The rental agency employee replied, “Then I’ll talk to the owner to see how soon we can get you in. I’ll text you as soon as I know, Miss Kang.”
Returning to work, Eunseo felt like dancing. She was finally going to leave that house she was so sick of. This thought was enough to want her to sing out loud on the street.
As she walked back to work, she saw a large Christmas tree in a nearby church. Eunseo was never really interested in holidays, but it seemed that her heart was feeling much lighter.
Eunseo stopped in front of the tree and thought quietly.
It was Christmas already. Since today was December 21, it was only five days away.
Suddenly, Eunseo wondered what she could get Jihwan for Christmas. She couldn’t stop thinking about it. She wanted to see the man she loves be happy with something she gave him.
But… she was worried about one thing.
‘ What if he becomes suspicious of how I feel about him?’
To Jihwan, she was just some random girl he enjoyed having sexual acts with. So if she suddenly gave him a Christmas gift, would he think that it was odd? Would Jihwan suspect that she likes him?
‘ But he gave me this expensive bag, so… I can just tell him it’s a thank you gift for this bag, right?’
Eunseo felt like this would be a reasonable excuse, so she began thinking about his gift. Just imagining different options made her happy. Eunseo was even happier now than when she went out to buy something for herself.
Eunseo stood on the street and did a quick calculation. Thanks to the bonus, she was going to have about a thousand dollars left even after paying the deposit and the moving fee.
Of course, she had no idea what she should get him. Unfortunately, this was Kwon Jihwan who probably had everything he wanted in the world.
When Eunseo couldn’t think of anything, she asked Heesun when she returned to work. Heesun was very interested in fashion and she loved to shop. She often joked that all of her salaries were spent in the department store.
“Umm, Heesun. Do you give gifts to your husband sometimes?” Eunseo was trying to be vague, but Heesun was very quick.
“Why? You want to buy a Christmas gift for your boyfriend?”
“He isn’t my boyfriend!” Eunseo denied it, but Heesun only giggled.
Heesun replied, “Sure. You got an expensive bag, so you need to repay him, of course. So what’s your budget?”
“About 1000 dollars.”
“Hmm, that’s an awkward number. It’s not enough to buy him a bag or a watch, so… What about a ring?” asked Heesun.
“But he’s not my boyfriend!” Eunseo protested. From the very beginning, she told Jihwan that nothing could happen between them. So it would have looked strange if she gave him a ring for Christmas.
Heesun suggested, “Then why don’t you spend a little bit more and buy him a laptop?”
Eunseo shook her head. Kwon Jihwan was a workaholic, which meant he had the best laptop and other work-related equipment money could buy.
“What about a wallet or shoes? Men love anything made of leather.”
Heesun made many other suggestions, but Eunseo didn’t like any of them. Eunseo was sure that everything Heesun mentioned was something Jihwan had.
“Then how about a bracelet? The brand Hermes has nice simple man’s bracelets,” Heesun suggested.
Eunseo became interested in this idea. She saw that Kwon Jihwan always wore a watch, but never a bracelet. Perhaps he didn’t even have a bracelet, which meant that he wouldn’t have something better and more expensive than what she could give him.
“But isn’t Hermes expensive?” Eunseo didn’t know anything about luxury brands, but even she knew this name. When she asked in worry, Heesun smiled.
“Men’s bracelet isn’t usually very expensive. I bought my husband one a while back, and it cost about 600 dollars. There were some more expensive ones, but they were still under 1000 dollars.”
Eunseo tried to figure out the date. Today was the 21st and it was Wednesday. The 24th and the 25th were Saturday and Sunday. This meant that she needed to give Jihwan the gift on Friday the 23rd at the latest.
“Thank you, Heesun. I’ll go to the department store tomorrow after work.”
When Eunseo replied, Heesun laughed.
“What are you talking about?” Heesun couldn’t believe how ignorant Eunseo was about these things.
Heesun explained, “Even on a weekday during the daytime, the luxury brand stores are jam-packed. You have to wait at least an hour to get in. This is Christmas, so if you go after work, you’ll never get inside.”
“Then what should I do?”
“Take tomorrow morning off and go. But not all stores have what you’re looking for so go on the interest and do your research. Decide what you want and call the customer center to make sure they have it in stock,” Heesun ordered. Being a kind caring woman, Heesun even found and wrote down the customer service number for Eunseo.
