The next night.
"Good night, Dad, Mom!"
It was a sleepy greeting to her parents who were relaxing in the living room. They smiled and returned the good night, which made her feel inexplicably happy. Having a family to greet her back was a dream come true.
"Yeah, good night."
"Hey, Mii-chan? I've noticed dog hair on your pajamas lately. Any idea why?"
Her mother had a slightly mischievous look, but Mii-chan just shrugged.
"Probably a puppy from the neighborhood! Good night!"
It was already 9 PM. She cheerfully said good night and returned to her room. Slipping into bed, she then moved to her 'My Room.' Incidentally, the last place where 'My Room' was opened serves as the gateway, so party members like Odin and Frigg can also come and go from the last location where 'My Room' was opened.
In 'My Room,' the old man was still drinking wine and tapping away at his terminal. Frigg, on the other hand, was sitting on the sofa, taking out the jewels she had stored in the subspace storage and polishing them with a blissful expression. Her movements were those of a seasoned professional, making her seem like a master jeweler.
Geri and Freki, in their puppy forms, happily wagged their tails and pounced in. Mii-chan decided to take them for a walk next time. She petted their tummies as they rolled over, and her cute face lit up with satisfaction. Dogs are so adorable. She should erase the memory of them eating people, though.
"Oh, you're here? You're quite late."
"Good evening, Frigg. I can only come to 'My Room' at night when I go to sleep. If I disappear, my parents will worry."
Frigg, who had noticed me, called out. The old man ignored me completely, only speaking when necessary.
"Are you polishing the jewels?"
"Yes, they need to be polished."
"The subspace storage doesn't get dirty or deteriorate, you know?"
"It's the sentiment of someone who loves precious metals. Even if they don't deteriorate, I want to take care of them."
Frigg shrugged and delivered a plausible line. While that was true, there was another purpose, right?
"I'll keep track of all the items, so you can't steal them."
"You should be a bit more relaxed in life."
"I wouldn't manage the items if you ate the precious metals, Frigg."
"...Fine. I'll put back the precious metals I accidentally stored in my item box."
Reluctantly, Frigg took out the precious metals from her item box and stored them in the subspace storage. It was a good thing I had a ledger. I noticed this time that the precious metals I had stored in the subspace storage were missing. Frigg was a greedy goddess, trying to steal everything.
Here's Frigg's status:
Frigg
Level 41
Main: Psionic IV: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Secondary: Thief IV: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Sub: Hunter IV: ☆☆☆☆
HP: 209
MP: 321
Strength: 117
Vitality: 165
Agility: 228
Magic: 326
Luck: 85
Unique Skills: 100% increase when equipped with a gun, 100% increase when equipped with a dagger, 50% increase when equipped with a bow, 100% increase in magic success rate, Eagle Transformation, Resistance to all magic except Universal, Prophecy (absolute dodge next turn), Sage Magic, Lockpicking IV, Steal IV, Hide IV, Aim IV, Detect Presence IV
Skills: Master of Thievery, Gun Mastery IV, Dagger Mastery IV, Hunter Mastery IV, Bow Mastery IV, Support Magic V
'Psionic' is one of the basic classes. A magic user skilled in support magic. The 100% increase in magic success rate is often misunderstood; it only doubles the original success rate. At the same level, it would only increase a 5% chance to 10%.
While support magic can include attack spells, it's not as strong as a main class. Also, for some reason, Frigg's secondary job is unlocked even though it's not at level 50.
The reason for this is known. According to the guide, Frigg is a paid character but not a 'composite job.' I agree with this.
In essence, she's a beginner-friendly character for new players. While the thief class is weak, it has many non-MP-consuming combat skills that are useful in minor battles. In boss fights, her support magic is helpful, especially 'Steal IV.' When the game was released, I was already close to clearing the secret dungeon and had an abundance of items, so it was useless for me.
Additionally, 'Psionics' inexplicably uses guns as their primary weapon. Guns and bows require making ammunition one by one, which is very troublesome. While you can make 99 at once, the materials are often scarce, so you usually make them one by one.
Guns, of course, refer to magic guns. They have a combined attack power of the gun and bullet, independent of the character's strength. Rare bullets are very powerful, but gathering materials is difficult. The cost is so high that you can't use them in regular battles, but they are useful in boss fights.
It's no wonder guns aren't popular. A level 20 gun bullet costs nearly 1 million yen in materials, and a level 30 bullet costs 3 million yen. This is in a game with an alchemist's shop. In reality, there are no alchemist's shops, so... yeah, guns aren't popular.
They're not even useful for self-defense. After all, one shot won't take down an opponent. You have to keep firing. In reality, it would probably involve gradually breaking through magical barriers. Killing a level 20 monster would cost over 10 million yen in bullets. Considering the cost of the gun itself, you'd need at least 100 million yen. Yeah, if the military used them, the country would go bankrupt.
However, there are a few magical weapons equipped with magic guns. This is likely for emergencies. While the military can't use them, they are deployed for personal use or VIP protection. They've appeared in novels and games as well, often as the protagonist's trump card.
