23.

It was early November. The chilly weather arrived earlier than the year before. The day when DH first opened its showroom was the same day the temperature dipped below freezing.

Despite the cold weather, it was a successful opening. The showroom became so full that a long line formed outside. The line was so long that it wrapped around the entire building once.

The employees of DH were especially happy because the company gave them a surprise bonus. It was one month’s salary, so it wasn’t a huge amount, but Eunseo was ecstatic. This meant that she could leave her current home a month earlier.

Now that she knew she soon wouldn’t have to see them again, the mean things her stepmother and stepsister did no longer bothered Eunseo as much. When they ordered fried chicken just for themselves, Eunseo ordered her own and ate it in her room. Her stepmother and stepsister seemed angry and surprised.

Eunseo chose the fried chicken with cheese on top. It tasted so good that it made her happy. She was thankful to her boss for giving her such a generous bonus.

When she first realized that Kwon Jihwan didn’t want to be around her, Eunseo was sad. But it didn’t take long for her to recover from this disappointment. It wasn’t like she was planning on telling him how she felt, so what did it matter?

And if some miracle happened and Kwon Jihwan fell in love with her, which she knew was never going to happen, she was going to refuse him anyway. She refused Seo Hyunwoo, and she was going to do the same to Jihwan.

When she fell in love with her boss, her crush on Seo Hyunwoo naturally ended. It hasn’t been very long since she cried herself to sleep after rejecting Hyunwoo’s love confession. But now, she felt perfectly fine talking to him. This shocked her greatly. Eunseo had heard a long time ago that some people had two hearts when it came to love. She wondered if perhaps she was one of those people.

As a crush, Kwon Jihwan was a much easier target. Having Seo Hyunwoo as her crush was hard because she had to see him every day in the same office. But her boss was usually in his private room and she rarely saw him. It was easy to avoid him too because she could always hear someone saying, “Oh, hello Boss!”

Now that she felt nothing for Seo Hyunwoo, Eunseo felt much more comfortable at her work. When she liked him, she felt awkward and made a lot of effort to avoid him. But there was no need to do this anymore. Knowing Seo Hyunwoo was a good man, she actually wanted to get to know him better.

Seo Hyunwoo must have felt the change in Eunseo because one day, he told her.

“I’m sorry I made you uncomfortable. I’m feeling much better, and I have dealt with my feelings for you, so let’s be friends.”

It was actually Eunseo who felt sorry. She was relieved that Seo Hyunwoo was no longer in love with her, so she agreed that they should be friends. They had to continue working in the same office, so this was for the best.

At lunch, Eunseo went alone to the office cafeteria. Normally, she ate with her superior Park Heesun, but today, Heesun had a doctor’s appointment.

Now that Eunseo thought about it, Heesun has been going to the hospital often lately. Eunseo asked if she was okay, but all Heesun did was wink and reply that she’ll explain everything later.

Everyone else was also eating lunch in various groups, but Eunseo was too shy to join any of them. And lately, she felt a strange vibe from the other designers. She was the newest designer, so she has always been the outsider. But it felt even more different now. Eunseo noticed how they would whisper among themselves and stop immediately when she walked by.

Every time this happened, Hong Yeri was always among them. Since that meeting about discussing Eunseo’s booth design, Hong Yeri didn’t hide her dislike toward Eunseo. Perhaps Hong Yeri never liked her from the beginning, but it was since that meeting that Eunseo felt something was wrong.

Every time Eunseo greeted her, Hong Yeri ignored her. Whenever they had to talk for work reasons, Hong Yeri acted annoyed. It was clear Hong Yeri hated her, but Eunseo couldn’t tell why.

‘ Did I do something to offend her?’

Eunseo was eating alone quietly someone sat across from her.

It was Seo Hyunwoo.

“Ah, Hyunwoo.” Eunseo smiled. She had been feeling awkward eating alone, so she was glad to see him.

“Why are you eating alone?” asked Hyunwoo.

“Heesun has a doctor’s appointment, so she took the morning off,” Eunseo explained.

“Ah, that’s right. I remember.”
