Chapter 69

In the midst of the black shadow, at least two meters tall, with a half-human, half-beast form, the entire body was covered in green spots. The two feet on the ground had three toes each, and it also had a long tail, the tip of which was as sharp as a syringe.

Although Debra had assisted Dr. Connors in researching many reptiles, seeing such a huge, upright-walking "lizard man" in person still left her speechless: "Who are you? What have you done to Dr. Connors?"

The lizard man slowly turned around, holding a long, white-wrapped object in his hands.

He looked at Debra, as if trying to recognize his female student. His pupils dilated, and his face was filled with a hideous, fierce smile, growling lowly.

Debra was terrified by the lizard man's grin. The door behind her, which had been closed, suddenly burst open, and a figure darted in: "Debra, step back!"

"Are you Spider-Man?" Debra looked at the webbed head turned away from her, not knowing how Spider-Man knew her name.

Spider-Man, who seemed to be seeing the "lizard man" for the first time, swallowed hard: "What have you done to Dr. Connors?"

Debra finally reacted, pointing to the white-wrapped object in the lizard man's hands: "Dr. Connors was taken by this monster!"

The lizard man, upon hearing the name "Connors," paused. His yellow pupils contracted, and he then picked up the package and jumped down from the windowsill: "Humans, prepare to receive the gift I have prepared for you......"

"NO! We need to rescue Dr. Connors!" Spider-Man shouted, but not to Debra.

Is there someone else here? Debra opened her eyes as the clouds slowly moved away, revealing the moonlight. Besides herself and Spider-Man, there was no third person in Dr. Connors' office.

However, a voice came from the air: "I suggest you don't chase him. I sense something very wrong about this lizard man. It's familiar, but I can't remember where I felt such a power fluctuation."

"Power fluctuation?" Spider-Man asked.

Ymir remained invisible, recalling the constant odor emanating from Dr. Connors. It was the scent of death, which he knew all too well.

Could my resurrection have altered the course of this world, leading to Dr. Connors being killed by my serum?

Then, what is this lizard man?

Spider-Man didn't think about Ymir's questions. He shook his head and said, jumping onto the windowsill: "No, the lizard monster took Dr. Connors. I have to save him!"

"I'll go with you!" After a moment's consideration, Ymir floated out of Dr. Connors' office, closely following Spider-Man into the New York sewers.

"Ymir, what was that monster, and why did he kidnap Dr. Connors?"

Since getting involved with Spider-Man, Ymir had spent a lot of time in the New York sewers. He was certain that no one would be in the sewers at night, and if someone appeared, their footsteps could be heard from a distance.

So he transformed back into a visible form: "Peter, I don't know any more than you do."

Ymir originally wanted to tell Peter the true identity of the lizard man, but the aura he sensed from the lizard man made him uncertain. Something must have changed, or it could be a hidden plot from the previous life's movie that wasn't revealed.

"You're right," Spider-Man carefully examined the footprints the lizard man left in the sewer mud, looking at the manhole cover: "He went out from here. We need to follow him quickly!"

Ymir nodded, slightly activating his dark power, and his body floated in the air as if unaffected by gravity.

Spider-Man moved along the sewer pipes, saying enviously: "Your abilities are really amazing!"

Maybe, but now isn't the time to discuss abilities. They quickly climbed out of the sewers. It looked like a high-end residential area, peaceful and quiet, with no signs of disturbance by the lizard monster.

The concrete ground hindered Spider-Man's investigation. He looked at Ymir: "I lost the lizard monster's trail. It's strange, why did he come here?"

Ymir asked: "Where is this?" He found Spider-Man's words odd.

"Dr. Connors' home is here. I've been here a few times," Peter, being Dr. Connors' most talented student, had visited his home before, but how did the lizard man know about it?

Spider-Man was puzzled, while Ymir had some suspicions but didn't say anything. Instead, he quietly followed Spider-Man into Dr. Connors' house.

As Ymir had predicted, Dr. Connors was not at home; he had disappeared with the lizard man.

In the room, Mrs. Connors and her son were having dinner. Billy asked: "Mom, why hasn't Dad come home for so long? Does he not like me and Mom anymore?"

Mrs. Connors seemed distracted, comforting her child: "I don't know, Billy. Maybe it's just because Dad's experiments are very busy......"

"Ah——"

Before she could finish, she suddenly screamed. A man in a web-patterned tight suit appeared hanging upside down on their ceiling. Mrs. Connors quickly hid little Billy behind her, stepping back several steps and shouting in fear: "Stay away! Don't come near us!"

From a certain perspective, Spider-Man's appearance was indeed quite frightening, especially to those who didn't know him. Fortunately, Ymir remained invisible; otherwise, a head suddenly appearing from the wall would have been even more terrifying.

"Don't be afraid, Mrs. Connors. I'm here to find the doctor," Spider-Man jumped down from the ceiling, realizing his entrance had frightened Mrs. Connors.

Mrs. Connors tightly protected her child, refusing: "NO! I won't let you hurt my husband!"

But little Billy poked his head out from his mother's arms, making a gesture as if shooting spider silk: "Biu, biu!"

Spider-Man touched Billy's forehead, walked to Mrs. Connors, and tried to sound as non-threatening as possible: "Mrs. Connors, I think you misunderstood. I'm here to help the doctor. What happened to him?"
