Chapter 1

"Those who have no will to fight and are useless are not needed in my party! Therefore, I hereby banish you!"
It was the hero, who was supposed to stand as the beacon of hope for the world, who said this to me—Ishua.
"Why? I have been contributing to the party as a Mana Porter!"
"Don't get cocky, you good-for-nothing who can only transfer mana!!"
The hero said this without trying to hide his displeasure.
"There are plenty of people who can supply mana! You can't even use magic or stand on the front lines. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?!"
A Mana Porter is the lowest-ranking job, a fallback for those who can't use magic. The hero believed this, but it wasn't true.
"Without me, the party will run out of mana and won't be able to fight properly."
"Shut up! How dare you talk back, you good-for-nothing!!"
"The party's mana consumption is too high. The king himself emphasized that the party can only function with a Mana Porter."
"Ridiculous. You must have ingratiated yourself, right? It's annoying to see you gain experience just by standing there!"
I was speechless at the absurdity of his claim. Despite my desperate efforts to supply mana, the hero saw it as if I had done nothing.
"You should reconsider. The Demon World we're heading to isn't as lenient as you think. You can't fight without mana."
"Don't worry about it. I have the holy sword Excalibur!"
"Don't you need mana to wield that?"
The hero's holy sword, Excalibur, consumes a vast amount of mana. Even the holy sword, which has defeated many enemies, would lose its luster without mana.
"Shut up!! My level has increased, and so has my mana limit! I've never run out of mana before!"
"That's because I was transferring mana to you."
The Holy Maiden, the Great Sage, and the Magic Sword Knight. The hero's party was filled with jobs that used a lot of mana. I had to be very careful to replenish the mana that quickly ran out.
"Hahaha. Don't be ridiculous! There's no way you, a good-for-nothing, could do that!"
"What do the others say about it?"
"…Hmph, this is the result of our discussion. Everyone agreed that you are not needed in this party."
The hero hesitated for a moment but then said this.
(So, my efforts were not recognized by anyone.)
I had tried my best to be useful since joining the hero's party. I had always been there to help the members when they needed advice. I thought we had built a good relationship, but it was just to console me, a useless person.
"I understand, Sir Hero. I won't say anything more. If you insist, I will leave the party."
"Hmph, you should have said that from the beginning. It's a fitting end for a good-for-nothing."
The hero smiled smugly.
In truth, I didn't have much attachment to the title of being in the hero's party. While it did grant certain privileges, I also had a strong desire to make a name for myself as an adventurer from scratch.
"One last piece of advice. You might want to learn how to fight without relying on mana."
"You don't need to worry about that, good-for-nothing. Get out of here quickly!"
(Why is he in such a hurry? It's as if he's trying to hide something...)
I tilted my head in confusion and left the hero's party.
---
In fact, my suspicion was not wrong. This banishment was the hero's unilateral decision, without consulting the other party members. The foolish hero had not yet realized that he had taken a step towards an irreversible downfall.
