available.]
A menu appeared in his mind, with the warehouse interface on the left.
On the right was a new draw interface.
In the middle was a spinning wheel with a needle, and the bottom left showed 10 draws available.
Luke didn't know how to operate it, but when he thought of the word 'draw,' the needle started spinning.
The needle stopped, and the selected area lit up, showing $1,000.
Luke's lips curled into a smile; his luck wasn't bad.
At first, he was worried it would be a 'Thank you for participating.'
He continued to draw.
The needle spun.
It stopped randomly, and the selected area lit up, showing $1,000.
Third draw, Encounter Card.
Fourth draw, $1,000.
Fifth draw, $1,000.
Sixth draw, $1,000.
Seventh draw, $1,000.
Eighth draw, $1,000.
Ninth draw, $1,000.
Tenth draw, Detection Card.
The card read 'Detection' with a small note below: [Active card, function unknown].
List of prizes:
'$8,000!
Encounter Card, [Passive card, disappears when an encounter occurs.]
Detection Card, [Active card, function unknown]'
Luke sat up in bed, all sleepiness gone.
He had a good understanding of the Encounter Card's function; it passively triggers encounters.
The Detection Card, from its name, might have some kind of sensing function.
However, the specific detection range and function were unclear and would likely be known only after use.
10 draws, 8 times $1,000. From the results, $1,000 was equivalent to 'Thank you for participating.'
This system was really powerful.
With this money, Luke's financial situation would improve.
Luke subconsciously thought, 'How do I claim the prize?'
A voice rang in his head: [Two ways to claim the prize. The first way is to directly deposit it into the host's bank account (immediate deposit).
The second way is to deliver it through legitimate channels (based on actual circumstances).]
Luke thought about it; both methods had their pros and cons. Immediate deposit was convenient, but it could cause problems if it happened too often.
If the police were the second most powerful organization in America, the IRS would be the first.
If they targeted him, Luke might be labeled as a corrupt cop.
To be safe, he chose the second method.
