Chapter 8

The lead male deer was proud and alert, looking around as it cautiously approached the riverbank.

The ironclad tiger hiding in the woods was clearly a novice; the deer herd did not go to the riverbank with dense trees to drink water but only passed by the forest cautiously.

The ironclad tiger initially remained calm and did not rush to attack when the deer herd approached the forest—after all, it was not the best time to attack from a distance.

However, when the deer herd passed the forest and moved further away, the ironclad tiger finally could not hold back. With a sudden rustle, two ironclad tigers leaped out from the forest, flanking the deer herd and charging at them.

This hunt was clearly futile; the speed of the thunder deer far exceeded that of the ironclad tigers. In a blink, eight shadows darted away like lightning, even the two young deer were much faster than the ironclad tigers.

After the commotion, the two ironclad tigers lay on the ground, panting heavily. The herd of thunder deer, however, calmly circled back and cautiously approached the riverbank.

This time, they chose an open area, deliberately avoiding even the sparse grass.

But it must be said, their luck was truly bad; they chose a position right between the grass where Chen Taizhong and another person were hiding.

The grass where Chen Taizhong was hiding was particularly sparse—it was not naturally grown.

Thus, the position chosen by the thunder deer was relatively close to him.

Chen Taizhong began to prepare quietly, but at that moment, a sharp voice shouted, "Bind!"

A rope fell from the sky, firmly binding a young thunder deer. It was the person in the other patch of grass who saw the situation and acted first.

"Damn it," Chen Taizhong cursed, feeling that the other person was unfairly taking his prey—clearly, it was on his territory.

However, he had no intention of fighting over a single deer; he was after the antlers, which were worth 250 spirit points.

As the deer was bound, two people, one tall and one short, rushed out from the opposite shrubs.

They were clearly partners, Chen Taizhong sighed, only he was a lone soul.

"Kid, help me hold them off," the tall one shouted, "I'll give you 30% of the loot!"

Are you feeling superior for抢怪 (taking my prey)? Chen Taizhong sat there motionless, pretending not to hear.

"You!" The tall one stomped his foot in anger, but he had no time to react. The male deer's antlers flashed with electricity, and a bolt of lightning struck him.

The tall one's body stiffened, his hair standing on end. Before he could react, a young thunder deer, with two protrusions on its head, also released a bolt of lightning, striking him again.

His body trembled, and a faint white smoke rose from his nose and mouth.

"Does the young one know how to follow up?" Chen Taizhong was amazed, thinking that the young deer's protrusions might also be valuable.

However, the most powerful attacker was still the male deer. It released a bolt of lightning, then after about five seconds, another bolt, this time aimed at the short one.

But the short one displayed a fighting ability that did not match his size. He first trembled, then charged towards the bound young deer.

The young deer struck again, and the short one trembled once more but continued to move forward.

Several female deer also opened their mouths, spitting out balls of lightning at the short one. Although his body did not stiffen, he moved with difficulty, trembling with each strike.

In a flash, the battle entered a heated phase.

The short one seemed to be wearing some kind of armor, Chen Taizhong noticed this detail. Then he saw the two ironclad tigers, who had been panting, stand up and slowly walk over from a distance.

The deer herd, originally trying to save the young deer, saw the situation and realized they might not be able to escape if they stayed. They began to retreat slowly, still releasing electricity.

As the two ironclad tigers approached, the male deer finally let out a long cry and turned to flee. The other thunder deer followed suit.

No beast or human could catch up to a thunder deer determined to escape.

However, at that moment, an unexpected event occurred. A black shadow shot out like an arrow.

It was a strange object, resembling a large mushroom with two long braids trailing from the cap, dragging on the ground and making a rustling sound as it moved.

Most incredibly, this mushroom had two legs, truly a bizarre sight.

The male deer, seeing this sudden appearance, instinctively released a bolt of lightning. Two female deer also spat out balls of lightning, aiming to strike the obstacle.

Chen Taizhong, seeing the deer herd panic and choose his direction, was overjoyed and immediately leaped out to intercept them.

As three bolts of lightning approached, he slightly lowered his head, using the iron pot on his head to block them. Then, he pulled out the long sword he had extorted and, with all his might, slashed at the male deer's neck.

