When the voice in the walkie-talkie suddenly stopped, Professor Barker was shocked. He pressed the transmit button and shouted, "How are you now? Respond, respond, Abbott!"

There was no response from the walkie-talkie. After a moment, Professor Barker pressed the button again, "Abbott, answer me quickly, how are you, Abbott!"

Gao Yang grabbed Professor Barker's wrist and then snatched the walkie-talkie from his hand. He shouted at Professor Barker, "Professor, you should understand, Abbott is already dead. Don't waste his last effort. What you're doing is attracting the attackers. What you should do now is leave here quickly."

Professor Barker shouted, "No, I have to be responsible for my people. I have to go back, I have to return to the camp."

Gao Yang grabbed Professor Barker, who was about to run to the car, and shouted, "Do you want to go back to die? What you should do now is not to go back to the camp to die, but to take the living people away. Living people are more important than dead ones!"

At this moment, a black guard with a gun ran over, grabbed Professor Barker's hand, and shouted, "Leave here, we need to leave here, quickly. Everyone in the camp is dead. You heard it just now. Listen to him, living people are more important than dead ones! I can't let you die here."

After a painful shout, Professor Barker shouted, "We'll leave, quickly, Gao Yang, tell your people to leave with us."

Gao Yang shouted to the chief and the others, "Follow me, get on this thing."

Just as Gao Yang finished speaking, he felt a sudden heat on his face. As he instinctively reached up to wipe his face, he heard a gunshot.

When the gunshot rang out, Gao Yang was stunned to find that a black guard with a gun standing next to him had already fallen to the ground. At that moment, another gunshot rang out, and another black guard with a gun also fell to the ground.

Gao Yang realized what was happening. He pushed the professor to the ground and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Sniper, get down, get down."

After Gao Yang's shout, the group came to their senses and hurriedly fell to the ground. Gao Yang rushed over and pushed Kustow to the ground, shouting in the Akuri language, "Get down, get down on the ground."

Kathryn, lying on the ground, was somewhat panicked but still relatively calm. She whispered, "They've been following us. Who are they?"

Gao Yang's heart was pounding. He glanced around but saw no one. Although he could roughly determine the sniper's position from the gunshots, he couldn't tell where the bullets were coming from or how many snipers there were.

Gao Yang, lying on the ground, said to Professor Barker, "Find cover, go behind the car, crawl over, quickly."

Gao Yang had to repeat the same words in the Akuri language. As everyone started crawling towards the car, Gao Yang reached for a double-barreled shotgun nearby and took the ammunition belt from the black guard's waist.

The area where Gao Yang and the others were located was a vast plain, but the spot where they were hiding was a small depression, covered by tall grass. As long as they didn't stand up, they wouldn't be discovered unless the attackers approached. After Gao Yang and the others lay down, the sniper stopped shooting at them and started shooting at the car engines. Fortunately, the two cars were parked side by side, so the sniper could only hit the outer car.

Gao Yang glanced at the shotgun in his hand. It was an old-style 12-gauge double-barreled shotgun with two triggers, one for each barrel. The brand was good, made by Belgian FN, and it was well-maintained.

Gao Yang was very familiar with this type of double-barreled shotgun. When he practiced shooting, he used an Italian Beretta double-barreled shotgun, which was similar to the one he had now, except that the sport model had only one trigger.

Gao Yang opened the shotgun's breech and saw that it was loaded with two different types of ammunition: a slug and a 00 buckshot. The 00 buckshot contained nine lead pellets, while the slug was a single large lead bullet that could take down an elephant or a rhinoceros within thirty meters.

The ammunition belt had twenty-two shotgun shells, mostly 6 and 00 buckshot, with only five slugs.

Having a gun, and a familiar one at that, calmed Gao Yang a bit. However, the shotgun was only effective at close range and was useless at a distance. Gao Yang felt he needed to get the AK-47 from the other black guard.

There was a problem with getting the AK-47. The black guard's body was not only far away but also at the edge of the depression. To get the AK-47, Gao Yang would have to expose half of his body.

By this time, Professor Barker and the others had already taken cover behind the car, leaving Gao Yang still on the ground. Professor Barker whispered to Gao Yang, "Come over, we need to find a way to leave here."

