Chapter 6

The Netherworld, the place where souls reside after death, is where those who do not ascend to the Heavenly Realm, descend to Hell, or enter the cycle of rebirth mostly live. However, there is a significant problem with entering the Netherworld.
The Spirit World, much smaller than Hell and the Netherworld, is located at the boundary between the two. It is filled with chaotic and mindless monsters born from the convergence of murky yin energy. Though they are weak in combat, they are numerous and constantly attack passing spirits. (There is very little information about the Netherworld and Hell in Eastern lore, o(╯□╰)o, so I had to add some details to enrich the story. If anyone has relevant information, please share it.)
"Look, these are the lowest-level monsters in the Spirit World, the Yin Demons," Koizumi said, pointing to a sea of creatures at the base of a small hill.
The demons resembled human forms but were entirely blue and mostly rotten. For some reason, a word suddenly popped into Wu Feng's mind.
"Zombies?"
"What are those?" Koizumi asked, puzzled.
"Um, I'm not sure, but I have a vague memory of them. They seem to be some kind of cute and lovable creatures," Wu Feng replied, a bit confused, (he was suffering from amnesia).
Koizumi's expression changed. "Cute and lovable? These Yin Demons? Your sense of aesthetics?"
"Um, probably not."
"Anyway, these Yin Demons are the lowest-level monsters in the Spirit World. Even an ordinary person has a chance to defeat one in a one-on-one fight. Their main feature is that they always appear in large groups, usually in the thousands."
Koizumi clearly looked down on the Yin Demons.
"Wait here for a moment," Koizumi instructed Wu Feng, then turned and walked toward the demons.
The Yin Demons seemed to sense the approach of a foreign entity and turned to face their direction.
The gaze of thousands of Yin Demons made Wu Feng's heart tighten. He couldn't help but worry about Koizumi, considering the sheer number of demons and his uncertainty about her strength.
The sound of wooden sandals echoed as Koizumi approached the Yin Demons. Without any energy fluctuations, she simply swung her giant scythe, and the dozen or so Yin Demons that approached her were instantly cut in half, turning into a mist of yin energy that disappeared into the air.
It took a while for the surrounding Yin Demons to react. They surged forward in a chaotic manner, howling and screaming, their rotten hands reaching out for Koizumi.
As Koizumi had said, these were the lowest-level Yin Demons, only slightly stronger than ordinary humans. Each swing of her nearly two-meter-long scythe left a wide swath of empty space around her. Even when a few Yin Demons managed to get close, the wind generated by her swinging scythe would blow them back to their original form. In just one minute, the number of Yin Demons was reduced by more than half, leaving only about a thousand.
After another swing of her scythe, Koizumi's expression turned serious. She stomped her right foot and leaped into the air. A beautiful purple text appeared behind her, forming a circular array about a meter tall. In the next moment, Koizumi disappeared among the Yin Demons.
The Yin Demons, having lost their target, calmed down and wandered aimlessly.
Wu Feng quickly searched for Koizumi's whereabouts. If he couldn't find her, his small frame would surely be eaten by the Yin Demons. Chicken flavor, crispy and crunchy!
"Bad luck, a nasty guy is coming..." A delicate hand touched Wu Feng's shoulder, making him shudder. He relaxed slightly when he heard her voice.
"Koizumi, you almost scared me to death."
"Hmph, if you're going to lecture me, I have to teach you a lesson."
"?"
"No, I mean a nasty monster is coming," Koizumi said, pointing to the ground beneath the Yin Demons.
Before Wu Feng could ask, the ground beneath the Yin Demons began to tremble violently. Nearly a hundred three-meter-long black spikes burst out of the ground, each one hitting a Yin Demon. Unlike when Koizumi killed them, the Yin Demons hit by the spikes were sucked into them.
The ground at the center of the Yin Demons also cracked open, and a giant black monster with eight eyes crawled out from beneath. The nearly a hundred black spikes were all its legs.
"The Netherworld Spider, one of the higher-level monsters in the Spirit World. It feeds on low-level monsters in the Spirit World, and if it sees passing spirits, it won't let them go. Compared to the senseless Yin Demons, the Netherworld Spider's perception is off the charts. After it finishes eating those Yin Demons, it will be our turn," Koizumi said calmly, pointing at the giant spider.
"Koizumi, are you sure? If it's too much, we can go back to Hell and try again later," Wu Feng said, clearly worried.
"You underestimate me. Even the highest-level Spirit World monster is nothing to me," Koizumi said confidently, thinking to herself that she wouldn't torment him on the rest of the journey because of his concern.
"Anyway, the Netherworld Spider has a very strong recovery ability, so I need to be a bit more serious."
In a short time, the thousand or so Yin Demons were all eaten by the Netherworld Spider. Its eight eyes fixed on Koizumi, and the pressure from those eyes felt far greater than that of the thousands of Yin Demons.
The hundred legs moved in unison, and the Netherworld Spider approached at an astonishing speed.
A purple text array appeared behind Koizumi again, and she vanished from Wu Feng's sight. The purple text array appeared in front of the Netherworld Spider, and Koizumi reappeared, swinging her giant scythe in a swift arc. The spider's legs, which resembled spears, were cut in half like tofu.
The force of the swing created a white blade of light that continued to strike the Netherworld Spider's body, easily shattering its black hard shell and slicing into its flesh. Moments later, the blade of light emerged from the other side of the spider's body, and green blood gushed out, turning the ground green.
A single ordinary strike had shattered the seemingly solid black shell and pierced through the hundred-meter-long body. The overwhelming power left Wu Feng in awe.
The injured Netherworld Spider seemed to ignore its wounds and severed legs, roaring as more spikes shot out from different directions, blocking Koizumi's escape routes.
At the same time, the wounds and severed legs generated a suction force, drawing in the surrounding yin energy and regenerating, joining the attack.
Facing dozens of black spikes, Koizumi's expression became more serious. The purple text array appeared behind her again, and she teleported to the top of the Netherworld Spider, holding her scythe ready.
The scythe seemed even larger now, and with a single strike, it hit the Netherworld Spider's body vertically.
"Interdimensional Gap"
A low chant reached Wu Feng's ears. A purple light pillar rose from the ground around Koizumi, extending infinitely as if to pierce the heavens and earth.
In the light pillar, the Netherworld Spider's agonized roar echoed as its body began to disintegrate under the purple light. The hundred-meter-long body lasted less than half a minute before it was completely destroyed.
The light pillar gradually faded, leaving a beautiful scene of reverse light rain.
As Wu Feng was immersed in the beauty before him, Koizumi returned to his side and sighed.
"That's why I don't like Netherworld Spiders. Although they are only high-level Spirit World monsters, their recovery ability, supported by the endless yin energy in the Spirit World, is comparable to the highest-level Spirit World monsters. If you don't eliminate them in one strike, they will immediately regenerate."
But you did eliminate it in one strike... Wu Feng thought to himself.
