On December 2nd, it started snowing. Unconsciously, a month had passed, and modern medicine had indeed advanced. They said a nodule would form on the vocal cords, and it really did.
They said it would take about a month to mature, and tomorrow was the day for the surgery. Lee Soo-young didn't inform Wen Jung-woo's family, which was a significant risk.
After all, considering Wen Jung-woo's family background, if they found out their son was sick, even if he had run away and had conflicts, they would spare no effort to treat him.
Even if Lee Soo-young wasn't short of the hospitalization and surgery fees, sending him abroad for treatment would be quite troublesome. Not to mention the cost, if you took his son, you might not really ignore it.
A family with such a background, how could they not know if you took their son abroad? But Lee Soo-young didn't do it; he was still unwilling.
Wen Jung-woo, understanding Lee Soo-young's difficulties, didn't care about his decision after a quarrel with Lee Soon-gyu. However, the surgery still had to be done.
The surgery wasn't complicated, but the outcome could be severe. The doctor always advised Wen Jung-woo to maintain a relaxed attitude, which would increase the chances of success.
So today, Wen Jung-woo applied to return to school, just before the winter break. Even if there was no particular reason, just to go back and see, both Lee Soo-young and the doctor agreed. However, Lee Soon-gyu insisted on accompanying him.
On the way, the little lion's expression was serious. Wen Jung-woo wasn't unaware of her mindset; she wanted to find the girl who had caused her so much trouble. After being together for so long, Wen Jung-woo understood her as well as she understood herself. When she was truly angry about something, the little lion wouldn't roar. She would just squint her eyes, ready to strike, waiting to deliver a fatal blow.
If that was the case, why did Wen Jung-woo bring her? Because Wen Jung-woo knew that Kim Tae-yeon wasn't at school. Over the past month, although Wen Jung-woo was hospitalized and didn't go to school, it didn't mean he was unaware of what had happened.
Principal Choi, as an old friend of Lee Soo-young, although the whole incident wasn't his fault, as the school principal, such a major event happened to Wen Jung-woo under his care. Not only was his head injured, but his voice might be permanently damaged. How could he not come to see?
As an old friend, even if Principal Choi didn't understand much about music and entertainment, he knew that a trainee so important to Lee Soo-young might now face a future where he couldn't debut. What kind of feeling would that be? Wen Jung-woo, of course, wouldn't say anything, even if they communicated with paper and pen, he could still make Principal Choi chuckle. After a month, Lee Soo-young's mindset had become much calmer. He watched the two chat casually.
Song Hye-in had graduated after taking the exam. Principal Choi gave her a major demerit, which she silently accepted, and then she went to a regular high school. She didn't contact anyone and never came back to school after taking the graduation photo.
Lee Ya-yuan had even transferred schools, which surprised Wen Jung-woo. He wanted to call her to ask, but then he remembered his phone was broken. The new one he got couldn't transfer the data from the old one. Kim Tae-yean had taken a long leave and was continuing her vocal training in Seoul.
Liu Shang-min didn't continue high school but helped his family with their small business. After a month, everything had calmed down. There were no significant changes; it was still the same routine of going to school, having classes, and going home.
Looking out the window at the snowflakes on the glass, Wen Jung-woo suddenly realized that when he returned to school, he probably wouldn't have anyone to chat and joke with like before. All the people involved in the incident seemed to have left the school. Wen Jung-woo's 14th birthday was just two months away, and he felt a bit melancholic.
Turning to look at Lee Soon-gyu, who was hugging herself and breathing deeply, Wen Jung-woo couldn't help but smile. At least he wasn't alone. There was someone who had always been by his side. But he couldn't help but think about that day's experience, the diary that overlapped in space and time, and the girl who left a message for him. Could she be... her?
Entering the school gate, the weather was cold and snowy, and many students weren't attending physical education classes. Instead, they were clearing snow as an activity. It was a way to help the school before the winter break, so the paths wouldn't be blocked when they returned.
The students clearing snow were surprised to see Wen Jung-woo walk through the school gate. Soon, they greeted him with smiles and waves, just like before. This time, there was an additional topic of teasing: the cute but slightly proud girl by his side.