Still, they're not practical for daily use. Psionics, who specialize in guns, are naturally magic-only. Frigg can use daggers, so that's not a problem.
"The downside is that you can only be active at night."
"Actually, I can't go out in public. I'm only 9 years old. Plus, my parents would worry."
Continuing in 'Mii-chan mode,' I crossed my hands to indicate no face reveal. I don't want to be a cause of worry for my parents or a target for big organizations.
"Hmm... Caring about your parents is unusual. Or is this normal?"
Frigg looked at me with a surprised expression. Her family seems to have issues, but mine is different.
"My parents get along well. I don't want to be the cause of family breakdown. Peace is the most important thing in a family!"
Miyu puffed out her chest and smiled proudly. Her innocent and cute appearance was heartwarming.
Frigg, too, was soothed by Miyu's cuteness and smiled. As a goddess, her smile was so charming it could be monetized. The beautiful woman then crossed her legs and delivered her plan with a seductive smile.
"Well, I plan to follow your wishes. First, we need to increase our funds."
Frigg raised her index finger and took out a bowl and dice. What's this?
"You know about my power, right?"
"Yeah, Prophecy?"
It's a skill that, when used, completely dodges one physical or magical attack from the enemy in the next turn. It's used after casting a support magic spell that draws hate. The hate spell lasts for 10 turns, so it can be used as a shield four times.
The downside is that psionics aren't front-line fighters, so they're not suitable as tanks. I always wondered why they had such a skill in the game. Maybe it was forced to fit the mythology, but is there more to it?
"Let's play a game of dice."
"Mmm, I'm not betting."
It won't be a 45 combination, and I'm confident I can win.
"Alright, I'll go first."
"Sure, go ahead. 'Prophecy.'"
Before I could put the dice in the bowl, Frigg used 'Prophecy' with a mischievous smile. What? For real? I was surprised by how the effect would play out, but the dice rolled with a pleasant sound and landed on 6.
"This is lucky. The higher the opponent's roll, the luckier it is."
Frigg took the dice and threw them into the bowl. They rolled with a pleasant sound.
'111'
"Are you kidding me? That's cheating!"
I was expecting it but still surprised. 'Prophecy' can indeed dodge any phenomenon once. But can it be used like this?
I jumped up from the sofa and stared at Frigg. She had anticipated my reaction and smiled thinly.
"Yes, 'Prophecy' dodges. My defeat, once. This means, if used, we can win at stock investments and forex. After all, it's either up or down."
"For horse racing, it's impossible because there are multiple opponents. For stocks, it's not about competing with other investors but the stock price itself. So, if you never sell, it will keep going up?"
"It's not that omnipotent. The stock will be sold before it loses, based on my knowledge. You can't buy stocks that are expected to lose from the start. I'd say the effect lasts about a day."
"Will it still be discreet? If we gain a fortune in a short time, won't we attract attention?"
I put my small hand to my chin and considered the risks. Someone will always notice such things. It would be suspicious, especially in a world with magic. If they suspect cheating magic, it's understandable.
"Of course, I've considered that. I'll have Odin create multiple identities. This is not just for building an organization but also to avoid drawing attention while making money."
I see. Even if we gain a fortune collectively, multiple identities will keep us from standing out. Frigg is clever.
"Then, the people who make the money will set up multiple dummy companies and operate them. They'll buy and sell magic tools from hermits, support weak adventurers, and provide small jobs to orphans, among other things."
"Ah, I see. Gradually increase transactions and expand networks to form a large organization. Each company is small, but together they can grow."
"The advantage is that setting up proxies won't seem suspicious. Small companies often have shady backgrounds, so they're rarely investigated. We'll control the hired CEOs from behind. We don't need to be in the spotlight. I'll occasionally show up to create a mysterious atmosphere. Of course, we'll form corporations, and we'll secretly acquire most of the shares."
It's like growing a forest from individual trees. The advantage is that it's less likely to draw attention, and they can support each other in emergencies. It's a brilliant plan.
This is only possible in a modern world with widespread internet, where people can easily communicate. Starting small is also good. The old man's recommendation is well-founded. Frigg is a genius.
"Amazing, Frigg! This way, we can help my parents a little. It's a great plan!"
"Hehe. This is the power of love and abundance. Shall we start our covert operations?"
"Please! Let's build a mob organization!"
Miyu praised Frigg with sparkling eyes, and the goddess smiled seductively, running her fingers through her golden hair.
"Understood. I'll ask Munin to select the people, Odin?"
"Munin is available, but you'll need to pay the fee. I have too many things I want to buy."
Frigg and Odin had a business-like conversation, and Miyu was excited.
After all, even if I'm small, it's a step forward. I'll help in any way I can.
There's a debut party the day after tomorrow, so I can't make any plans for that day.
In the original story, many people became criminals due to financial troubles and died, leaving their children behind. We can prevent that. Hahaha, I'll help the mob people.
My goal is to protect my family and help the mob. I'm counting on you, Frigg.
"Let's start by finding suitable jobs."
The beautiful goddess confidently ran her fingers through her long golden hair and gave a casual, seductive smile. It's only been two days, but I'm counting on you, genius goddess.