Gao Yang waved at Professor Barker and then slowly crawled to the black guard's body with the AK-47. He then used his hands and feet to suddenly crawl out, grabbed the black guard's foot, and quickly pulled him down, using the body as cover to drag it into the depression.

Gao Yang could have just taken the gun and run without dragging the body, but when he saw an ammunition pack on the black guard's body, he changed his mind.

As he dragged the body, bullets whizzed past Gao Yang's ears. Despite this, he didn't forget to observe the situation. He sadly discovered that at least twenty people were approaching in a half-circle, and they were only two to three hundred meters away.

Gao Yang had to make a quick decision. He urgently told Professor Barker, "There are many of them, at least twenty. We're about to be surrounded. You must leave immediately. Don't think about the car. You and our people should go to our tribe. I'll hold them off."

"No, we should go together, quickly. We still have a chance."

Gao Yang was getting impatient and shouted, "Do you think that's possible? No one will escape if no one holds them off. Stop talking nonsense and follow our people, quickly."

After saying this, Gao Yang shouted to the chief in the Akuri language, "Take them back to the tribe, crawl, and then run when you're far enough. You can't help me by staying here. I'll come back to the tribe to find you. If you see danger, leave the tribe. I can find you."

The chief, though weak, made a gesture to follow him and started crawling out. As the chief of the tribe, he had the responsibility to lead the people back to the tribe.

Professor Barker knew Gao Yang was right. Without someone to hold them off, none of them would escape. Reluctantly, he threw the walkie-talkie to Gao Yang.

"Kathryn has another one. You can use this to contact us. I'm sure you know how to use it. May God bless you. You must come back."

After saying this, Professor Barker started crawling behind the chief, and Kathryn looked deeply at Gao Yang and said, "You are very brave, really brave. Brave people don't die easily. You will come back."

As everyone started crawling, Gao Yang tied the shotgun's ammunition belt around his waist, hung the AK-47's ammunition pack on his chest, and slung the shotgun on his back. After fully arming himself, he attached the walkie-talkie to the ammunition belt.

The ammunition pack had four magazines, plus the one in the gun, giving Gao Yang a total of 150 rifle rounds. Although the number of enemies was much greater this time, the ample ammunition made him much more relaxed than in the previous battle. At least he wasn't injured this time, making his movements easier.

By this time, Professor Barker and the others had crawled a short distance. Gao Yang took a deep breath, then crawled to the edge of the depression. He found that the approaching enemies were very close, only about a hundred meters away. At this distance, shooting at so many people, Gao Yang felt that he must either be incredibly brave or incredibly foolish.

Gao Yang didn't hesitate. He shot at the two people at the front. Although the AK-47 wasn't known for its accuracy, at a distance of only seventy to eighty meters, it was as precise as a sniper rifle in Gao Yang's hands.

The shots rang out, and the people fell. After shooting, Gao Yang immediately rolled to the side. Almost immediately, a series of bullets hit the spot where he had just fired, but Gao Yang had already quickly crawled to the other end of the depression.

The distance was very close, and Gao Yang, lying in the depression, could see the approaching enemies. They were running towards him in a line, spaced about ten meters apart.

Gao Yang aimed at the person at the front and fired, knocking him down. This time, he didn't move but quickly shifted his aim and fired three more shots.

Gao Yang fired four shots in total, hitting two people. The power of these shots made the enemies, who had been charging recklessly, more cautious. They quickly stopped and lay down.

When the running enemies stopped, Gao Yang rolled and started moving. He wasn't afraid of being hit by the enemies' shots while moving, as the hit rate while running was very low. It was a matter of luck. If he were hit, Gao Yang would have to accept his fate. However, after the enemies lay down, Gao Yang didn't dare to stay in one place and be a target.

As Gao Yang moved, he heard someone shout, "Forget about taking them alive, fire at full strength, charge, and kill them all."

Gao Yang cursed under his breath. He now understood why the enemies' actions were slower and less threatening than he had expected. They had been planning to take them alive. Now that they had given up on that, his situation would be even more dangerous.

The enemy commander ordered a full attack, but after Gao Yang's shots, no one dared to be the first to charge. Although the gunfire intensified, no one really jumped up to charge.