"Wen Jung-woo is here."
"Is Jung-woo feeling better?"
"Is that Jung-woo's senior? Who's the girl next to him? His girlfriend?"
"Jung-woo! Is she your girlfriend?!"
Various greetings and questions filled the air, and Wen Jung-woo smiled, pointing to his throat and winking. Lee Soon-gyu glared at the noisy students, and Wen Jung-woo laughed, pulling her through the playground into the office building.
Since Wen Jung-woo couldn't speak, he just greeted everyone in the office building. He then went to see the principal and started wandering around.
But Lee Soon-gyu really went to the entrance of Class 2-1 several times, tiptoeing to look inside. Wen Jung-woo pulled her several times, but she wouldn't leave.
After class, Lee Soon-gyu asked if anyone knew a girl with a certain name, but they were confused. Lee Soon-gyu suddenly realized that she didn't even know the girl's name from start to finish.
Wen Jung-woo didn't want her to continue causing trouble, so he pulled her into Class 2-1 and showed her an empty desk, indicating that the girl wasn't there.
Lee Soon-gyu suddenly felt a bit evasive because all the students in the class were looking at them strangely. She didn't ask anyone for confirmation and turned to leave Class 2-1.
"You knew all along, didn't you?" Outside the teaching building, Lee Soon-gyu followed Wen Jung-woo, who was walking behind the building, and asked him with a sidelong glance.
Wen Jung-woo smiled and didn't say anything.
Lee Soon-gyu gestured with her hand, "Stop pretending. It's been a month; you can already speak. Why are you acting so cute?"
Wen Jung-woo looked back and coughed lightly, "I... don't want to speak... otherwise... they'll ask... too many questions... after the last incident... it's my first time back... they'll definitely... interview me."
Lee Soon-gyu chuckled, "Seeing how all the students and teachers are so enthusiastic about you. If they knew you were pretending to be mute and ignoring them, they'd be heartbroken."
Wen Jung-woo nodded, "I... am... heartbroken... too. They... actually... said you're my... girlfriend... what kind of eyesight do they have?"
Lee Soon-gyu stopped in her tracks, squinting at Wen Jung-woo, "Hey, do you want to become permanently mute?"
Wen Jung-woo smiled, "No."
Lee Soon-gyu laughed, "What if I do?"
Wen Jung-woo squatted down and made a snowball. He stood up and walked to Lee Soon-gyu... and threw it at her. Lee Soon-gyu opened her mouth wide, looking at the snow on her clothes, and raised her hand to hit him. Wen Jung-woo wouldn't let her succeed; the moment he threw the snowball, he turned and ran.
Lee Soon-gyu shouted angrily, "Wen Jung-woo! Stop right there!"
Wen Jung-woo, running ahead, turned back and smiled, "That's... a waste of words... I told you not to chase... would you not chase?"
He had time to respond because the road was covered in snow, making it hard to run. Unconsciously, Lee Soon-gyu felt tired chasing Wen Jung-woo, and his pace slowed down.
Lee Soon-gyu looked around and realized it wasn't because she was out of energy. They were on a slope, and Wen Jung-woo was still running uphill, even though she had stopped chasing.
Cupping her hands around her mouth, Lee Soon-gyu shouted, "Hey! Wen Jung-woo! Where are you going?"
Wen Jung-woo turned back, smiled, and continued walking without answering.
Lee Soon-gyu was really tired. She stumbled and fell into the snow. When she finally stood up, she found that Wen Jung-woo had disappeared around a corner. She was surprised; it seemed like he had a purpose. Was there something special up there?
Biting her lip, Lee Soon-gyu stumbled up the slope, even though she was very tired. Curiosity can kill a cat, let alone a snowy slope.
She had long suspected that he came here to clear his mind, thinking he was looking for that girl, so she followed him. She wanted to see what kind of beauty could make him suffer so much yet still protect her.
Unexpectedly, she didn't see the beauty but found an unexpected situation. Or... did the little beauty student have a secret meeting here?
