Jingyun Martial Academy's Library.
Although it was a tower structure, the space inside the library was still quite large. Entering through the main door on the ground floor, one would immediately see a rockery nearly two zhang (about 6.6 meters) high.
The rugged rocks and lush vegetation were adorned with a clear spring that overflowed from the crevices, splashing down into a small pond below like jade pillars rolling on a plate. The ripples and water lilies floated gently, and several koi fish played among them.
Further inside were rows of massive bookshelves, neatly arranged in dozens of lines. All the wooden shelves were piled high with thick books, and the faint scent of paper and ink greeted one's nose.
On the left was a staircase leading to the upper floors, while on the right was a long counter. Behind the counter, the walls were hung with hundreds of bamboo tags, all painted a bright red.
When Wei Changfeng arrived, two academy disciples were busy behind the counter, one copying books and the other organizing.
Since the library's opening hours were limited, no students would come to exchange or purchase martial techniques on non-opening days, so the vast library was very quiet.
"Cough, cough!"
Wei Changfeng walked to the counter and lightly coughed.
The disciple who was writing quickly raised his head, startling Wei Changfeng!
Because half of his face was swollen and red, with purple and blue finger marks, his mouth and nose were all twisted, clearly indicating that he had been slapped hard on the face. His appearance was as pitiful as it could be!
Wei Changfeng estimated that even his mother might not recognize her son if she were standing here.
"You... what are you here for, hiss~"
The copying disciple's speech was severely slurred, and upon closer inspection, he was missing several teeth!
"Today... hiss... is not the library's open day, so no martial techniques can be exchanged."
Wei Changfeng shook his head inwardly, placed the task tag from Qingyun Hall in front of him, and said, "I have been ordered to serve in the library. Please, Senior Brother, make it convenient for me."
Clack!
The pen in the copying disciple's hand fell to the ground. He stared blankly at the task tag on the counter, his eyes vacant.
When Wei Changfeng thought he might be having some kind of seizure, the copying disciple turned around and shouted at the other disciple who was cleaning, "Senior Brother, our task has been taken over!"
He was so excited that his whole body trembled, and his voice was so loud it could have lifted the roof!
The cleaning disciple immediately dropped his broom and ran over in two quick steps, grabbing the task tag on the counter and laughing uncontrollably, "Great, great, great!"
This disciple looked unharmed, but his mental state was clearly abnormal, acting like a madman, especially the terrifying light in his eyes.
"Are you two wailing? If you want to leave, do it quickly. If you don't want to leave, stay here!"
A sinister voice suddenly came from upstairs.
Upon hearing this voice, both the copying disciple and the cleaning disciple immediately clamped their mouths shut, their eyes filled with fear.
They scrambled out from under the counter and ran towards the door.
The copying disciple ran a few steps, then turned back, leaned close to Wei Changfeng's ear, and whispered, "Junior Brother, thank you for your hard work... hiss... remember, never disobey the Senior Master's orders!"
He patted Wei Changfeng's shoulder forcefully, his pig-like face showing sympathy, and then followed his companion out of the library without looking back.
Wei Changfeng felt a mix of amusement and bewilderment, but this also confirmed the library's terrifying reputation.
To think, his predecessor had never come to the library in two years at the academy.
Because his predecessor never had enough money to buy martial techniques or manuals, and even if he could afford them, he couldn't afford the fees to have them explained by the Senior Masters in the Martial Hall, he had spent two years practicing the free True Qi Breathing Technique and basic boxing.
Under such circumstances, his ability to cultivate to the Third Level of Body Tempering was entirely due to his talent!
"New kid, get up here quickly!"
The voice from upstairs interrupted Wei Changfeng's thoughts.
Wei Changfeng steadied his mind and followed the stairs on the left to the second floor of the library.
The layout of the second floor was similar to the ground floor, but without the rockery. The empty space was scattered with several straw mats and a wooden table.
The table was full of wine bottles, plates, and large, greasy pieces of pork ribs and braised meat, emitting a strong, pungent smell that made one's stomach turn.
The floor was littered with chewed bones, but fortunately, the cold weather kept the flies away; otherwise, it would have been a disgusting mess, like a garbage heap!
An old man sat in the middle of the mess, eating voraciously. He held a wine bottle in his right hand and a large, greasy piece of meat in his left, chewing with his mouth full, drooling and splattering his clothes.
However, his clothes were already filthy, and it was unclear how long they had not been changed, just looking at them could make one vomit.
