Qiao Wei Gun Shop.
A Dodge Challenger parked in front of the store, and two men got out of the car, one a bald white man, the other a young man with black hair.
They were David and Luke from the "Robbery-Homicide Unit."
The two men entered the gun shop one after the other.
The room was filled with various types of firearms, including pistols, rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles.
Luke was dazzled by the sight and walked up to the counter, flashing his badge, "Who is the owner?"
A middle-aged man with a beard was cleaning a rifle on the counter, "I'm the owner of this shop. What's the problem?"
"I'm Detective Luke, and this is Captain David." Luke took out a photo of the suspect Tim from his pocket, "Have you seen this person?"
The owner glanced at it, "No."
Luke then took out a picture of a modified Taser, "Do you recognize this gun?"
The owner put down the cloth and glanced at it, "It's an X26-C Taser. I have a few in my shop.
Sir, if you want one, I can give you a 95% discount."
"This isn't an ordinary Taser. The voltage and magazine have been modified, making it much more powerful than a regular Taser.
Last night, the man in the photo used this gun to commit a robbery. According to him, he bought the gun from your shop.
How many modified Tasers do you have in your shop, and I need a list of customers who bought this type of gun."
The owner was silent for a moment, then shook his head, "I just sell guns, and I do legal business. There are no modified Tasers in my shop. You're looking in the wrong place."
Luke looked around and pointed to the security camera on the ceiling, "Pull up the surveillance footage. I need to review it."
"Sir, I'm willing to cooperate, but you need a search warrant first."
David was getting impatient and leaned forward, "Hey, if I come back with a warrant, it won't be as simple as checking the surveillance footage.
Do you want to shut down for a while or come to the station for a visit?
I'll make sure you feel right at home."
The owner was annoyed but cowered, pointing to the camera, "It's a fake. My shop has so many valuable items, I don't need that kind of thing."
"Then we need to talk privately." David checked the camera and pointed to the salesmen at the counter, "Either they leave, or I take you to the station."
The owner instructed the two salesmen, "Go to the back and organize the inventory."
David tapped the Taser photo on the counter, "I need a list of customers who bought this type of gun."
"I've already told you, we don't sell modified Tasers." The owner's tone was firm.
David picked up the rifle parts on the counter and started assembling them, "A civilian version of the M16 semi-automatic rifle, the magazine can only hold 10 rounds, but it's enough to wreck your shop."
"Are you threatening me?"
"I'll shoot if you don't talk after I finish assembling it."
The owner looked at Luke, "Sir, I'm being threatened. Aren't you going to stop him?"
Luke hesitated.
According to the rules of the station, he should stop David to prevent a bigger mess.
But his rationality told him not to do so.
As partners, even if he didn't agree with David's methods, he couldn't argue in front of the suspect... he had to support him at this moment.
"Your shop has so many guns, an accidental discharge is normal.
We heard the gunshots and came to help. If you get hurt, I'll call 911 for you." Luke crouched down and covered his ears,
"This bastard will do anything, you're on your own."
David assembled the gun, loaded a round, and pointed it at the owner's forehead,
"Time's up!"
The owner raised his hands, "Don't shoot! I'll talk. But I won't admit it outside this door."
"I just need the customer list, I don't care about the other crap."
The owner's forehead was covered in sweat, "There's only one modified Taser in the shop, and I only sold it to one person."
"Why did you lie?"
"I didn't want to get into trouble."
"Where did the modified Taser come from?"
"A guy nicknamed 'Postman' brought it to the shop for consignment."
"Why did you help him with the consignment?"
"An ordinary Taser sells for a thousand dollars, but a modified one can sell for three thousand. I just wanted to see if it would sell well."
"Can you give me his real name and contact information?"
"I don't know. He came to the shop on his own.
We did a cash transaction. He's known for gun modifications, and everyone calls him 'Postman'."
"If you lie or hide anything...?"
"I swear to God, that's all I know."
David wiped the M16's grip with a cloth and put it back on the counter, "A suggestion: you should install surveillance cameras."
Luke and David left the gun shop.
After getting in the car, Luke holstered his gun and leaned back in the seat, letting out a long breath, "You went too far."
David drank half a bottle of mineral water, "I know this type of person. He wouldn't talk if I didn't do this."
"You're too aggressive. There are other ways. I don't want to have a gunfight in a gun shop with a Glock, it makes me feel like an idiot."
"This is the fastest way." David glanced at Luke, "You've really changed."
"Everyone has to grow up."
As a former Chinese police detective, Luke was not used to this method of investigation.
It was the first time in his life he had negotiated with someone in a room full of guns and ammunition.
He was always worried that the two salesmen would suddenly come out with semi-automatic rifles and start shooting.
"Fuck!"
Next time, he would never work with this lunatic again.
…
Luke got out of the car halfway through the trip.
His legs were still a bit weak as he walked, and the feeling was very unpleasant.
Flying Bar.
Business hours: 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM.
Luke entered the bar, and the hall was empty, with more staff than customers.
Bartender Danny was surprised, "Luke, I've never seen you here at noon."
"Me neither."
"What can I get you?"
Luke sat at the bar, "A plate of chicken curry rice."
"Anything to drink?"
"Don't tempt me to make a mistake. If I get fired from the station, I won't be able to help your business anymore."
"Did you come all this way just for chicken curry rice?"
Luke took out a scratch card from his pocket and placed it on the bar, "Cash it out before I finish lunch.
I need cash."
"Wow, you won eight thousand dollars!"
"Is there a problem?"
"No, it's just that I've played scratch cards for years and never won more than five hundred dollars.
Dude, you're really lucky."
Luke also realized this. Winning the lottery once or twice is fine, but doing it too often can draw attention.
Luke needed a long-term and reasonable way to cash out.
After finishing his meal, Luke successfully received the money.
This reinforced his resolve.
The eight thousand dollars in prize money was reduced to about seven thousand dollars in Luke's hands.
Lottery winnings are taxable, and the higher the prize, the higher the tax rate.
To be precise, Luke needed a long-term and reasonable way to cash out while avoiding taxes…
