After a while of fighting, I must have battled for about three hours. My level is now 3, and my proficiency is also 3. My stats have increased, and I've gained new skills.
Now, I'm sitting in the wasteland, taking a lunch break. It's quite a Spartan feeling, fighting for three hours straight in my first real battle.
I'm eating the bento box, which my mother made. It has octopus wiener, sweet tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), and an apple in a separate box. This apple is probably the rarest item in this dungeon.
"It's delicious, Yanya-chan!"
I put the tamagoyaki in my mouth, and it's subtly sweet. The fact that it's not too sweet makes it even more delicious. Hmm? This karaage (fried chicken) isn't from a frozen food package!
I realize the taste of the karaage in the bento and start eating it enthusiastically. Yanya is healed by the sight of Miu's cute expression and relaxes.
"Mi-sama really loves your mother's bento, doesn't she?"
"Yeah, I love Mom's bento!"
With an innocent smile, the gray-haired girl answers. Yanya smiles and picks up a thick piece of meat from her own bento box and offers it to me.
"This is Hornbear Cow steak. Please, Mi-sama, aah."
"Aah."
I don't know if it's beef or bear, but it looks expensive. So, I take a bite.
"It's delicious! What is this?"
While chewing, I can't help but exclaim in surprise. I've heard that edible monster meat is delicious, but the fat is abundant, and it pairs well with the lean red meat, making it incredibly tasty. I'm afraid to ask the price.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it."
"I'll give you an octopus wiener in return, aah."
"Aah."
The scene of the cute girls enjoying their lunch is healing, and everyone is relaxed.
I think about it while happily eating my lunch.
"Magical Night" is an RPG that many gamers have played. This system is said to be a collection of the best parts of major, well-known games.
Basic level and job proficiency exist. When the number of battles reaches a certain point, proficiency levels up. Battles with lower-level monsters are also effective, but only with monsters.
At odd proficiency levels, you can add magic or martial skills. At even proficiency levels, you can add physical abilities.
For example, a Priest's physical ability plus is MP increase.
★ Magic I or Martial Skill I
★★ Physical Ability +
★★★ Area Magic I or Special Skill I
★★★★ Physical Ability +
★★★★★ Magic II or Martial Skill II
★★★★★★ Physical Ability +
★★★★★★★ Area Magic II or Special Skill II
★★★★★★★★ Physical Ability +
★★★★★★★★★ Magic III or Martial Skill III
Do you understand? All jobs follow this rule. Proficiency goes up to ★9. Gamers might say, "I've seen this before." The names of the spells are usually I to III.
This is considered a destruction of the original work, and heavy fans have complained. Indeed, there were no I or III spells.
But I like this kind of game, so I played it thoroughly. I thought that as long as it's fun, it doesn't matter if it destroys the original. After all, the magic used by the characters in the novel is all different, and it couldn't be made into a game. In the game, only the novel's characters could use such special named spells.
As for unique skills, for a Priest I, it's like this:
Priest I: 50% increase in bludgeoning weapon damage, Turn Undead, Holy and Dark resistance, 100% increase in Holy Magic power.
In other words, it increases the attack power of equipped items, has a unique special skill, and boosts the power of dedicated martial skills or magic.
There are 12 types of attributes. Except for the universal attribute, you can nullify, absorb, or reflect them. The universal attribute only has resistance and cannot be defended against with magic.
Attributes: Slash, Bludgeon, Pierce, Fire, Wind, Water, Lightning, Earth, Holy, Dark, Null, Universal
12 basic combat jobs.
4 production jobs.
5 hybrid jobs.
3 hidden jobs.
1 pay-to-play job.
The rest is job advancement. Only basic jobs have ranks. When proficiency reaches Master, you can advance to a higher rank, from I to IV.
Once you obtain a spell or skill, you can use it even if you change jobs. The only exception is unique skills.
If a third party sees this system, they would think it's a shortcut. Yeah, I think so too.
But it gets worse.
"Magical Night" is a classic fantasy work from a time when the job system was not yet common.
In other words, there are no jobs or levels. There's no ultimate hybrid job like "Hero." The protagonist is definitely not a hero. At 12 years old, you don't go to a temple and receive a job from a god.
For Yanya, it's a mage who has awakened to the dark attribute. That's it.
She can use swords, clubs, and spears. The attack power doesn't change based on the weapon. There are special equipment items, but there's nothing you can't equip, and you can use powerful magic.
Yeah, I get it, I get it. I understand.
Actually, the game version is a destruction of the original work. It's a major destruction. It doesn't follow the novel at all. It feels like they forced it to fit an existing RPG. While it's not correct, it's not wrong, and the setting is somewhat gray.
Moreover, it has a subtle open world, various events, and a wide variety of equipment. You can get a second job at level 50, and you can remove the level cap with a payment if you're level 99 or higher.
The production company shamelessly tried to sell it to gamers, using the excuse that it's a novel adaptation. They copied systems from other games and used an old system. Real-time combat? It feels like a system from decades ago.