The old man was tall and very thin, almost skeletal, with high cheekbones that made him look like a thin-skinned skeleton. His hair was messy, like a bird's nest.
What left the deepest impression on Wei Changfeng were his eyes, which glinted with a light that was sometimes calm and sometimes fierce, changing unpredictably!
Ouyang Feng, the head of the Jingyun Martial Academy's library!
Wei Changfeng took a deep breath, stepped forward, and bowed, saying, "Disciple Wei Changfeng, ordered to serve in the library for fifteen days, pays respects to the Senior Master!"
Ouyang Feng swallowed the fatty meat in his mouth, glanced at Wei Changfeng, and muttered, "Those b*stards from Qingyun Hall, I don't know what they're up to, sending over one worse batch of kids after another!"
He asked disdainfully, "Kid, you're only at the Second Level of Body Tempering, right?"
Wei Changfeng was surprised. Unless one was being tested or in a match, it was hard to discern another's cultivation level. This "Mad Elder" had sharp eyes.
He replied calmly, "Yes, I've only been in the academy for four days."
Ouyang Feng chuckled, "So you must have offended someone, sending you here to be dealt with by this old man. They're getting more and more skilled at this, not even sparing new disciples!"
Wei Changfeng was startled but remained silent.
Ouyang Feng continued, "I might as well tell you, dozens of academy disciples have died at my hands. Even if you regret it now, it's too late. It's easy to enter the library, but hard to leave!"
He looked at Wei Changfeng with a cat-toying-with-a-mouse expression, hoping to see him panic.
But to Ouyang Feng's disappointment, Wei Changfeng showed no signs of distress, as if he had expected this.
He walked to the opposite side of Ouyang Feng and sat down, ignoring the filth on the ground.
Under Ouyang Feng's slightly stunned gaze, Wei Changfeng picked up a piece of fatty meat from the table, took a bite, and chewed a few times.
This impolite action made Ouyang Feng furious. His face twitched, his eyes turned blood-red, and he looked like a beast ready to pounce at any moment!
The notorious reputation of the Mad Elder of the library was not exaggerated!
But Wei Changfeng seemed unaware of the danger he was in. He swallowed the meat calmly and said, "This is water python meat, from a hundred-year-old demon python, stewed for at least ten hours with thirty-year-old black ginseng, rehmannia, pig's treasure, red blood grass, purple wisteria root, and tiger meat in a purple clay pot. Not bad!"
Hearing this, Ouyang Feng's murderous aura subsided slightly, and he said in surprise, "I didn't expect you to know so much, even able to describe this 'Dragon Tiger Battle of the Yellow and Black' clearly. You have some talent!"
"But do you think I'll let you off just because of that? Naive!"
He stared at Wei Changfeng, his voice filled with menace, "When I'm not in a good mood, I won't let others be happy either! But don't worry, I won't kill you. It's more fun to torment you slowly."
Ouyang Feng's eyes were terrifying, clearly showing that he was not joking.
Wei Changfeng smiled slightly and said, "Senior Ouyang, I know more than you think. I also know that while the 'Dragon Tiger Battle of the Yellow and Black' has many benefits, it can only temporarily alleviate your Yang Fiery Body Suffering, and it's like drinking poison to quench thirst!"
"What!"
Ouyang Feng's face changed abruptly, and he suddenly grabbed Wei Changfeng's shoulder, shouting, "Who are you? Who sent you? Speak up!"
Crack!
In his extreme shock, he used some true strength, actually cracking Wei Changfeng's shoulder bone!
Wei Changfeng endured the pain, met his gaze filled with brutality, and said firmly, "I came here because someone wants to harm me. Recognizing your condition is my skill."
"I only ask you one question: Do you want to cure your internal injuries?"
"Can you cure my internal injuries?"
Ouyang Feng's body trembled, the brutality in his eyes vanished, replaced by surprise and doubt.
He slowly released his grip and stared at Wei Changfeng, saying, "I'll give you a chance to speak. If you lie, I'll kill you immediately!"
Wei Changfeng did not speak but undid his shirt to expose his shoulder.
His left shoulder was already bruised and swollen, with clear finger marks, and the injury was not light.
Wei Changfeng took out three silver needles from his pocket, inserted them into three acupoints on his shoulder, and gently manipulated them, injecting a thread of pill energy to promote blood circulation and healing.
If not treated in time, his left arm would be immobile for a long time.
Seeing this, the Mad Elder Ouyang Feng, who made everyone in the Jingyun Martial Academy shudder, blushed and looked a bit embarrassed!
