Chapter 25 of 100
Chapter 25

Quentin himself was a descendant of the Rand family, who had served the Church for a thousand years. However, this had only earned him the position of a book servant, not even a candidate knight. So, how could a weak, poor, and ordinary person like Imir, who grew up in Hell's Kitchen, become a full member?
The Guardian became unusually angry, looking like a powder keg ready to explode at any moment.
"Quentin Rand!" He forgot his duty and shouted without restraint!
Quentin was terrified by the Guardian's anger, his face turning pale. The Guardian glared at him furiously, "You actually said that Mr. Imir is the descendant of a commoner? I swear, his bloodline is a million times more sacred than your Rand family's!"
He looked at Imir respectfully and asked humbly, "Mr. Imir, can you tell us your name? I mean, your full name!"
Imir was also curious about the Guardian's unusual behavior. He searched his memories. He was just a poor and ordinary student from Columbia University's Divinity School, who grew up in Hell's Kitchen.
Apart from that, he had no other identity. Could there be some secret hidden in his name? Imir closed the book in his hand, placed it gently aside, stood up, and smiled, saying, "My name is Imir Freddy Longinus!"
"Long... Longinus..." Quentin was thrown to the ground by the Guardian, mumbling something inaudible.
He finally mustered the courage to ask, "What is Longinus?"
Quentin had learned the history of the Church from his father, but he had never heard of a Longinus family under the Church.
Moreover, it wasn't that Quentin doubted the Guardian's words; he just found it hard to believe that a descendant of a thousand-year-old family could live so miserably, and even harder to believe that any bloodline could be a million times more sacred than the Rand family's!
"Shut up! You are blaspheming the Holy Spirit!" the Guardian commanded, "I know your Rand family has achieved a little in the field of new genetic science, and I know your Rand family has served the Church for over a thousand years, but that doesn't mean you have the right to be insolent in front of a descendant of Longinus!"
Even Quentin, who had bullied Imir countless times before, would obediently shut his mouth when faced with the Guardian's furious glare.
The Guardian raised his voice, each word loud and clear, "Mr. Imir, perhaps you don't know, but you are a descendant of the gods, with divine blood flowing through your veins."
"Divine blood?" Imir raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of time and space intertwining.
When did the Church start using the term "descendant of the gods"?
All the readers on the 18th floor were equally shocked by the Guardian's outburst. For a moment, all that could be heard was the sound of "thud, thud, thud" as many cherished magical books fell onto the carpet.
The Guardian was so angry that he didn't even notice everyone's attention was on him. His eyes were only on the noble Mr. Imir, and he said respectfully, "Mr. Imir, do you know how excited Father Terence was when he received your application to join the Knights?"
Everyone who could hear the Guardian clearly instinctively checked their ears, suspecting that their English skills had declined, causing them to misunderstand the Guardian's words.
What a joke, to be able to apply to join the Knights of St. John, what a great honor?
It was always the Knights of St. John who carefully selected those who applied to join, how could the situation the Guardian described ever happen?
In fact, the Guardian's position was too low; he was just a senior candidate knight in the Knights of St. John. He only knew the general details of the Knights' affairs. After receiving Imir's application, not only was Father Terence ecstatic, but even the Grand Master of the Knights of St. John was overjoyed.
He quickly gathered the other eleven Holy Knights of the Church and issued a certificate signed by all twelve Holy Knights that night. All the usual tests were waived, and Imir's application was immediately approved.
Each Holy Knight was the Church's top combat force, not inferior to Magneto, Professor X, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, or Doctor Doom, even among the mutants.
But even they would not think that a descendant of Longinus was unqualified to join the Knights of St. John.
This has to be traced back to the origin of the "Holy Knights." The original term for Holy Knight is "Paladin," derived from "Palatinus."
"Palatinus" means "belonging to the Palatine Hill." This Latin word referred to high-ranking officials and nobles associated with the Palatine Hill in ancient Rome. Since this hill was the site of the Roman imperial palace, "Palatinus" was often used to refer to courtiers who served the Roman emperor and handled state affairs.
In the Middle Ages, the twelve most outstanding knights under Charlemagne were called the "Twelve Peers," meaning "twelve intimates," indicating that they were the emperor's closest and most trusted advisors, the highest-ranking courtiers in the Carolingian dynasty of the Franks, and high-ranking nobles with status equal to the royal family.
All the Holy Knights knew this history, even if they were not all familiar with the lives of every recorded Holy Knight. But there was one person everyone knew: the first Grand Master of the Holy Knights—Longinus!
The Longinus mentioned here is not Imir, but the Roman centurion Longinus who ultimately killed Jesus with a spear.
In the story, Longinus was originally a warrior who had lost his sight in battle. When he pulled the spear from Jesus' body, the divine blood that splashed into his eyes miraculously healed him.
One could say that Longinus carried the only drop of divine blood left by Jesus in the world. The blood of the Son of God merged with Longinus' blood, and because of this, after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, Longinus did not suffer the same fate as Judas, who betrayed Jesus, but instead became one of the earliest and most sacred saints of the Church.
Even after the passage of time, the blood of the Son of God in the Longinus family has been passed down through generations. This has been confirmed by the joint examination of the twelve Holy Knights of the Church. In this world, there will be no one more pure than Imir.
(Tapxue's note: Next, using Quentin, we will start the Spider-Man storyline, and the divine blood in Imir's body is also the key to unlocking the Dracula and Blade storylines. I didn't want to spoil it, but the readers are right; these chapters are indeed too slow-paced, so it's better to briefly explain the setup of the foreshadowing.)
