Chapter 97

The Beast became anxious at once. On one hand, he did not want Herbert to harm the mutants, and on the other hand, he did not want his old friend to be hurt by the mutants. He earnestly pleaded, "Herbert, you are about to make an enemy of an entire race. You can't do that!"

"Do you think I can't? But I don't see it that way!"

Herbert walked up to a transparent container that was three meters tall, inside which a yellowish liquid was bubbling, either boiling or extremely toxic. He proudly introduced his masterpiece: "This chemical agent I designed can weaken the DNA of mutants. The physical charge it contains can also dissolve and destroy their flesh, causing those damned mutants to die completely."

"It will make the mutant cells in their bodies attack themselves, destroying the mutants' bodies. Only then can the human race be purified again."

Ymir pursed his lips. He did not expect that Herbert Landon, who looked like a successful person, would be a thorough human supremacist. An extreme, unreasonable, and excessive love for the human race, surpassing everything else.

A mad smile appeared on Herbert's face: "To verify the effectiveness of the chemical agent I designed, Dr. Hank, you will be my first live test subject. I'm truly sorry, my poor friend, this is the last honor I can give you."

The Beast became agitated. He looked at Herbert with anger and worry, growling softly, "You're completely mad, Herbert Landon!"

"Without your genius research ideas, the Brand Corporation would not have developed to its current state. How ironic, your initial research goal was to avoid turning into a furry animal..." Herbert laughed maniacally, finding it a real joke.

The prey helped the hunter dig a trap, but in the end, it was the hunter who jumped into the pit.

When Hank graduated from Xavier's school, he became the first member to leave Professor X's side. He no longer served as an X-Men and clearly stated that he hoped to serve the future of mutants in other roles.

Later, he joined a famous genetic research company, the Brand Corporation, with his outstanding scientific research level and quickly became a rising star in the biochemistry department, befriending a female assistant named Linda.

His colleague, Carl Maddox, was cold towards him. Hank was determined to develop a drug that would temporarily give ordinary people special abilities, so they could better understand mutants.

However, he discovered that Linda and Maddox were actually working for the global terrorist organization Hydra. Hank, driven by his emotions, drank an incomplete drug to fight the Hydra agents, resulting in him transforming into a furry form.

Hank, who had become a half-human, half-beast, was expelled from the Brand Corporation, but his research results remained there. This was the precursor to the chemical agent that Herbert Landon developed.

For the Beast, this drug was supposed to be a failed experimental product, but Herbert clearly did not think so.

"By the way, before that, I should first meet the new friend that Mr. Bullseye brought me with such effort." Herbert cracked his knuckles, thinking it was not yet time to sentence the Beast to death.

He took a few steps and came to an electrified cage nearby, where the Shape-Shifter was lying.

"Stop pretending, I know you're already awake." Herbert looked at Bullseye with a puzzled expression, who sneered, "Her heartbeat and breathing can't escape my ears."

As soon as Bullseye finished speaking, the Shape-Shifter leaped out of the cage. Learning from the Beast's example, she did not act rashly but looked at Herbert and Bullseye with extreme caution.

"You are Raven Darkholme, the Shape-Shifter?" Herbert took the information from his subordinate researcher and sneered, "I heard that Professor Charles and Magneto are natural enemies, but they both share the same hostility towards me."

The Shape-Shifter moved her limbs and said nonchalantly, "Herbert, do you really think your research can eliminate mutants? Don't forget, Kingpin funded you for a reason. He wants an army of mutants that he can control, not to force all mutants to become his enemies."

Herbert took a few steps back, pointing at the Shape-Shifter, "How do you know that?"

The Shape-Shifter narrowed her eyes, staring at Herbert while constantly glancing at Bullseye. After a moment, she said, "Are you Kingpin's subordinate? The Brand Corporation can't possibly have a talent like you!"

Bullseye grinned, showing his teeth, and bowed slightly to the Shape-Shifter, "You can call me Bullseye, the never-missing killer."

The Shape-Shifter nodded and said ambiguously, "Alright, Mr. Bullseye, perhaps you can weigh your options. On one side, there's the Brand Corporation's mutant army plan, which has yet to show any results, and on the other side, there's the friendly overtures of mutant leader Magneto. Perhaps, forming a partnership with Magneto is your best choice. What do you think?"

Herbert's facial muscles twitched. He knew very well how dissatisfied Kingpin was with his research direction. He was conducting his research under Kingpin's wrath.

Moreover, even without advanced knowledge of biological genetics, ordinary people could compare that naturally mutated mutants were naturally stronger than artificially enhanced super soldiers.

If Herbert focused his main efforts on developing a chemical agent to eliminate mutants, why couldn't Kingpin, the biggest boss of the criminal world, ditch him and collaborate with Magneto instead?

It was easy to imagine that once these two evil geniuses joined forces, the effect would be far more than just one plus one.

Bullseye smiled, licking his lips greedily, and deliberately looked at Herbert, "So, Mr. Herbert, what do you think?"

Herbert let out a low, angry roar from his throat and surrendered, "OK, I will submit a feasible mutant experiment report to Kingpin in the shortest time possible. Now, I'm going to send these damned bastards back to hell!"

He felt he had to disrupt any possible alliance between Kingpin and Magneto before they joined forces. Executing the Shape-Shifter was a very good idea.

Ymir stood in the laboratory, watching the enraged Herbert, and shook his head. Why bother? This was simply inviting death. Making the collaboration with Kingpin so high-profile that even Professor X, Charles Francis Xavier, and Magneto knew about the plan.
