Quentin believed he had the right to say these words. His tone was slow and annoying: "Yes, this is the new technology center invested in by the Hardy family, but do you know who the keynote speaker at tonight's gala is?"
"I don't know." Ymir wasn't interested in this. Even when he was alive, he had studied theology, which was completely different from technology.
"Of course you don't know, because the most important figure appearing tonight is my father, Herbert Randon." With his father's backing, Quentin's tone became somewhat lofty. He wished he could puff out two white streams from his nose to prove how impressive he was.
Ymir hummed, hoping Quentin would finish his nonsense and leave him alone.
"Do you know my father?" Quentin continued to ask.
"I don't know." Ymir couldn't remember any superhero named Randon. Perhaps he was just a minor character, the kind who gets killed off in the first few minutes of a TV series.
"Do you know what the X-gene is?" Ymir didn't speak, but he noticed that Claudia, standing beside Quentin, moved slightly, looking very nervous.
Quentin was delighted to see the confusion in Ymir's eyes. He shrugged and said, "How ignorant and foolish. You will never know how vast this world is, or the incredible people and powers that exist in it. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
If he was referring to the X-Men, Ymir, though he couldn't remember much from the movies he watched in his past life, still knew more than Quentin. Besides, even if Quentin knew more, so what?
Ymir could sense that he had no power fluctuations, not even as much as the mysterious woman disguised as Claudia. However, Ymir didn't feel obligated to educate Quentin.
"Alright, Ymir, stop pretending to be stupid and leave. For Father Terence's sake, I won't hold it against you."
After saying this, Quentin pointed to the door again, but this time he was a bit more polite and softer in his tone. He suddenly remembered that although Ymir was a poor kid from Hell's Kitchen, Father Terence stood behind him.
After being rejected by the Saint John's Knights' library, Quentin went home and thoroughly investigated the library's background. He then understood why his father was willing to pay a huge price to get him in.
It was the nerve center of the Church's combat forces. After joining the Knights, one could not only gain a new status but also learn many legendary magics.
One could even meet the immortals and the powerful figures who reviewed the candidates for knighthood, including Father Terence.
Apart from the twelve Saint Knights in the Vatican, Father Terence was the only clergyman with such privileges. No wonder his father went to great lengths to please Father Terence.
But how close was Ymir's relationship with Father Terence?
He didn't need to deliberately investigate; he could deduce it from the information he had. Father Terence had always been the head of Saint John's Cathedral. Other churches might have personnel changes, but Saint John's Cathedral was independent and autonomous.
This meant that Father Terence had been stationed here since he joined the Church. It wasn't until three years ago, when he agreed to serve as a professor at Columbia University's Divinity School, that he began to venture out of Saint John's Cathedral.
As Father Terence's first student, Ymir had the longest contact with him.
Even Quentin himself was only transferred to the Divinity School by his father in the second year to study under Father Terence.
He heard that Ymir had been a bookworm since childhood, good at nothing but studying. Such a student might be exactly what a teacher loves. So, based on this, Father Terence might have favored Ymir.
It wasn't because of any ulterior motives, but perhaps just a simple teacher-student relationship.
This relationship, while simple, wasn't a big deal once you saw through it...
Thinking about it, it made perfect sense. As a teacher, one naturally hopes their students excel. So Father Terence might have specially approved Ymir to read in the Saint Knights' library. After all, the highest-ranking clergyman in charge of the library was Father Terence himself, so opening a small backdoor wasn't a big deal.
Quentin thought a lot but couldn't come up with a more reasonable explanation.
Once he understood this, the rest was simple...
Why did Claudia, Ymir's first love, suddenly change her attitude and accept his pursuit? It must be because this bookworm, to please the priest, devoted all his time to studying and neglected his girlfriend.
Quentin was secretly envious. He had been a book servant in the Saint Knights' library for two years but still hadn't been granted permission to read the mysterious magical books. Ymir, however, was lucky. Just because he was Father Terence's first student, he had such privileges.
Perhaps he had already learned some ancient spells from the books, which allowed him to escape the men Quentin sent after him.
"Just because of this, you think you can compete with me for Claudia? You're overestimating yourself!" Regardless of his character, Quentin truly had feelings for Claudia. Instead of just driving Ymir away, he might as well keep him around.
Let him listen to his father's speech and see how much influence his father had in New York's upper society. Humiliating Ymir in front of Claudia would be a great idea!
"Hehe, hehe..." Quentin laughed foolishly, lost in his fantasies. He was about to boast and mock Ymir before pretending to be magnanimous and let him go.
But when he came to his senses, he found that Ymir had somehow appeared at the other end of the science museum.
Claudia, standing beside him, looked surprised and waved her hand in front of his eyes: "Quentin, what happened to you just now?"
"What's wrong with me?" Quentin shivered, realizing something was off.
Claudia's expression was hesitant as she stammered, "You were standing here stiffly, talking to yourself... it was like you were... possessed..." In her view, Quentin wasn't possessed but rather looked dazed and childish.
