Yimir listened quietly beside him. Of course, he understood what the scientists meant by "theoretically." It meant that there was a possibility of success, but the probability of success was still only at the level of data calculations.
So even though Dr. Connors had already developed the suppressant, he didn't dare inject it into himself without further refinement.
Yimir thought that Dr. Connors had already learned his lesson from the hybrid gene agent injection.
However, now it was a situation where they had no choice. In the video, Dr. Connors said, "Margaret, I know this is difficult for you, but you must find a way to stop me, to eliminate this lizard man!"
"Mrs. Connors, do you really want to kill your husband?" Spider-Man suddenly said, stammering, "Maybe we can find a better way. This agent hasn't been tested, and applying it directly to Dr. Connors is too terrifying."
"No, I don't want to," Mrs. Connors closed her eyes, trying to appear calmer, "But Kurt is right. In this situation, we can only try our best."
She quickly walked to a corner of Dr. Connors' study, opened a safe, and took out a vial of blue liquid in a vacuum container.
After a moment of silence, Mrs. Connors handed the gene agent to Spider-Man, pressing it into his hand, "Try it, Spider-Man. I can't stop Kurt alone; it's up to you. I wish you knew more about the new gene technology. If Peter Parker were here, it would be better."
Yimir grunted, "Mrs. Connors, I know Peter is on a business trip. I guess the Daily Bugle assigned him a task."
Mrs. Connors' face turned even paler. If there were an expert around during such a scientific adventure, the danger would be much less. Yimir continued, "But it's okay. I believe Spider-Man understands this technology and is more reliable than Peter Parker!"
Spider-Man's head drooped, surprised by his image in Yimir's mind, but in front of Mrs. Connors, he could only admit, "Yes, ma'am, leave it to us. We'll do our best to bring Dr. Connors back to you safely."
Yimir chuckled, and Spider-Man suddenly darted out, "No good, my spider-sense tells me the Lizard is nearby!"
Mrs. Connors' face changed again, exclaiming, "Oh no, Billy is still in the dining room!"
Spider-Man's speed burst was almost supersonic. He instantly turned into a red whirlwind and rushed out of Dr. Connors' study. Yimir followed closely behind, sending a wave of怨念阴力 (negative energy) to attach to the Lizard, who was rampaging in the dining room.
The Lizard was about to grab his son and quickly leave, but he didn't expect Spider-Man's speed to be so astonishing.
Previously, in the dark lab, the Lizard's appearance was unclear. When Spider-Man faced him, he could see the blood-red eyes of the Lizard, filled with a fierce and terrifying gaze.
This was definitely not Dr. Connors' mind in control. Yimir met the Lizard's cruel and cold gaze and finally recognized the smell he had detected. It was indeed the scent of a hellish spirit.
Yimir cautiously floated beside Mrs. Connors, protecting her, and whispered to Spider-Man, "Don't hold back. Dr. Connors has been possessed by a spirit."
"You mean possessed by a spirit?" Spider-Man was stunned, turning around to ask.
It felt like a whimsical little spirit had randomly appeared in a Hollywood sci-fi blockbuster, which seemed out of place. In the past, the super-criminals Spider-Man had faced included those who misused high technology, mutants, or magic users.
But those were still within Spider-Man's understanding. However, Yimir's claim that the Lizard was possessed by a spirit was surprising.
In front of him was a massive, nearly three-meter-tall lizard monster covered in green scales, like a dinosaur that could walk upright, terrifying and fierce. But Spider-Man couldn't connect it with a spirit.
Yimir smiled bitterly. How could he convince Spider-Man to believe him? He couldn't say he had come back from the dead and could sense the presence of spirits and devils.
In the Lizard's eyes, Yimir was clearly detected, and he felt this invisible, floating entity was even more difficult to deal with than Spider-Man.
This was not something that could be achieved by human means. Yimir was unsure if the world's various high technologies could detect his existence. But it seemed they could only detect, not directly observe him.
The only ones who could do this, besides magic, were those spirits and angels that were not human.
For example, Mephisto could definitely see through his invisibility.
Yimir had read this information in the St. John's Knights' library. The only effective excuse to skip Father Terence's classes was to read in the library.
In recent days, Yimir had spent a lot of time in the library. Thinking of this, his eyes suddenly lit up, finding a way to convince Spider-Man, "You forgot? I'm a student at Columbia University's Divinity School. You're the expert in genetics and DNA, but in theology and demonology, that's my field!"
Professional matters should be handled by professionals, and laypeople should unconditionally cooperate.
This is one of the common principles followed by all Westerners, like the social contract theory proposed by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, which has been deeply ingrained in the Western mind for centuries.
Therefore, once Yimir mentioned his field of study, Spider-Man immediately believed him. He couldn't call Yimir by name in front of Mrs. Connors, so he lowered his voice and asked, "Specter, since he's your subject of study, can you estimate his strength based on your experience?"
"I can't say for sure, but I can confirm that his current state is not normal," Yimir regretted not reading more about exorcism in the St. John's Knights' library. Despite having access to the entire church's knowledge, he had nothing useful to offer now.
It's always regretful when you need knowledge but don't have it, but no one ever said that divinity students would definitely become exorcists after graduation. In fact, even Yimir, who had a ghostly body, never thought he would encounter spirits in the real world.
