Chapter 96

After assigning tasks to Dahu and Xiaohui, Cai Shu also packed her luggage, and then Wen Long and Cai Shu set off again.

This time, when they returned to Millard Village, Wen Long noticed that the way people looked at him and Cai Shu had clearly changed. Their eyes were filled with admiration, as if they were looking at idols in the spotlight.

"It must be because the news of us completing the Star Dragon investigation has spread. After all, Millard Village isn't that big, and it only takes a day for news to spread throughout the village, meow." Wen Long thought.

The strongest hunter in Millard Village was only a low-rank two-star hunter, so completing a task that even the dispatched hunters from the Hunter's Guild couldn't complete naturally made them the talk of the town.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before someone approached and struck up a conversation with Cai Shu.

"Excuse me, are you the hunter who completed the investigation and even obtained the Star Dragon's scales?" asked a young hunter.

"Ah, yes, that's us," Cai Shu replied.

"That's simply amazing. The village hasn't had a hunter as skilled as you in a long time, and you're also so beautiful. I wonder if you could be my girlfriend?"

"Sorry..." Cai Shu's face turned red when the young man suddenly asked her to be his girlfriend, and she quickly sped up to get away from him.

"Hey, don't go..."

Just as the young man was about to continue pestering Cai Shu, a female hunter with a bow and arrow walked over, pushed the young man aside, and stood in front of Cai Shu. The female hunter introduced herself.

"My name is Rita. Are you interested in forming a hunting team with me? If we work together, we can hunt any monster!"

Before the female hunter with the bow and arrow could finish speaking, someone nearby said, "Who would want to team up with you? You're only a mid-rank one-star hunter. What qualifications do you have to team up with someone who completed the Star Dragon investigation?"

Hearing this, the female hunter's face turned red, and she turned to see that it was the young man she had just pushed aside.

"Say that again? With your bear-like appearance, you think someone would want you as a boyfriend? You should look in a mirror; no one would want you!"

"Hah, who can say about fate? Maybe she thinks I'm handsome..."

"Pah!"

...

Taking advantage of the argument between the two, Cai Shu quickly broke free from their纠缠, sped up, and headed toward the Hunter's Guild office in Millard Village. However, more people soon gathered around, including those who just wanted to chat, those who wanted to form a hunting team with Cai Shu, those who wanted her autograph, and those who hoped she could share some tips on becoming a successful hunter...

"Move, move, move! Don't block the way, or I'll get angry, meow!"

Seeing the crowd gathering, Wen Long shouted and helped Cai Shu push through the crowd, allowing her to reach the Hunter's Guild office smoothly.

"Phew... Have these people never seen a skilled hunter before? They're acting like fans chasing a celebrity... Although I admit I am quite charming, meow." Wen Long complained. The people who gathered around wanted to rush into the Hunter's Guild office, but the security at the entrance stopped them, citing the need to maintain order.

As soon as they entered, Sasha, who had been standing behind the counter, came over. "You've really become quite popular. And from the look on your faces, you must have completed your promotion task, right?"

"Of course we completed the promotion task! With me around, how could we not complete it, meow!" Wen Long answered before Cai Shu could respond.

Wen Long then placed a large cloth bag on the counter. As the bag was opened, Sasha saw the head of a large monster bird.

"Um... Confirmed, it's a large monster bird," Sasha said to Cai Shu. "Congratulations, from now on, you are a two-star hunter! You are the fastest to go from a beginner to a two-star hunter since the establishment of the Hunter's Guild. I'll get your new badge right away!"

Soon, a small, exquisite wooden box was handed to Cai Shu. On the lid of the box, two stars were clearly visible. Cai Shu opened the box to reveal a badge with one large and one small star, the larger one being gold and the smaller one being bronze.

"This is the badge for a low-rank two-star hunter. Please keep it. We need to take back your previous high-rank one-star hunter badge. Please place your old badge in this wooden box." Sasha placed another wooden box with a single star on the counter.

"Okay, okay." Cai Shu quickly took out her high-rank one-star hunter badge from her pocket and placed it in the wooden box provided by Sasha.

"Alright, the old badge has been returned. Congratulations again on reaching the two-star hunter level. Here is the reward for your task." Sasha handed over a small bag, which Wen Long quickly took. Opening the bag and counting, there were about 100 silver coins.

"You Hunter's Guild is so stingy. Only 100 silver coins for hunting a large monster bird, that's just one gold coin... Oh well, something is better than nothing, meow." Although somewhat dissatisfied, Wen Long put the bag in his pocket.

"There's no choice. The guild's operating costs are high, and your main income as hunters isn't from these task rewards, right?" Sasha explained, a bit embarrassed.

"Well, that's true..." Wen Long shrugged, indicating he didn't really mind. After all, as Sasha said, a hunter's true income mainly comes from selling the materials from their hunts, and for someone like Wen Long, who is skilled in crafting, the gold earned from crafting is even more significant. In comparison, the task rewards are indeed negligible.

"Let's go, woman, meow."

After putting away the silver coins, Wen Long led Cai Shu out of the Hunter's Guild office. Behind him, Sasha's puzzled voice echoed.

"Hey, aren't you going to take on a new task this time?"

"No, I have some other things to do recently, meow!" Wen Long waved his hand and replied without turning back.
