The night was as still as water, and the stars and moon were particularly bright tonight. The headlights of the car cast dazzling beams of light. After dropping Spielberg off at home, the Lincoln continued to drive Ye Wei to the eastern end of Sunset Boulevard in Brentwood.
Watching the Lincoln disappear at the end of the road, the glow of the taillights still visible, Ye Wei suddenly let out a loud shout, “Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!”
As he shouted, he wildly flailed his arms and legs. At this moment, nothing could express his joy better than a loud shout; otherwise, he would have burst with excitement!
“Aaaaahhhh!” Ye Wei was almost rolling on the ground. All the times he had told himself, “Don’t get too excited too soon,” could go to hell. This was the time to be happy, to be joyful!
He was so happy, so elated!!!
Although Hanks hadn't replied yet, with Spielberg's words, “You come to me, and DreamWorks will start a project for you,” the competition was already won! What kind of person was that old man? A man of his stature, when he said something like this, he meant it! Not to mention, there was also Lucas!
Ha, a $3 million budget! It was enough to shoot the "Little Miss Sunshine" script into a movie! Ye Wei's movie!
Willis's team didn't understand the value of the "prodigy," but many others did! He was confident that even with his eyes closed, he could make the $3 million budget pay off!
Making money wasn't the most important thing; the key was that he could finally shoot that damn movie! Finally, he could make his dream come true!
This time, he wouldn't let his dream slip away from his fingers! He would hold on tightly!
“Aaaaahhhh!” Ye Wei shouted again, causing the dogs in the surrounding houses to bark. He shushed them a few times, not wanting to be chased by the dogs. He took out his phone, eager to share his joy. There was too much to share, and he would burst if he didn't!
Flipping through his contacts, he stopped at Lily's name. Wait, wait... He scratched his head. Should he just call her? What a waste of this moment! No, he would go to her house right now!
He sent a text to his parents saying he would be back late and headed to Lily's house. Although he had never been inside, he knew the way from picking her up for dates a few times.
“Is someone hurt? Was there a robbery?” Suddenly, a door on the left side of the street opened, and a cautious middle-aged white man stepped out, holding a baseball bat, looking towards the road.
“Woof, woof!” A large dog, probably a shepherd, was by his side.
“Dad, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” Children's curious voices came from inside the house.
“No, I’m sorry, sir, I was just shouting, I’m too happy!” Ye Wei apologized, laughing. “You can’t imagine what good news I have. Thank God, thank myself! Have a good day, goodbye!”
He softly chuckled, spreading his arms as if flying, and ran northward.
If life were a movie, the background music at this moment would be joyful and uplifting. Thinking of this, Ye Wei started singing "It's My Life":
“This is my life! Do it now or never, I don’t want to live forever, I just want to live each day! My heart is like a car speeding down an open highway—”
Running and singing, the moonlight witnessed this impromptu concert. Though not as melodious as professional singers, it was infectious, touching everything and everyone!
Listen, even the dogs were harmonizing! Look, the headlights of passing cars were illuminating the stage! Feel, every cell in your body was vibrating!
In less than half an hour, Ye Wei arrived at the small street outside Lily's house. The music stopped, and he panted slightly, his gaze passing over the wide lawn garden to the classical and luxurious two-story white house, where lights were still on. Of course, it was only 10 PM.
He called her on his phone, and when she answered, he laughed, “Lily, come out, I’m outside your house!”
“What? You’re here?”
“Yes, come out quickly, come out quickly, ha-ha! I want to see you!”
“Okay, but wait a moment!”
On the other side, in Lily's bedroom, she had just finished her homework and was about to watch a talk show when Ye Wei's sudden visit surprised her. She quickly changed from her pajamas into a casual, nice outfit, went to the vanity, and quickly applied some makeup before rushing out.
Where had Wei been all day? He had taken a leave from school and barely replied to her texts, acting mysteriously all day.
“Lily, where are you going?” As she rushed down the stairs, her mother came over, puzzled.
“Just outside, Wei is here, don’t worry!” Lily didn’t stop, responding as she ran out like in a race.
“This isn’t good...” Taverman glared, dissatisfied. So late, and he’s coming to a girl’s house? What will happen when he can drive? What a bad boy!
Outside the house, under the streetlights, Lily saw Ye Wei standing at the far end of the lawn, waving his arms exaggeratedly, his face full of excitement. She couldn’t help but smile and ran over, “What’s wrong?”
“Lily, Lily, Lily, Lily!” Ye Wei waved, calling out. As she approached, he gave her a bear hug, swinging and jumping, laughing uncontrollably, unable to form a complete sentence: “Hahaha... Everything has changed today! Do you know where I went today? Everything has changed!”
“Be more specific?” Lily smiled, confused. “What changed?”
“Everything! I can’t, I can’t... I’m too happy! Oh my God, I can’t explain it clearly, damn it, ha-ha!”
Ye Wei was almost crying with laughter, and Lily scolded him, “You fool, are you drunk? Did you drink?”