The deer herd did not expect this thing to be immune to lightning. They were accustomed to their skills being invincible.

Seeing the flash of the blade, the male deer's body suddenly swayed. Despite the suddenness, even with its quick reaction, it was still cut across half its neck.

Chen Taizhong was also unsure if the sword could penetrate the defense. Feeling the heavy, meat-cutting sensation, he channeled his immortal energy into the sword and, with a swift motion, threw it at the male deer.

The next moment, the long sword firmly embedded itself in the male deer's neck.

The male deer staggered a few steps, realizing it could not escape, and tried to self-destruct its antlers. However, it was too late, and it lacked the strength.

Chen Taizhong walked forward, picked up the large thunder deer, and put it into his storage bag. He then turned and looked coldly at the others.

At this point, the tall and short duo had already caught the young deer and placed a restriction on it. The two ironclad tigers were about 400 to 500 meters away.

Both knew of Chen Taizhong's existence and did not consider him a threat.

Chen Taizhong glanced at them, put away the iron pot, and walked towards the valley exit. After completing the task, he would receive 250 spirit points, plus the 100+ points he had extorted yesterday, allowing him to practice in the city for a while.

The immortal energy in the city was much more abundant than in the wild, and the concentration of energy in a rented room was even higher.

"Wait a moment, friend," a clear voice called out. Chen Taizhong turned to see the short one speaking.

It turned out to be a woman, but in the heat of battle, she was dressed in combat gear, and he had not noticed.

The woman looked at him and asked, "Do you know which part of the thunder deer you want?"

"The whole deer is mine, and which part I want is my business," Chen Taizhong replied coldly, still angry about their earlier behavior.

"Alright, friend, my sister doesn't know how to speak," the tall one walked over, his hair still standing on end, his face black and white, and a slight burning smell lingering on his body.

He spoke expressionlessly, "If your goal is just the antlers, can you sell the other parts?"

The most valuable part of a thunder deer was its antlers, especially since the antlers often self-destruct. The other parts were not very valuable.

"I have no interest in selling," Chen Taizhong firmly refused and walked away.

"Meeting is a form of destiny," the tall one blocked his path, speaking in a sinister tone, "You are a second-level wandering immortal, so you should think carefully... I plan to buy from you."

"Destiny? You chased me away yesterday and抢怪 (took my prey) today... I don't value this destiny," Chen Taizhong smiled slightly.

"If you don't give me face, don't blame me for being impolite," the tall one narrowed his eyes, a fierce light in them, "The senior with you can't say I'm bullying you."

These two were clearly of a higher level than Chen Taizhong. They did not force the issue now because they were wary of the middle-aged man from yesterday—though they did not show themselves, such a big event could not escape notice.

"Those who take my things will pay a price," Chen Taizhong pulled out the long sword from his storage bag, took a deep breath, and pointed the sword downward, "Come on."

"Listen, you," the woman spoke again, her eyes wide, "If we hadn't bound the young deer, could you have killed the male deer? It would have run away... You, a second-level wandering immortal, couldn't catch it."

Chen Taizhong's face darkened, pointing at her and then at the tall one, "Less talk, don't think I'm a second-level wandering immortal and can't get angry. You two will regret it."

The brother and sister exchanged a glance, their eyes full of defiance—how dare he be so arrogant.

The brother was especially不服 (unconvinced), but the next moment, as Chen Taizhong turned to leave, he opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing.

Chen Taizhong wanted to leave but could not. The two ironclad tigers blocked his path. In a bad mood, he channeled his immortal energy into the sword and thrust it forward.

The two ironclad tigers, sensing that the person in front of them was not very strong, but the sword thrust gave them a sense of overwhelming power, quickly moved aside.

They moved aside, and Chen Taizhong walked, but the two ironclad tigers followed closely behind.

This was truly frustrating. If he fought, they would run fast, and he might not win. If he didn't fight, they would keep following, always a threat from behind.

After a while, a clear female voice called out from a distance, "How can you be so stupid? Thunder deer are the favorite food of ironclad tigers... throw a leg to them, and you can leave."

(There will be an update at midnight, and I'm reserving votes for Monday's recommendation.)