However, if they had made it a popular solo action game, it would have failed. The production company deserves credit for that. I liked retro RPGs, so I played it thoroughly.
At the time, gamers mocked it as "Final Dragon Reincarnation." But it was a game that picked the good parts from other games, and while the naming was a shortcut, it was fun.
The big fans of the original work were furious. Of course, it's understandable. They also released more powerful weapons and jobs than in the original. It's a common issue with game adaptations.
So, I ended up living in the world of "Magical Night" as a game player who destroys the original work.
I can't use spells that don't exist in the game, and I can't use mana unless I select the "Fight" command in battle. I'll try to use the spells from the novel, but I have a feeling it's hopeless. If I think of it as a disadvantage of getting stronger, I can accept it, but it's a shame. ...No, I won't give up. It's the same mana, after all. It's just called MP in my case.
I doubt it, but is it "Mana Points"? I'm not the only one using "Magic Points," right? I'm not in a different world, right? No, I can activate the "Magic Armor," so it must be mana, yeah.
Since it follows the novel, I can understand some things. For example, healing magic.
A Priest can use "Minor Healing I," which can recover about 8 to 12 HP. For a regular person, this is a full recovery.
However, it doesn't work well on mages. Why? Mages have resistance to magic. This resistance isn't limited to attack magic. So, "Minor Healing I" can only heal minor injuries.
Do you understand? The HP recovery amount is represented like this. In the game, a powerful mage might have 100 HP. In reality, that would be strange. A regular person could have the same HP, and "Minor Healing I" could fully heal them.
But when you add the concept of resistance, the more powerful the mage, the more resistance they have, so they need a powerful healing spell to recover. This is why the maximum HP is calculated to be higher. It's well thought out.
So, mages like Yanya can only heal minor injuries. This was discovered when trying to heal Yanya's previous injury. It was good to find out during training. If it had been discovered during a real battle, it would have caused panic.
"Mi-sama, are you tired?"
Yanya pokes my cheek and asks with a gentle smile, while I'm thinking about the job system.
"No, I'm still okay! I'm in third grade now, after all."
I smile, bend my arm, and give a thumbs up. Yanya laughs happily at the cute scene, and the others look at me with a smile.
"I think I can fight 35 more times!"
"That's a very specific number, isn't it?"
Yanya tilts her head in curiosity, but proficiency is based on the number of battles, not the number of enemies. Defeating a group counts as one battle, and defeating a single enemy also counts as one battle. I want to reach proficiency level 5, so I need 35 more battles.
"Also, Mi-sama, why do you fight in such a strange way?"
"Strange?"
What do you mean? I kind of understand, but...
"You leave after defeating one enemy. You also stop the 'Magic Armor,' and if you fool around, the instructor will scold you."
Yanya whispers in my ear, and her breath tickles.
"Yeah, I'm practicing to keep the 'Magic Armor' activated. I've explained it to the instructor."
"Ah, I see. Mi-sama can't activate the 'Magic Armor' unless you're serious, and you can't be serious unless there's a monster nearby."
"That's right. So, practice is the only way!"
I puff out my cheeks, but it's a lie.
When the enemy's hate is directed at other adventurers, the battle ends. If you defeat even one monster during this time, it counts toward your proficiency. It's a cheat that can only be done in the real world.
If three monsters appear, I want them to be counted as three separate battles. It's bad for the escorting adventurers, but I want to be efficient. Not many monsters appear anyway.
I realized this cheat when, during a battle, the enemy ran away because the escorting adventurer was targeted, and the battle ended. So, I was able to easily reach proficiency level 3.
In reality, since Yanya and I are separated from the enemy, we can only fight about three times an hour. If I hadn't discovered this cheat, it would have been impossible to fight 15 times.
"I'll fight a lot and thank the escorting adventurers!"
The materials from the monsters, such as magic stones and drops, can be sold for money. The materials here are cheap, but it's a small token of appreciation. I'm tagging along with Yanya to the dungeon, so I plan to give everything as a thank you.
I won't give the contents of my item box, though.
It's a mysterious system. When you defeat an enemy, you can collect magic stones and materials from the corpse. But the same items are automatically added to my item box. So, do I get double the drops? Well, it seems that only the predetermined drops are added to the item box.
When I casually asked about the item box, it seems that no one can use it. Of course, creating a subspace is a high-level magic, and there are no such magical items.
So, I'm a secret, secret, secret Miu. The item box is one of my top secrets.
The equipment is not stored in a subspace and doesn't appear with a flash of light. This is because the scenes where female characters change clothes in the dressing room are important. They chose to have the female characters talk endlessly in their underwear rather than have a quick transformation scene.
I think the author of "Magical Night" really thought about how to gain popularity.
"We'll end the break in 30 minutes and start fighting for about three hours afterward."
"Okay."
"Understood."
The instructor claps her hands, and we prepare to fight in the afternoon.
And when my proficiency reached level 5, it appeared.
