Chapter 84

After the somewhat vulgar opening by Moon Jung-woo, the atmosphere at the scene officially heated up. In fact, when designing the opening, Moon Jung-woo certainly understood that it wasn't necessary to take such a controversial approach. Even though teachers knew their students had long been exposed to adult content, they still preferred to believe that their students were innocent and mischievous children.
Moon Jung-woo's opening was a bit bold and even a bit lowbrow, challenging the teachers' limits while receiving a positive response from the students. However, it served as an excellent catalyst for the entire school celebration. Watching the students on stage perform their nonsensical programs with great effort, Moon Jung-woo felt deeply engaged.
The performances on stage were very heartfelt, and the audience was extremely attentive. Moon Jung-woo exhaled softly, thinking, "Is everything really that easy?" If it were so easy to create a sense of involvement and interaction, would television producers worry about ratings? Those who don't watch your show lack a sense of involvement, and if your show doesn't attract them, it lacks interactivity.
When Principal Choi assigned him the task, he only required these two points. Moon Jung-woo didn't talk about whether it was difficult or easy; he just accepted it and did his best. If he thought he couldn't do it, he usually wouldn't take it on. However, Moon Jung-woo didn't realize that he was also exposing a less sunny side of himself.
To achieve his goal, he could be ruthless and not consider the consequences. The somewhat vulgar opening was an example. Although it was carefully chosen, it was hard to find fault with it. Moon Jung-woo was just a bit too meticulous, not that he was foolish. He wanted to challenge the teachers' limits, not to cross them.
"This is just my personality," Moon Jung-woo couldn't help but chuckle softly. But this laugh was different from his usual sunny smile; it had a hint of darkness. After a while, he put away his smile, lowered his head, and sighed. He took out his phone and glanced at it, caressing the buttons and a new phone number.
Perhaps his actions in the heart of one person were not entirely honorable or responsible. That person was Kim Tae-yeon, the collaborator he hadn't found after he went off stage. The programs effectively engaged the audience and the performers, but for someone as professional as him, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about them. He let Song Hye-in announce the programs; she was enough. He would occasionally interject.
He hadn't seen Kim Tae-yeon since yesterday, and he didn't expect that she still wouldn't be there when the school celebration started. After asking Lee Ya-won, he learned that she had come from Seoul at noon and hadn't left the school, at least not before the celebration began. But where she was now, Lee Ya-won didn't know. When Lee Ya-won called her, Kim Tae-yeon didn't answer. When she sent a text saying Moon Jung-woo was looking for her, she didn't reply.
Thinking her phone might be in the classroom, he went back to check, but it wasn't there. Moon Jung-woo couldn't leave; during the school celebration, leaving would be too noticeable and could be spotted by teachers and classmates, which would be bad. He didn't know how Kim Tae-yeon had slipped away. In frustration, he got her phone number from Lee Ya-won and decided to send a text, even if he had to be sincere.
"What I said about your vocal cords being in the changing period is true. I just said it a bit late, maybe I should have told you from the beginning."
At the abandoned teaching building on the back hill, Kim Tae-yeon fiddled with her phone, sitting and lost in thought. Seeing the text, she sneered and didn't respond. Soon, another text came, and Kim Tae-yeon was already getting impatient.
"You might think I'm just making excuses, and I admit I shouldn't have made you sacrifice for my performance. But you have to understand, while you wanted to compete and test our singing skills, I also wanted to compete with you."
Feeling annoyed, Kim Tae-yeon picked up her diary to read. She had just seen a new phone model and decided to pester her father to buy it soon, and change her number. She didn't need to think about it; Lee Ya-won must have told her the phone number. Could you decide whether we can exchange numbers?
Since she had been in a mess of emotions since she arrived, the constant ringing of her phone made her even more frustrated. But she didn't dare turn it off because her personality wasn't carefree. She was afraid that if something urgent happened and she couldn't be found, it would cause problems. So she was in a dilemma, not wanting to answer or respond but also not wanting to turn off her phone.
Because of this, she didn't even read the messages in her diary. Yes, there were messages. When she first arrived, she found them. They were two long paragraphs. She had only read the beginning when Lee Ya-won called, disrupting her mood.
Unconsciously, this place and the unfamiliar words in the diary became her last bit of solace. Apart from her family and Teacher Jung Chun-won, this school was her only connection to society.
Thinking of his message, if she couldn't completely relax here, where could she? Frustrated, she picked up her phone and looked at the text. Kim Tae-yeon set it to silent. If it was just a text, there probably wouldn't be any urgent matters. She just needed to occasionally check for missed calls and who they were from. As for the messages, she didn't need to read the content.
Finally, it was quiet. To avoid the screen's light flashing, she placed the phone face down. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Kim Tae-yeon looked at the message in the diary and gradually smiled, immersing herself in it.
"Sorry, I've been really busy lately. You know, with the school celebration, we have to prepare programs and activities. I really don't want to think about other things. After all, we both agreed not to meet or ask about each other's identity. But I can't help but recall, maybe a glance I didn't notice was you."
"Mo ya?" Kim Tae-yeon couldn't help but laugh. Why was it suddenly so sappy? It was like a love letter. But as she continued reading, she giggled again, her characteristic hearty laugh.
"Pretty sappy, right? I don't know why, usually I'm not that emotional, but writing this message, I couldn't help it. I was writing while throwing up, but don't worry, I threw up in a plastic bag I had with me."
The phone lit up again, but Kim Tae-yeon clearly didn't see it.
"So I'm saying, why don't you give me your number? You don't have to wait for my messages so anxiously. Boys and girls are different, oppa has big things to do, how can he always worry about such small romantic things?"
Kim Tae-yeon bit her lip and squinted at the words in the diary.
"Hehe, are you angry? Do you want to scold me in person? Call me arrogant and narcissistic? Or that I'm shameless? Anyway, give me your number. Oppa promises to answer immediately and let you scold me without saying a word. How about it? Do you agree?"
Kim Tae-yeon took a breath and suddenly slammed the diary shut, hitting it against the wall as if hitting the person who left the message. After a while, she calmed down and reluctantly smiled as she reopened the diary.
"Alright, do as you please. I know no girl really likes a persistent boy. But if you came one more time or I came one more time, I would have added the message. I guess you're not angry now, right? (PS: But even if you're still angry, so what? We won't see each other anyway, hahaha. O(∩_∩)O)"
Kim Tae-yeon chuckled. This was the message she left when she was being stubborn, and this guy actually came back.
"Last sentence. I don't know if it's too deep for our acquaintance, but as I said, we won't see each other anyway. Whether my words are light or heavy, I hope you don't mind."
Kim Tae-yeon slowly put away her smile and looked seriously. She felt a bit uncomfortable, as the tone was somewhat serious.
Kim Tae-yeon even wondered if he wouldn't come back, if he wouldn't leave messages for her anymore. But as she read on, she realized it wasn't what she thought, yet it gave her a strange feeling.
Fear? Or moved? Or perhaps, a sense of determination and resolve.
