Seeing Father Terence arrive, Ymir hurriedly got up from the bench and bowed slightly, saying, "Good evening, Father."
"Good evening, Ymir. You might be surprised, but we also open the church at midnight on Sundays."
Looking at Ymir, who was neatly dressed, Father Terence sat down in front of him, took his hand, and said happily, "It seems, my child, that you had a safe journey here."
"Yes, if you mean running through the streets of Hell's Kitchen at midnight." Ymir had no record of night travel, but he had heard stories. In fact, he was surprised that he could walk out of Hell's Kitchen so safely.
Ymir curiously glanced at the nun who was still praying with her eyes closed, seemingly unaware of their conversation, and said, "I didn't expect that someone like me would receive your attention, or perhaps that of your esteemed guest?"
Father Terence laughed heartily, then calmed down and looked seriously into Ymir's eyes, shaking his head and saying, "Believe me, my child, you are far from a small person. You are more noble than all the deacons and priests in St. John's Cathedral combined."
"Hmm?" Ymir took Father Terence's words as mere flattery and said straightforwardly, "Father, I don't know why you summoned me here at midnight."
"Ymir." The nun, who had finished her prayer, answered Ymir's question in place of Father Terence. This impolite behavior made Ymir, sitting on the back bench, slightly stunned, and he asked, "Father, who is this lady?"
He had clearly seen the wings behind the nun in the ghostly fire. She might be an angel. In the presence of such a being, Ymir hoped to maintain his secrecy as much as possible.
The nun descended from the altar, removed her hood, and revealed her face in the candlelight. Her long golden hair, which still shone attractively in the dim light, cascaded like a waterfall over her shoulders, with part of it serving as a mask, covering most of her face.
However, even just looking at the half of her face that was visible, one could tell that this lady was exceptionally beautiful. She looked at Ymir and introduced herself, "Magdalena."
Ymir, at a loss for words, nodded politely, "Hello, ma'am."
"Do you like the tranquility of the church, Mr. Ymir?" The woman's voice was full of allure, sounding seductive, yet her expression was solemn.
Ymir frowned and carefully replied, "Yes, ma'am, the church is indeed peaceful at night."
Magdalena said, "I heard from Father Terence that you have started reading books on meditation and magic."
Ymir turned to look at Father Terence, who seemed to have no authority in front of this woman. He gave a bitter smile, apologizing for his inability to help. Ymir had to face this non-human lady on his own. He nodded and said, "I have just started studying magic; it's quite fascinating."
"Don't be nervous, I was just asking casually." Magdalena's tone didn't sound as casual as she claimed. She walked up to Ymir, bent down lightly, and pressed her forehead against his.
This sudden intimate contact left Ymir at a loss. A pair of cherry-red lips drew closer, and Ymir could even feel her warm, fragrant breath, which made his heart race and his face flush with heat, almost unable to control his impulses.
This strange and unconventional contact stimulated Ymir's inexperienced body, causing his hormones to surge like a hammer, urging him to do something wonderful.
His heart beat faster, and he felt a burning sensation all over, especially where their foreheads touched, which was almost scorching.
Ymir's breathing became more rapid, and he felt as if he were about to burst into flames. However, he soon realized that while he wasn't burning, a warm and strange light was indeed emanating from his forehead.
With this white light, Ymir and Magdalena seemed to break through the boundaries of their minds, sharing each other's memories and emotions simultaneously. Ymir could only see a pure white light in Magdalena's mind, while his own memories were laid bare.
Countless fragmented memories flashed before his eyes, and Ymir immediately realized that this woman was not his girlfriend from his past life. If his guess was correct, she was at least an angel from the upper realms.
Oh, no, that's not right. Ymir couldn't even be sure whether to call her "he" or "she."
After all, the Bible doesn't specify the gender of angels.
Thinking this, Ymir felt a sudden wave of disgust. Had he just had an intimate contact with a non-human of indeterminate gender? And this non-human was also peeping into his memories!
Jesus Christ's resurrection made him the Son of God, and Ymir dared not imagine what the Church would do if they found out he had been reborn. Strictly speaking, he wasn't really reborn but rather "possessed" or "incarnated" in some way, which was certainly not the kind of resurrection the Church would approve of!
Ymir immediately opened his eyes, trying to control his rapid breathing and calm the surge of desire. The luminous light on his forehead dimmed, and Magdalena moved away from him, her large bosom swaying in front of him.
"Intelligence level 2, normal; strength level 2, normal; speed level, normal; constitution level... 7, nearly immortal... cannot release energy, no combat skills."
Magdalena recited a series of numbers expressionlessly and turned to Father Terence, "Confirmed, Mr. Ymir briefly lost his vital signs in the outskirts of New York. However, perhaps due to the Lord's protection, he has gained a stronger recovery ability and endurance."
Shaking his head, Father Terence sighed, "I understand. Mr. Ymir was not originally intended to be recruited to protect the Church."
A complex emotion flashed in Magdalena's eyes, and she nodded, "As one of the Church's Holy Knights, I oppose adding such a 'weakling' to the Holy Knight Order. However, congratulations, his identity has been confirmed as a descendant of the Longinus family—my master."
Ymir subtly moved his body away from Magdalena, feeling that this woman was not to be trifled with. He then moved to the other end of the bench and raised his right hand, like a well-behaved student, and asked, "What is this level? And did I hear correctly, did I hear the words 'master' and 'servant'?"