He let her go, laughing and waving his hands, struggling to control his emotions: “I’m trying to tell you, listen... The 'Little Miss Sunshine' project has a turn! Tom Hanks contacted me a few days ago, and he’s interested! Ha-ha, and today... Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, they admire me! They want to invest in me!
Spielberg even said DreamWorks could give me a $3 million budget project, any genre I choose! Oh, Lily, I’m going to make a movie!”
Lily was shocked, stunned, and disbelieving, blinking her eyes. His disordered speech and crazy appearance made her uncertain: “Are you serious? Or... what’s going on?”
“This is real, baby, this is real!!” Ye Wei laughed and shouted, pulling out a stack of business cards from his pocket and handing her the top two. “Look, what are their names? Master Yoda! Jaws!”
Lily took them, her eyes widening, looking at him, then at the cards, exclaiming, “You’re... serious!?”
“Serious!! Is this clear enough? This project, either Hanks invests, or if not, Spielberg will, and if not, Lucas will. Baby, I don’t want to say it, but really, who cares about Bruce Willis now, to hell with him!”
Ye Wei raised his fists, looking up at the stars, “We found the investment! I’m the producer and director!! The dream is coming true again!!”
“Oh my God...” Lily gasped, her face turning red, full of disbelief and shock, “What happened, Wei? What did you do? What happened? When did Hanks contact you? Why didn’t you tell us?”
“Sorry, I didn’t want to get your hopes up, so I kept it a secret...”
“You bastard, you bad guy!!” Lily suddenly punched his chest and kicked him, her raised eyebrows making her smile even brighter. “How could you do this? So sudden, I can’t even react! What’s going on, God! I hate you!!”
Ye Wei suddenly hugged her and kissed her.
Lily initially made a few muffled sounds but soon kissed back passionately, wrapping her arms around his neck and biting his lips.
The bright moon, stars, and streetlights illuminated this young couple.
Taverman, watching from inside the house, sighed and shook his head, his daughter was growing up, having her own world...
The two were kissing passionately when Ye Wei’s phone vibrated with an incoming call. He had to push Lily away, “I have a call, it might be...!”
Taking out his phone, he was instantly excited, “Hanks! It’s Hanks! Spielberg must have told him, and he’s made a decision.”
Lily didn’t quite understand, wiping her lips, “What?”
“Who will be the investor! Hanks or Spielberg? Let Forrest choose!” Ye Wei said, answering the call, laughing excitedly, “Hi, Tom.”
Hanks’ deep voice came from the other end, “Wei, Steven called me, ha-ha, his evaluation of you is ‘that kid is a genius, if you don’t invest, I will.’ Well done, well done! Since Steven says so, I’m reassured, Wei, I’ll invest in you! Propaganda will provide a $3 million production budget, and you can find more funds if you can.”
“Thank you!!! That’s great, thank you!” Ye Wei shouted, hugging Lily’s shoulders, like scoring the winning goal in the final minute, he succeeded! He won!
He said excitedly, “Tom, I won’t let you down, absolutely not! This is amazing! Ha-ha-ha!”
“Yeah, we’ll arrange a meeting next week to discuss the specific plans,” Hanks laughed, “But it’s settled, you can be happy.”
“Yes, ah-ah-ah! I know, I’m almost going crazy with joy, how lucky I am!”
“This is the result of your hard work, not just luck. Wei, that’s it for now, I can see you want to share your joy with many people.”
“Tom, has anyone ever told you how considerate you are? Goodbye, see you next week!”
As soon as the call ended, Lily exclaimed, “Tom Hanks agreed to invest in you?” He hugged her tighter, looking triumphant, “Jane, that thing called a miracle, I kicked it, I smashed it, but it just wouldn’t leave me alone, so I had to accept it!”
“Wow!!!” Lily shouted, her eyes blazing, “That’s right, it’s a miracle!”
Without saying more, they kissed again, continuing the interrupted kiss, a sweet, passionate, joyful, trembling kiss.
Until they were breathless, feeling like they were about to die, they finally separated.
“Ha-ha-ha!”
“Am I the first to know?” Lily, with her disheveled hair, asked, panting.
“Yes, the first! Even my family doesn’t know yet.” Ye Wei imagined something, getting happier the more he thought about it, “I can’t imagine how happy they’ll be, and everyone else! And those who looked down on us... No, they don’t matter, they can only watch. This time, we really jumped over it!”
“Ha-ha! Who can say otherwise, a perfect jump!”
After laughing and talking for a while, though reluctant, Ye Wei was anxious to get home, “Lily, I’ll go home now, I’ll call you later!”
“Okay.” Lily nodded.
Ye Wei turned and left, waving to her after a few steps. The joy in the air was palpable, even as he got farther away. Gradually, he ran, singing, “This is my life! Do it now or never...!”
Lily laughed, her eyes curved, watching until he was out of sight, still in a daze, as if she had just had a beautiful dream.
Wei just came, Hanks is going to invest, right?
She walked back home, lost in thought, not even noticing her mother at the door, and went straight upstairs, muttering to herself, “Unbelievable, unbelievable...”
